While that is true it's VERY unlikely that party will win and what usually happens if that party is popular enough is that the main party they most disagree with will win.
To me the whole theory on voting by the political scientists seems a bit American biased (yes, I know, the show is mainly based on American politics). Party loyalty seems one of the stupidest reasons to vote for a party and it certainly saddens me if that's how they choose their candidates. Same with the social background. But I guess that is the result of the current bipolarity of American politics where the whole political spectrum is poorly represented. Personally, I choose my candidates solely on their stands on issues. In my country, many news sites run these massive questionnaires on political candidates. You can then take the same questionnaire and see who you identify with the most. I usually use those and select one of the top three or five candidates, regardless of the party. I only have one rule when it comes to voting, never vote for the Christian Party (because magic has no place in government) and never vote for the Green Party (I'm not anti-environmental, it's just that all their ideas are too detached from real life).

When people vote, they are making a statement about themselves. They know that their single vote will probably not matter much in the total election, unless the election turns out to be INCREDIBLY close. So really the act of voting is just way for us to confirm something we like to think about ourselves. Problem is that most of these people make their money through either being paid in stock options or from capital gains. After several years most of that top 1% can sell their stocks for only a 20% tax because that is how the long term capital gains tax works. A flax tax isn't enough considering it would just inflate the taxes at the bottom and not effect the people who are really cheating the system.
Let's look at this logically. A CEO, makes an annual salary of $1,000,000. A middle class family rakes in, all together, $100,000 annually. A poorer, possibly single parent family takes home $20,000 annually. Let's just say for simplicity sake the taxes are at 10% across the board. The CEO is taking home $900,000. The middle class family $90,000. The lower class $18,000. Now, factor in all the other costly shit and the numbers stay relatively similar. However, the middle class and rich CEO can still live comfortably, with much less worry, while the lower class family may struggle immensely to attain a good quality of life. That is the exact reason a flat tax is not only starting those with a lesser income at a disadvantage, but it is also keeping them there.
No because that's crazy for people at the bottom. If you're making minimum wage and can barely afford to keep the lights on, you can't afford to pay the same portion of your income as tax as someone making 500k a year. Flat tax does not solve the problem of executives paying nothing, in fact it's the cause of it because capital gains (which is how very rich people make their money) ARE taxed at a very low flat rate.
Debates rarely change anyone’s mind. Each candidates supporters claim their guy won. The debate format sucks to begin with. They get pre scripted questions and prepare their answers. I would rather see regular people get to ask a question from the hip and each candidate get 5 minutes to answer that question with a direct answer if they veer off topic they lose their turn. But personally my mind is made up long before the election. I don’t want Trump again. But if it comes down to him and Biden Trump once again gets my vote. I vote against liberals not for Republicans. I think very few today would allow a debate to sway their vote. We could vote today for 2024 and the results will be the exact same as they will be in November 2024.

One of the biggest myths in the U.S. political landscape is that Democrats and Republicans are becoming more "polarized." Yes, I understand that this is the FACADE they give us in their overt behavior in front of the cameras, but behind closed doors, at least on economic issues, Democrats and Republicans are virtually indistinguishable at this point. The bottom line is, they both accept massive amounts of money from Wall Street, Corporate America and the military industrial complex which, in turn, all but assures that these are the interests to whom "our" elected officials answer. For their part, the Republicans have always been this way but the Democrats, who once actually represented regular people, really started going in this direction in earnest during the Clinton years and regular Americans haven't been represented in Washington since (again, at least on economic issues).
...and yeah, it's sad, but when hear your typical American voter talking about why they like or dislike any given candidate, the person's policy positions seem to come up a very small fraction of the time (and it's obvious that a good chunk of the time, the voter in question has no idea what the candidate's policy positions are in the first place).

I ask people all the time why are you voting for this person ? and there answer is always "oh i just like him/her"...... they cant even give me 3 points of why they are voting.... I know this is falling on deaf ears because the script is already wrote and the video probably already in post, but I hope you spend more than just a few token seconds on third parties. People do not have to vote for democrats or republicans.
While that is true it's VERY unlikely that party will win and what usually happens if that party is popular enough is that the main party they most disagree with will win.

To me the whole theory on voting by the political scientists seems a bit American biased (yes, I know, the show is mainly based on American politics). Party loyalty seems one of the stupidest reasons to vote for a party and it certainly saddens me if that's how they choose their candidates. Same with the social background. But I guess that is the result of the current bipolarity of American politics where the whole political spectrum is poorly represented.
Personally, I choose my candidates solely on their stands on issues. In my country, many news sites run these massive questionnaires on political candidates. You can then take the same questionnaire and see who you identify with the most. I usually use those and select one of the top three or five candidates, regardless of the party. I only have one rule when it comes to voting, never vote for the Christian Party (because magic has no place in government) and never vote for the Green Party (I'm not anti-environmental, it's just that all their ideas are too detached from real life).

