I remember back in the mid 2000s when i had a mildly built holden VY SS...LS1...around 400rwhp. And i got absolutely destroyed by one of these cars haha. And was very confused by what had just transpired! Definitely not just a pulsar with a body kit!
In south africa we have 5 door hatch and 4 door sedans called a sabre and sentra.. old specs have the front as the pulsar and we have a trim level called sti's and gxi's which came with sr20de no turbo which gets upgraded to sr20ve
For those that don't know, the FWD SR20 can be found in the following cars in the USA: (all non-turbo but easily upgradeable) - '91-94 NX2000 (140hp, unsure of years) - '91-94 Sentra SE-R (140hp) - '95-98 200SX SE-R (140hp Sentra coupe basically) - '99 Sentra SE-L (140hp) - '00-01 Sentra SE (145hp) - '91-96 Infiniti G20 (140hp) - '98-02 Infiniti G20 (145hp)
We also got the GTi-R in Australia as well. I never owned one (I’d still love to have one some time), but I did own a regular 1995 Pulsar Q. As you said in the video, it was a little uneventful, but those GA16DEs were indestructible. I owned my Pulsar for nearly 5 years, and barely spent a cent on maintaining it, because it was just so damn reliable. I’d say it was the best car I’ve ever owned.
Japan made some really good Nissans in the 90s and 2000s. The Sentra and Maxima platforms were also underrated, well the Maxima was at least in my opinion. I think the downfall is it's a FWD car... but hey that didn't stop everyone from loving the Civics.
I live in Australia and we never got GTiR's here either. I own a privately imported GTiR which I'm currently converting to a track car. It has forged internals, upgraded from the standard T28 to a Garrett GT30 ball bearing turbo, front mount intercooler, full 3" mandrel exhaust from dump pipe, apexi SAF-CII controller, full 6 way adjustable coilovers, custom short-shifter, bosch 440hp fuel pump (unfortunately still running standard injectors and ECU...for now, lol), Turbosmart dual stage boost controller. Ran on the dyno 182KW (244HP) @ 18PSi-from all 4 wheels. I love my baby Godzilla!! Lol.
Used to be big into 90s nissans had my fair share of fwd sr20s. Wanted one of these but figured may be a bit tough to source parts. Still miss my 91 Sentra that had a VE and Jim Wolf cams.
I remember using the GTi-R in the early Gran Turismo games, but it wasn’t even featured in the later titles as much so it isn’t as well known as the Silvia, Z(Fairlady in Japan), Skyline and such...
I had one of these and a mate had a familia GTR when we first got our licences in 2006. The GTIR had way more torque but the BP 1.8 revved hard and ran more boost. Ah those were the days hahaha....
I wanted one so bad when I was younger. It was the ultimate sleeper. Powerful for its day and no one even in Australia had them. Only those really into cars knew about them. I never got to drive one and I'd love too.
When we think of the SR20 we don't think of 240 swaps, we think of the SE-R and NX2000, which both came with the SR20 from the factory in the US. That's the SR20DE, the NA version. The Pulsar GTiR uses the turbocharged version which is the SR20DET.
bro. you gotta keep finding these different cars. cars the country never got. Also i was thinking. if you are able to. you should like go to australia and do like australian cars. like the commodores and like ford falcons and finally drive the BARRA
I have a 1992 GTi-R currently and have a fully built motor, turbo etc etc. It is easily my favourite car that I have owned and bang for buck pretty quick for what it is. There is something special about 90s Nissan cars even though they have their issues and these cars are just getting harder and harder to find. Anybody that has one, don't sell it. Anybody that wants one, buy one soon before the price sky rockets like a lot of other 90s Japanese cars.
We got them in the UK when they was in production. Great car. Bad points, weak gearbox for anything more than stock bhp. Kills drive shaft universal joints if you fit big wheels.
@@VintageTechRepairs you was lucky the 3 that were in my area all suffered gearbox failure, all were running bigger wheels and around 400hp, it kills them. Just do a google search for weak gtir gearbox and there's so many forum posts about it.

There's a guy right down the road from me that has one. I absolutely love this car. It looks cool, it sounds good and it truly is the baby gtr r32. I would love to have one
Is this thing having any gearbox issues? I was really debating with myself on getting a GTIR but after doing some research, the gearboxes are extreamly weak and have problems as soon as you throw even bolt-on power upgrades at it. Is it a stock gearbox? 300-350 hp should have created some detrimental issues with the car. There is some aftermarket gearbox parts for these that can handle upwards of 600hp but they are extreamly expensive and from what I've seen, VERY hard to find.
