    • @joshuabruce9599
      @joshuabruce9599 4 роки тому +87

i read somewhere that some people argue that we can't be in a simulation on account of how much processing power would be needed to accurately model and atom and other subatomic particles all at the same time. To then construct the universe out of these atoms as building blocks would, apparently take such an impossible amount of processing power that the computer running the simulation would have to be practically as big as the universe to possess the speeds and storage required to house it.
I am by no means an expert but it's just something i heard, so don't quote me on it

@Ethan Sturm That begs the question of what kind of crime would be 'commitable' in the first place. A simulation like so is bound by the rules of the system - and since the video mentioned that plots would be 'scriptable' individually, one would assume that you can't literally commit crimes as they are in real life (nor really have reasons to do so in most instances), but rather only simply 'break rules' of some sort (such as the mentioned mic spamming).

It's not just that but people don't have to be smart to learn how to be good, I do believe if we lived in a vr server it should be divided 50/50 good people and bad people by nature, chaos would rule where the bad ones and peace where the good ones. This would evict the biggest problems for both, anyone can have a made place or live in someone's else obviously. Yet I question how lonely could it get if people first don't understand to respect each other and everyone goes in their own way, love would be lost and any other feeling with somebody else. 😓

This is a form of government. It's the style of government that Athens employed. It can work well in relatively small-scale democracies but it proves less and less effective as more and more people become citexens and the society gets more complex. Most people have jobs that they do day-to-day and have enough to worry about without having to worry about the governing of his/her country. From this issue, the necessity of representatives who took the job of governance and politics on as a full-time job arose.
In summary, small scale direct governance can work in smaller societies but larger and more complex societies are unable to function as effectively with direct democracy.

    • @ACEYGAMES

The problem with that government is that most people don't want to put enough effort into learning all the legal and political information required to make their votes properly informed. This is kinda why democracy has political parties so people can vote towards someone who they think will have put all that effort in and make make the right calls/choices.

From my experience, a (non hereditary) absolute monarchy is the best form of government for a virtual society. The ruler chooses a council that can advise them and that they can delegate tasks to. The ruler chooses their "heir" by themselves. Should a ruler die before choosing an heir, the council will choose one.
Since new rulers are chosen based on their skills and experience instead of their bloodline, they're almost always good rulers.
The problem with democracy is that it creates animosity within the society. The community will divide between a conservative and a progressive faction. People will dislike eachother for supporting the other faction, but more importantly, they will never fully support the government if the other faction runs it.
If instead the people don't get any influence in how the society is run and they have a good ruler, they will be much less likely to pay much attention to the decisions that are being made. An ignorant population is a happy population.

Although I do agree with the statement at the end talking about addiction, it is only true to a certain point. For me I do have a screen addiction, but it is simply out of boredom or not knowing what else to do. Even if people are able to deal with the pain they will still seek an outlet for their boredom. I say this to because i do not deal with this pain in fact I'm the happiest person i have ever seen, just simply looking for ways to pass time, and games or shows is a fun way to do it, without really having to put much thought into it. So in the end regardless of peoples state of mind they will continue to have this addiction, it might not be an obsession but they will spend more hours then they should playing it, because it is a simple way to keep your self entertained that takes little to no thought to come up with and can be done in your home.

The last Survivor we sort of do. We know that with the limits of our knowledge and current tech that it is 100% impossible to make something that can actually feel anything whether it be emotionally or physically, we can only make machines that are capable of of being sent certain ‘triggers’ though speech and tone of voice as well as physical contact or harm that would result in messages being sent around the body so it could convey a proper reaction. This is because it’s not possible to reproduce any organic properties with technology unless it’s cloning of another organism which is something a simulation couldn’t be able to do.

None, I think it would be interesting to see if we can come up with a type of government never heard of before.
While it does seem nonsensical and stupid, the existing ones were once nonexistent. So it's highly probable a new one could arise. Maybe it could be better, maybe it would be worse.