I am an independent and have my reasons... some of which are actually touched upon in this video, but I'd love to see a broader take on it, and maybe when effect, if any, we have on elections.

When people vote, they are making a statement about themselves. They know that their single vote will probably not matter much in the total election, unless the election turns out to be INCREDIBLY close. So really the act of voting is just way for us to confirm something we like to think about ourselves. Whether that thing is "I am a conservative" or "I hate the Iraq War" or "I care about poor people" or "I'm a red-blooded church-going American". It's all about a declaration of self.

Problem is that most of these people make their money through either being paid in stock options or from capital gains. After several years most of that top 1% can sell their stocks for only a 20% tax because that is how the long term capital gains tax works. A flax tax isn't enough considering it would just inflate the taxes at the bottom and not effect the people who are really cheating the system.
Let's look at this logically. A CEO, makes an annual salary of $1,000,000. A middle class family rakes in, all together, $100,000 annually. A poorer, possibly single parent family takes home $20,000 annually.
Let's just say for simplicity sake the taxes are at 10% across the board.
The CEO is taking home $900,000. The middle class family $90,000. The lower class $18,000.
Now, factor in all the other costly shit and the numbers stay relatively similar. However, the middle class and rich CEO can still live comfortably, with much less worry, while the lower class family may struggle immensely to attain a good quality of life. That is the exact reason a flat tax is not only starting those with a lesser income at a disadvantage, but it is also keeping them there.
No because that's crazy for people at the bottom. If you're making minimum wage and can barely afford to keep the lights on, you can't afford to pay the same portion of your income as tax as someone making 500k a year. Flat tax does not solve the problem of executives paying nothing, in fact it's the cause of it because capital gains (which is how very rich people make their money) ARE taxed at a very low flat rate.
Debates rarely change anyone’s mind. Each candidates supporters claim their guy won. The debate format sucks to begin with. They get pre scripted questions and prepare their answers. I would rather see regular people get to ask a question from the hip and each candidate get 5 minutes to answer that question with a direct answer if they veer off topic they lose their turn. But personally my mind is made up long before the election. I don’t want Trump again. But if it comes down to him and Biden Trump once again gets my vote. I vote against liberals not for Republicans. I think very few today would allow a debate to sway their vote. We could vote today for 2024 and the results will be the exact same as they will be in November 2024.

I for one have seen more people voting based on issues, and the momentum behind Bernie Sanders indicates that there are a lot of people who have suddenly decided to become more informed voters because they see someone who is talking about the same issues they're concerned about, which they feel they've never seen before. I also would be curious to know if the "millennial" generation (those of us that vote) vote more on issues or based on party.

One of the biggest myths in the U.S. political landscape is that Democrats and Republicans are becoming more "polarized." Yes, I understand that this is the FACADE they give us in their overt behavior in front of the cameras, but behind closed doors, at least on economic issues, Democrats and Republicans are virtually indistinguishable at this point. The bottom line is, they both accept massive amounts of money from Wall Street, Corporate America and the military industrial complex which, in turn, all but assures that these are the interests to whom "our" elected officials answer. For their part, the Republicans have always been this way but the Democrats, who once actually represented regular people, really started going in this direction in earnest during the Clinton years and regular Americans haven't been represented in Washington since (again, at least on economic issues).

...and yeah, it's sad, but when hear your typical American voter talking about why they like or dislike any given candidate, the person's policy positions seem to come up a very small fraction of the time (and it's obvious that a good chunk of the time, the voter in question has no idea what the candidate's policy positions are in the first place).

I dunno Craig, given how many people supported the Patriot Act and the NSA's actions, I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that desire for government transparency isn't as much of a given as you suggest.
How you should decide your vote. which candidate aligns most with your views on the various issues at hand, and has a high consistency rate in his voting record(if he or she is currently elected to some form of government). Nothing else whatsoever matters. I am a libertarian. if a candidate with libertarian leaning views and a voting record matching those views was running for office through the communist party, I would vote for him. party means absolutely nothing, and party loyalty is some primitive tribal nonsense.

I don't understand how minimum wage is a spatial issue... I've literally never heard of any anti-raise-the-minimum-wage movement or rhetoric. I would say its a definite a valence issue.
I have to say I don't always know every candidate locally though I do make an effort before I vote. If I found I missed a race I will vote for my party's candidate as a fall back because I like the party positions and hope the candidate supports those positions as well.