I've still got mine, a 1990 model which I bought when I was 24 and I'm now 45. It's still low kms but I never had that issue with the gearbox that people raved on about despite basic mods and driving it with about 330hp. Hope that helps
A guy I know, Reg Cook, here in NZ builds 1000hp specced sr20det race engines. Although the GTIRs he built dont make the same numbers they were up in 600-800
I’m sure someone will have said, but the steering wheel isn’t OEM, the centre is, but the flat bottomed wheel itself and the textured leather is aftermarket
Ever since i owned an 89 pulsar and looked into them I wanted a Sunny, and now I can actually buy one in the states so hopefully within a year I’ll get one.
These cars came standard as well with Individual throttle bodies. Basically a throttle body for each cylinder port plus turbo. That's what makes this sr20det different in sound, and also because of the fwd layout and the exhaust headers are different therefore a different sound as well.Gtr's and Gtir's shared similar technologies as well. Its known around in Australia and NewZealand as the "Baby Godzilla".

i just got an r32 last week and the only weird thing about rhd is the turn signal. in the r32 i keep reaching for nothing on the left side of the wheel. and when i get back in anything else i keep turning the wipers on.
And it has a different water pump than the other SR20 series. The RNN14 is in a class all its own. It also shares the same injectors as the RB. I have one in a 92 se-R.
Fun Fact: the pulsar GTi-R is the Sentra/Sabre 200STi in south africa ,same SR20DETT but just a longer body but look almost the same but the Sabre is FWD and a bit slower 138BHP actually but highly tunable
ITBs, and different intake manifold design from the rwd SR20 and the Nissan Sentra SE-R from 1991-1999 came with a NA SR20. There is one more variation of the SR. That was the SR20VE and a SR16VE. The VE was Nissan's version of VTEC.

Cool to see such a beautiful car, the sad thing is that I haven't see you make a turn with it (which is why this car was built for) and instead talking about a 13"sec quarter mile

I remember back in the mid 2000s when i had a mildly built holden VY SS...LS1...around 400rwhp.
And i got absolutely destroyed by one of these cars haha. And was very confused by what had just transpired!
Definitely not just a pulsar with a body kit!
Something you forgot to mention that is cool about the Pulsar is the Sr20 is mounted Sideways* (for the haters)
Looks pretty vertical to me
I believe you mean not mounted longitudinally instead of vertically
@@evozero905 yea that lol im a bit tired been up for two days xD
@@cutthroat795 fixed it for you bb
Every Sentra SE-R and Infiniti G20 from the 90's is the same way. ;)
Who else is loving the meme integration in David's videos? lol
Hella cool and funny 😂
Funny, but maybe a hair overboard.
Ahhh, it's a hit or miss.
I leave in Quebec where we have lot of snow in the winter and this car is stunning in the snow... Really fun to toss around snowy corners
In south africa we have 5 door hatch and 4 door sedans called a sabre and sentra.. old specs have the front as the pulsar and we have a trim level called sti's and gxi's which came with sr20de no turbo which gets upgraded to sr20ve
For those that don't know, the FWD SR20 can be found in the following cars in the USA: (all non-turbo but easily upgradeable)
- '91-94 NX2000 (140hp, unsure of years)
- '91-94 Sentra SE-R (140hp)
- '95-98 200SX SE-R (140hp Sentra coupe basically)
- '99 Sentra SE-L (140hp)
- '00-01 Sentra SE (145hp)
- '91-96 Infiniti G20 (140hp)
- '98-02 Infiniti G20 (145hp)
We also got the GTi-R in Australia as well. I never owned one (I’d still love to have one some time), but I did own a regular 1995 Pulsar Q. As you said in the video, it was a little uneventful, but those GA16DEs were indestructible. I owned my Pulsar for nearly 5 years, and barely spent a cent on maintaining it, because it was just so damn reliable. I’d say it was the best car I’ve ever owned.
Love that car, I remember using that car in grand turismo 2 as the starter car and after your review it still is one of my top favorites cars.
My favorite Nissan is the S15 but I’ve also always wanted a GTiR. They are so different. SR20 plus AWD sounds like an amazing anytime!
Japan made some really good Nissans in the 90s and 2000s. The Sentra and Maxima platforms were also underrated, well the Maxima was at least in my opinion. I think the downfall is it's a FWD car... but hey that didn't stop everyone from loving the Civics.
We did get the pulsar. They're just called the Sentra in the US :) Unfortunately no, hatch, AWD or turbo though.
b13 is not n14 last time i checked.. even still the p10 is more similar than a sentra (infiniti g20), thanks for coming out though
Lol.
Ahh the good old baby GTR. There used to be heaps of these running around here in Australia until all of them blew up I presume.
