The Grand Duke is based off of a early 60's Chrysler Imperial. They were so indestructible within most demo derby rules that they were outlawed, or made to run only against each other. The "secret" was the fenders, header panel, and cowl at the base of the windshield were all welded together. The hood was perfectly flat and set in like a channel. Once the hood was bolted down tightly, and the fenders welded to the doors, the whole front end was a solid piece with very little chance of bending, because the hit would have to be hard enough to bend everything. Which no other car was capable of doing without putting itself out. If there was one, it ended the show too quick. If there was more than one, people got bored and left before it ended.
@@redflthcui Not sure, most Chrysler products were uni-bodies. Speaking of such, my brother ran a '61 Plymouth Valiant in a demo once. It was so light when it got hit, it was like kicking a soccer ball. Didn't hurt it, you just shot it across the track. Until he got trapped up against the race track's wall. The transmission push button panel fell into the dashboard.
@@DDS029 The '67 and later Imperials took on the Chrysler C-body semi-unibody platform (the front suspension and front rails were part of the separate K-member), but the previous models like the one in Wreckfest were, indeed, ladder frames. Ditto with the New Yorker, DeSotos, and other Chryslers at the time (including the Belvederes - 'ol Christine had a chassis to match her disposition!). Their _particular_ ace in the hole was that these chassis were, in part, *boxed* from the factory with another C-channel, and double-width at that from behind the rear wheels to the kickup for the rear axle. Ford's Raptor chassis - both variations - should cry just looking at them. You're not wrong about the entire front clip welded and leaded together on the pre-67 models. Brilliant and outrageous at the same time, given how much effort that added to any fender-bender back then.
Please do a wreck the leader version with Best Lap as the win condition. It should keep everyone going flat out as no one will know how they've done till the end.
slight variation of this idea: go Keirin style and have the bus pull off at the start of the last lap and have the survivors sprint to the end. need to balance survivability for the first 80% and speed for the last 20%. Might need some other rules to keep people from hiding at the back, maybe throw in a combine harvester at the back on sweeper duty.
Tournament suggestion: Do a tournament where the Winner of the race gets to pick the next track or car and second place picks what's left. So either first gets to pick track and second picks car, or the opposite, but it's up to the winner what gets picked first. Everyone uses the same car, and first race just choose any random track and car. All same cars but changing every race is fun, I also want to see how fast you guys are in some faster stuff.
Me: been a FailRace fan for about a year and a half also Me: just realized the FailRace logo is black and orange which is Alex's favorite color combo on cars
Maybe for the next one of these, besides a leader bus, maybe a sweeper bus as well? Basically, the sweeper bus ensures that anybody at the back doesn't stay at the back and forces them forward. :)
I recall an answer to a Q+A you did a while ago, it went along the lines of: when making a game, don't restrict what i can do. if i want to do something sensible, let me do something sensible. if i want to do something crazy, let me do something crazy. I feel this idea was the epitome of that.
You should do it so that there's 5 laps of rolling demo derby and the sixth lap is actual racing for the finish line. Forces everyone to still stay close to the bus
For the next race you should get the bus to go as fast and leave the race on the second last lap like a pace car, leaving you guys to have a sprint to the finish :)
This was a great challenge, and I think it may be improved upon by having this same set of rules, but on the last lap, the bus moves out of the way and everyone who's left has a mad dash to the finish line. If that makes sense. Edit: In the second race, when the bus was stuck at the finish, Alex rammed Ninetales into the finish line when Alex was going for the bus, and I think Longbow crossed the finish line thinking the bus had already crossed the finish line when it didn't. So technically, Alex was the cause to Ninetales unintentional victory and to Longbow crossing the finish line before the bus.
Solution: Sorta ignore placement in the race. Here's how it works. Take the final placement in the race. For each driver subtract the number of cars they actually wrecked. That's the point total for that driver. Scoring works like golf. Lowest score wins. Example: Laddo takes first, put no one out. You take 3rd, put out 4. You win with a score of -1 vs. Laddo with a score of 0. Make it a tourney of 3 races a day, 3 day tourney. Film it all and let's have fun. *** Edit: dnf's automatically get the worst completed score for a race, regardless of how many cars they put out.
Would love to see you guys throw out the gentlemens agreement rule book on some GTA and Forza team adventure races too, if the format would work on those games... It has the potential for a lot of fun. :D
Set the race for 6 laps, everyone does a lap except the bus, then when the clock hits 2 minutes or so everyone goes but stays behind the bus. When the race is done the true 1st place is first place and the bus is a lap down.
Maybe tweaking the rules to this; the bus goes as fast as it can and on the last lap the cars are allowed to pass the bus. That could keep the demo derby a little calmer
ninetails is like this mythical beast that ruins alexs day in racing games, in STH all we hear is yorkshire and lancashire accents with the odd death from euan or chris representing the saltire. the suvverners are very polite, ninetails is too quiet to be oierish , but driving style must be Finnish, and was also Stig lol
Got an idea. Last lap, the bus pulls off then it's a race to the line. It will stop the sandbagging and cherry picking. You will have to maintain some contact with the bus to have a chance to win.
Since people can exploit (not cheat) Destroy First Place by staying as the second place or third place, why not try a new series called Destroy Top 3? If you're close enough to become first place, you're fair game.
You can have two busses or a bus and a relatively faster vehicle..... and the field has to stay between the two busses, or the faster vehicle and the bus.
How about a slight rule change to this: The bus drives as fast as it can, but if any of the other get lapped by the bus, they're out.
I second this, awesome change
Once out, the player must stop immediately wherever they are on the track.
yes great idea
Brilliant idea
...once they get lapped they have to travel in the opposite direction causing as much havoc as possible.

