  • One more RailPro installation video! This time is in a USA Trains SD40-2. This isn't an easy installation, so if you're attempting one yourself, be sure you have all the tools and supplies you need on hand and have plenty of patience when working on it.

    very interesting to see the construction of one of these things. Dont think ive ever seen a C-C with articulated trucks that way before.

      They have done some unique things with these large scale trains! I remember seeing a review for a 2-8-2 that articulated the frame in the middle of the drive wheels to get around tight curves, and then MTH did the same thing for their HO scale 4-12-2.

    Thank you for the clear explanation of installing your Railpro. I am currently doing the same with 2 USAT EMD SD40-2. I'm no expert when it comes to resistors for the lights so my question is do you solder a resistor to each wire? I appreciate any help/advice you can give.

      I soldered a resistor to each of the function wires going to the lights. The +5V wires don’t need any resistors.

    Very interesting to see so much empty space inside such a large unit. I wonder how much more powerful it would be if you filled that empty space with lead weight?

      I was surprised too, but if you did fill all that space with lead, the models would be immensely heavy, possibly in the range of about 50lbs!

    Thanks for your hard work on this model. More to it than I thought. Does the sound of the 645 p[rime mover work?

      You’re welcome! The sounds do all work.

    I just put together an old Athearn Blue box SOO Line, GP-40 I think. That engine you worked on is HUGE! Did you have to service the motors? It souned like they are really loud, but maybe that's from the track stand. That's also a beefy speaker you installed. Sure beats the tinny ones in HO Models.

      The motors and driveline are actually fine, but they are louder than HO motors because of their size and torque. 1 axle on each truck pivots and equalizes, so a lot of noise was from the universals since I had those axles hanging free.

    Where did you install the charge jack for the battery, and on/off switch? (assuming you are running RC/Battery)

      For the ones that got batteries, I put the switch and charge jack between the fuel tank and rear truck.

    Where is the prime mover sounds?

      @@prrhorseshoecurve I’m not sure. I just left it in its stock settings, and it can apparently be reprogrammed with other engine sounds.

    I messaged a friend of yours on Facebook Jamison. I had put a post out to ask if anyone knows someone who can add tcs wow sound to a Ho scale bachmann alco 2-6-0. He commented and said you’d be a good option. Would you be willing to do it

    • @DarthSantaFe
      @DarthSantaFe  Рік тому

      I think I can do that. The 2-6-0 is designed for easy sound installation, so it should only be a matter of wiring in the decoder and speaker. You can contact me at darthsantafe@gmail.com and we can work out the details.