As newzealander i actually see alot of them, even my small town, but you help but appreciate the performance that makes them so special
I've always wanted to import one of these
Used to be big into 90s nissans had my fair share of fwd sr20s. Wanted one of these but figured may be a bit tough to source parts. Still miss my 91 Sentra that had a VE and Jim Wolf cams.
love this car!!!! Someone with Celica gt4 or 22b hit him up
Senhue Ezechiels nobody is going to hit him up with a real 22b
22b is ome of the rarest and most expensive cars there is. I highly doubt someone would hit him up. Fun fact that is my dream car
There is a guy local in Warner robins with a red Celica gt4. Pretty sweet ride. There used to be a silver one as well. Lots of neat local rides
Yes please a Celica gt four the 92 body style
Would love to see a gt4 review
The hell is with this low view count? These are rookie numbers! Our man deserves better!
I remember using the GTi-R in the early Gran Turismo games, but it wasn’t even featured in the later titles as much so it isn’t as well known as the Silvia, Z(Fairlady in Japan), Skyline and such...
This was my problem with gran turismo, they totally drop this gem from the nissan lineup
They dropped the GTi-R but had like ten variants of Skyline GT-R lol... Come ON, Kaz!
I had one of these and a mate had a familia GTR when we first got our licences in 2006. The GTIR had way more torque but the BP 1.8 revved hard and ran more boost. Ah those were the days hahaha....
I had a 1995 escort GT back in the day and it had the 1.8 BP. Thing was an amazing motor
@@max68435 I'm guessing with a modern turbo, cooling, ethanol and a good ECU they would rip for the size.
We got SR20s in the US. We just didn't get the turbo versions.
Yep, 91-98 Sentra/200SX SE-R, 00-01 Sentra SE, 92-02 Infiniti G20
I owned a 2000 Nissan Primera P11 SR20DET JDM left side steering.. was a very fun car to drive but I couldn't import it to the USA..
@@geogmz8277 They converted it to LHD?
@@geogmz8277 JDM left side steering? thats highly unlikely since JDM models were right hand drive. Weird flex but ok
Glass gearboxes in the GTiR very weak, otherwise fun modern classic. Here in NewZealand we've always been spoiled with JDM goodness :)
Just passed through GA yesterday coming home from Florida. It was 103!!!
bro. you gotta keep finding these different cars. cars the country never got. Also i was thinking. if you are able to. you should like go to australia and do like australian cars. like the commodores and like ford falcons and finally drive the BARRA
If I had deep enough pockets, I'd Barra swap a few cars and be the reason Barra's blow up in popularity in Myrtle Beach.
Also love a b14 sentra that has na sr20 but also sr20dett is easiest swap same motor mounts
Victory Motorsport headquarters. This is the second one of these that I have seen. One was in CT.
Welcome To The Madness mot? ;)
The owner of the black one in CT recently sold it. I wanted it.
Yessssssss. Finally more cars I can relate to... These are everywhere in Jamaica
GTi-Rs or Pulsars in general?
@@LouisSubearth both... I even know of someone turning a regular pulsar into an awd version with the. Sr20vet motor... Running 9s in the quarter mile
Its like the more modern verisoin of the mazda 323 gtx and gtr
O noes sadam el zed is madam el zed
Oh, someone that knows the Mazda 323 GT-R!
I haven’t heard that name since the days when I had a 95 escort GT
the 2 cars are from the same era 🤣🤣
Theres a group a celica gt4 in australia waiting for you to try if you ever get to these shores . Hope to give you the chance one day david!
One of my top 5 favourite cars. AWD coupe hatch turbo. I need this. Love my BRZ but excited to get into the next car. Whatever it may be.
I've had the pleasure of driving one nice example of this car with probably even closer to 400hp.. was so much fun!
We got them in the UK when they was in production.
Great car.
Bad points, weak gearbox for anything more than stock bhp.
Kills drive shaft universal joints if you fit big wheels.
Yeah man the cars are fairly rare but to find a gearbox........impossible
Never managed to wreck a gearbox in mine. I own three however the rot monster has them
@@VintageTechRepairs you was lucky the 3 that were in my area all suffered gearbox failure, all were running bigger wheels and around 400hp, it kills them.
Just do a google search for weak gtir gearbox and there's so many forum posts about it.
You forgot about rust :D
@@PB_Motorsport hahaha hey they weren't that rusty in the early 2000's, that was reserved for the sx200 back then lol
Omfg! Wow great video! I wanted one of these 10years ago but was hard to find in Toronto. Super rare! Now find a Mazda familia 323 GTR .
I own 4 mazda 1988 323 gtxses
I had one of these and a mate had a familia GTR when we first got our licences in 2006. The GTIR had way more torque but the BP 1.8 revved hard and ran more boost. Ah those were the days hahaha....