they were also pretty much a truck chassis i think.. and a big lack of crumple zones.

Love me some Car Lore (TM)
With how much stuff didn't bend, I have to imagine those Chrysler Imperials were just as horrifically unsafe in a crash as any other car at the time.
This was indeed tremendously stupid...but that's what makes it so good 😎
You can say that again 😂
So true it is
I'd love to hear your chat on this 1. I'd imagine that at some point there was a conversation about removing Alex from a race.
I will post it at some point, bit of a backlog at the moment x)
And everyone's got you to blame/thank.
Please do a wreck the leader version with Best Lap as the win condition. It should keep everyone going flat out as no one will know how they've done till the end.
This is a great idea
Or they'll just hang back and wait for clean air
When "The Dumbest Race We've Ever Filmed" is coming out of this particular channel, you know you're in for an absolute treat.
Alex: dont hit a tree!
Tree: dont worry for i am but a figment of ur imagination
Alex: *proceeds to go through said tree
Mario when the shrooms hit a bit too hard
And the gets wrecked 😂
How about having 2 busses? The racers would need to stay between the bus in first and the bus in last.
Or better yet, the 2 buses are racing each other
Ninetales with the battlebus at the rear mopping up anyone lagging behind
The bus is essentially the safety car but for a race where nobody is safe 😂
Non-safety car

The silliest of races make the best races. Love the crazy content!

_The Dumbest Race We've Ever Filmed_
Okay, I have GOT to see this!
The whole reason I am watching this vid lmao
dumb races is what failrace is built on. I'd say this is pretty normal in that case 😂
Run run as fast as you can, you can't catch me I'm the trophy truck man! (and I'm hiding behind that very small ridge obviously)!
This seems like a Laddo race from GTA 5
Great fun to watch and can't wait to see how you evolve this

If you ever repeat this one, get another bus that relentlessly goes after the last place
First race was my fave 😎
Ah yes, the famous "don't overtake the bus" tactic - as demonstrated on every single Transport For Wales train to Birmingham New Street.
@1:20 lol at the green car just flipping over for no reason
It was great to hear the fun you were having in your voice!

I hereby challenge you to have a race this whacky on Forza Horizon 5 when it arrives :D
More of this please Alex this was so entertaining to watch
Gonna need more of these, this was really entertaining!
For the next race you should get the bus to go as fast and leave the race on the second last lap like a pace car, leaving you guys to have a sprint to the finish :)
This needs to be done again - brilliant
Feel like this needs a crawler rule... Where you can't intentionally go less than 20mph
This was a great challenge, and I think it may be improved upon by having this same set of rules, but on the last lap, the bus moves out of the way and everyone who's left has a mad dash to the finish line. If that makes sense.

