- New Life by Depeche Mode, performed live at Crocs nightclub, Rayleigh, UK, 27th June 1981.
This has been edited together using footage from a feature on the London Weekend Television entertainment programme Twentieth Century Box, broadcast in August 1981, together with soundboard audio from a bootleg.
There's a bit of a cheat involved, though. Before Depeche Mode performed their set that evening, they did a playback runthrough of New Life, their most recent single at the time, for the benefit of the cameras. This is where the video used here comes from. But the audio is actually from the set itself. Hope knowing that doesn't spoil your enjoyment of the clip too much.

I remember being in Crocs and speaking to Dave Gahan as he used to spray his hair in the ladies loos and met him many times in there! Great days!

That's me 16/17 seconds white shirt, black waistcoat, I live 5 mins from Pink Toothbrush which was Crocs, I spoke to the Band and Alison Moyet, Boy George played there twice in 2 weeks before hitting big time...

Horrible time. Things got better from 1984. Guitars reappeared thankfully.
You can like both. Did not have to be one or the other. Depeche showed more imagination in their sounds and songs than a lot of mediocre guitar bands.
Lol. This was the last great period of invention in music.