So tru but i think ppl end up goin fwd with the 2002-2006 sentra ser spec v gbox
I've still got mine, a 1990 model which I bought when I was 24 and I'm now 45. It's still low kms but I never had that issue with the gearbox that people raved on about despite basic mods and driving it with about 330hp. Hope that helps
You gave me a heart attack at 0:42. Had me thinking my headphones were giving out phew 😅
SUPREME me too lmao
I saw the teaser on IG. I had the biggest hunch that it was a pulsar
I’m not disappointed
Not all right hand drive, there were about 600 left hand drive ones under the Sunny name
A guy I know, Reg Cook, here in NZ builds 1000hp specced sr20det race engines. Although the GTIRs he built dont make the same numbers they were up in 600-800
I see ThatDudeinBlue with a Pulsar GTI-R
Instant click🔥
If only Nissan had made OUR Pulsar this way...
I’m sure someone will have said, but the steering wheel isn’t OEM, the centre is, but the flat bottomed wheel itself and the textured leather is aftermarket
We DID get cars with the SR20, but it was a N/A SR20DE not the DET. Pulsar NX2000, Sentra SE-R, 200sx SE-R, Sentra SE, and all Infiniti G20.
I use to race these threw the country lanes with my mates as a teenager 🤙🏻🤣
Ever since i owned an 89 pulsar and looked into them I wanted a Sunny, and now I can actually buy one in the states so hopefully within a year I’ll get one.
We called this the baby Zilla here in Aus & NZ because that's what it was. Such a fun car.
Got a Pulsar N14 GTI, a learnt to drive fast and clean with it.
Plan is now to get an SR16 and cams. Drivetrain upgrade and lsd. And wanted to go with a GtiR (we had them LHD in Europe) but i just loved mine and I want to just conitnue with here next with my other cars.
Plus i can confirm the cargo space. I was a student for 3 years when i had this Pulsar. I moved with 3 houses without renting something bigger. But i also didn't had any big fourniture.
Perfect for road trip also sleeping in the back, seats down at the beach during was i very good memory !
I'm really glad to finnaly see a very good video by somebody famous for his quality about the N14 :)
Ah and the N14 came also with the GA16DE and the SR20DE non turbo.
They go for like 12k and lower at import dealerships. I would get one if California didn’t hate car enthusiasts.
california literally has the most car enthusiasts more than any other state because of the weather there and the car scene is huge
I’m talking about regulation. Stock f type exhaust is illegal cause of stupid sound regulations.
David LaHaie just buy a stock import car many import dealerships sell those
The bluebird sss was also a 4wd nissan based on the us nissan stanza. Came with either a ca18 or a sr20.
These are a really popular tuning platform here in Ireland, I love the little things!
A friend of mine has a 91 Sentra sedan that we swapped in a SR20DET from a GTI-R. He replaced the factory t25 turbo for a t28. It's a beast
the factory turbo was a t28. his sr might be from a bluebird
@@funkthew0rld I could be wrong. It's been a while since he did the swap so I may have some information mixed up lol
i just got an r32 last week and the only weird thing about rhd is the turn signal. in the r32 i keep reaching for nothing on the left side of the wheel. and when i get back in anything else i keep turning the wipers on.
Hey David, there is So many of these here in New Zealand, come visit bro!
A A still there? I lived in nz for just about 1 and a half years, only saw this on sale once in trade me
Any heads up on where to find them? Currently owning a standard ga15 hatch and lovin it for how reliable it is, but cvs have just started clicking hard recently
@@xplorer2361 There's one on TadeMe right now if you're still looking for one. Asking price is 14k which is decent considering its condition
I love sleepers, which is why I’m really going to miss the Taurus SHO, Focus RS, Focus ST, and Fiesta ST.
I kinda want one now. I had this same vibe when you made the video of that Mitsubishi Starion.
Glad to see one of these again. They were kinda odd and not super popular so not many people know about them
Finally did one!!!! Yes, the only other hatchback I would like to own besides my dream hatch Lancia Delta Intergrale Evo
In New Zealand and Australia, we called them Babyzilla's/Babizilla
Used to be everywhere in nz aswell till they all blew the gearboxes 😂
ive always liked these. Another rad on is the Nissan Stagea wagon, RB26 basically an R34 station wagon! and it shares alot of parts with the r34 too, GTR front clip is a popular mod. SSOOOO RAD!
Cool to see such a beautiful car, the sad thing is that I haven't see you make a turn with it (which is why this car was built for) and instead talking about a 13"sec quarter mile
There was another SR20 car the SSS but it was only a DE. Came in 3 door and 5 door hatch. Also a sedan.
turbo AWD nissan? you mean the MID4? or the Bluebird SSSR?
the rasheen :P
The reason the car never won a WRC event was it was only competitive for one season, so it never really got time to be developed, the season it competed in the WRC, one of the drivers was Tommi Makinen. 👍🏻 😎
There's also the pulsar sss which was an sr20 front wheel drive. They're very fun little cars
How strong are the stock motor and transmissions? When upgraded..