I had the same idea, sort of like Keirin races in cycling.
As much as I enjoy when you all do respectable racing, I do very much enjoy your chaos races too! 😄

I wouldn't watch it every day, but this is a great break from the norm. Lotta fun.
Wreckfest the way it is meant to be played!
Dam I love this. Demo derby on a race track? Hell ya! Bring this back again pleases.
Weakest engine for the bus, but the bus must keep racing as legitimately as possible
Hey Alex! Try implementing two busses, a front runner and a rear "sweeper"
Maybe a combine in the rear?
This has some stream silliness to it. Miss those days
Pushing wreckfest to its ultimate limits 😂
Would love to see you guys throw out the gentlemens agreement rule book on some GTA and Forza team adventure races too, if the format would work on those games... It has the potential for a lot of fun. :D
First failrace video watched on my new Lenovo chrome book and it is fittingly chaotic
Set the race for 6 laps, everyone does a lap except the bus, then when the clock hits 2 minutes or so everyone goes but stays behind the bus. When the race is done the true 1st place is first place and the bus is a lap down.
Proper failrace shenanigans. Wonderous as usual.
So y'all finally played the game as intended, and it was ludicrously fun you say... =)
You could do a hide-and-seek style hunt the survivors. They hide around the map, you look for them
The sandbagging is rampant. Have a bus at the back too, half a lap behind the front bus, if you get passed by the back bus you're out.
I have a slight rule change for the bus. Each lap, the bus HAS to go slower. Lap 1 is 100, lap 2 is 80, lap 3 is 60, lap 4 is 40, lap 5 is 20.
That's already what happened.
What a beautifully stupid way to race. I loved it, and would love to see more!
Half cars go one way of the track, the other half goes the opposite way.
Lots of confidence in that title. I guess we masses shall be the judge of that...
edit: title checks out lol
I like the bus rules! But your right it does need to go faster; maybe upgrade the bus to A/B class and have it actually race?
Maybe tweaking the rules to this; the bus goes as fast as it can and on the last lap the cars are allowed to pass the bus. That could keep the demo derby a little calmer
BEST TWIST AT THE END OF A RACE in race 2
What about a second bus at the back that you can’t fall behind? Keeps the pack really close together
Its like those gran turismo 4 pace car tests but with more cars following at once and more chaos
No this...This is a spectacle of motorsport!
Ooh, almost 500k subs!
That was glorious!
ninetails is like this mythical beast that ruins alexs day in racing games, in STH all we hear is yorkshire and lancashire accents with the odd death from euan or chris representing the saltire. the suvverners are very polite, ninetails is too quiet to be oierish , but driving style must be Finnish, and was also Stig lol
25:23 failrace National Geographic 😂😂😂
I don't know what's about to happen but I'm excited
I was right to be excited

Like Keirin in cycling?
@@anperson8329 My initial thought when I heard the premise was that the bus is basically a derny.

There's a fine line between dumbness and genius.

That's what I call good content
Everyone except the bus should do one lap so the "true" leader of the pack is shown and the actual win will go to them at the end as well
but then alex wouldnt have won race on a technicallity
#LeaveBumpyAlone #PoorBumpy #SaveBumpy
You guys should do some demo races or normal racing on BeamMP multiplayer mod form BeamNG
Quick question, what do you do when the Bus DNFs?
Should have added last place demo in addition, so people don't just "afk" at the back...
Oh my god this was great! MORE MORE MORE
Technically winning.
The best kind of winning.
300th Like! Haha Alex complains about farting around too much on the first race. Yet that's all that is accomplished in the second. Haha.
So, it's Carmageddon, minus the peds?
Fun!
I know it's a dumb race, but absolutely funny as hell!
brilliantly entertaining. I can only imagine the "Kill Alex!", and "Alex Must Die!" chatter on the game's chat
@LongbowX - Failrace Staff What happens if the bus DNFs?
The buss should pull off on the last lap and let everyone race to the finish
All in favour of the failrace crew being included in the FIA rules commitee say aye🤣🤣
This is really funny content! More!
Failrace does NASCAR! 😁
The Subscriber count has been stubbornly stuck on 497K for a while now!

This might need one more tweak, last lap is free for all?
So, not safety car, but, unsafety bus
i think you should have stuck with the first car you chose :D
So it's basically a Lindsey Wins but with lethal force
A class bus! A class bus!
Is it wrong to assume that Liam was likely raging over Alex in this one?
I recommend the poop sock server, ask neilogical about it he had some crazy vids on it
suggestion: get rid of the "must stay behind the bus" rule for the last lap
3rd race I felt good