I think in a digital setting with little to no legitimate risk of dying unless otherwise implemented... Say, somewhat like Ready Player One, where the players drop their entire inventory on death, this would be the perfect chance to find somewhere that everyone is free to believe or feel what they want. That is to say, I'd want such a place to be anarchic. It may not work in the real world since there are obvious risks to it, but I think attempting an anarchic society in the metaverse would prove quite interesting.

Carry this over to a virtual society and you will encounter issues like hacking and DDoSing, so you will need a strict government to control a population that lacks empathy with itself.

I think this is “the earth is the centre of the universe” all over again. If you think about it, for us back then it seemed ‘logical’ that we were the centre of the universe. Then we just started finding out how big and complex the universe really is and how stupid and selfish that idea was.
We keep making up stories because we’re desperate to find meaning in something that could easily just “be”, and be meaningless because it just is, no reason, that’s just existence. Why can’t people just accept that we’re literally nothing but a meaningless speck in the scale of things? The universe doesn’t care what we think of it or whether we even observe it or not, it just “is” and has been way before we existed, and will continue to be long after we’re gone. I’m not saying “don’t be curious”, just appreciate the fact that you’re alive now and that whether this is a simulation or everything is meaningless, life can be fucking beautiful if we all contribute to making it so. Get your shit together and then go help other people. Stop wasting your time, it is literally the most precious thing you have. And that’s what matters the most.

Exactly, also in my religion class we were speaking about our beliefs and I was asked and I said I was Athiest. My teacher asks me what happens after death. I say that your body stops working and over years your body rots. Someone in my class said "I don't want my body to rot". Why would you be worried about your body after death, it happens to everyone and tbh I wouldn't care if someone spray painted a dick on my chest after death because I'm dead, I can't be sad when I'm dead. I can't just wake up from the dead and be like "Hey, that's very disrespectful of you, you little shit. I'm telling your mom!" Yeah not happening, there's many other thing you could worry about, or just not worry at all and be a Stoic or something. Enjoy life and stop worrying about what happens after your death.

Minimal to none at all as long as there was enough community fragmentation options.
The Wild West internet was my favorite time during the internet. It was the least safe time, but it taught you the hardest lessons about life, such as dealing with differing opinions, giving you perspective on how apathetic people can be to your plights so you learn to deal with them on your own pragmatically, and learning to curate your own experience instead of letting other people curate your experience for you.

if there were going to be a government, that would mean that it would be public for everyone to join. VR would be available for all people on earth, and while the issues with server hosting would be really significant, there would be a way worse problem than that. if the connection with VR would be everyone on earth, the reality on earth would still be more dominant.
in a way, let's say someone became president that VR world, well it would be easy just to kill that man IRL, or hack pass the securities to get by and change its status back to a civilian.
I don't think there should be a government in VR, instead, it makes it a more expanding place for everyone to be their own leader.

I want to point out some things that I believe would differ of how you imagine it, take it as "constructive criticism" (or just a silly rant it's whatever)
1-The districts, low, medium and high.
This is stupid. If this really is a virtual world where you can create what you imagine, why would there be districts that are intentionally worse than others, there are infinite resources, there is no reason to make worse places under a lower rent, that would just be scummy.
2- The chaos outside the cities
The problem that I have with this one, is the depiction of it, it goes back to how you can create everything you imagine, there's no reason for it to look like a dumpster full of rundown things because again, resources are unlimited. In my opinion, it would look very unpleasant or just plain weird, full of constructions that make no sense to gory and disturbing places full of blood and things that would make you puke, art pieces, maybe with weird and clean cuts between every land plot where someone's ownership ends, and another starts, I also imagine sprinkled here and there places that try to be pleasant little spaces like, cafes or shops to buy assorted items, just literal chaos and incoherent aesthetics clashing with each other.

In a virtual world, the government would have to have lots of freedom, but still moderated to prevent complete chaos. That is all the can be said right away, since we do not have the greatest idea of what a virtual society is. Sure there are games like VRChat... but it is a social based game and does not really require government. Also, people do not act as they would in real life because you can always make another account / username.
