- It is time to get this truck wrapped up the best we can and get it out the door. Sure wish I just had a new or good used harness for this truck but we are going to do the best we can with what we have.
-Enjoy!

*UPDATE:*
Vehicle died on me the next day and I traced it down to a bad connection on the new fuel pump that was installed. The fuel pump connector was repaired and it's as good as it can be for the time being😉 Thanks for watching!
-Eric O.
Sweet sweet closure
Good job Eric 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
Good job Eric! You're friend is happy taking care of his family!
o
you are a good man Mr. O, good lookin out for your friend's little girl. We should all be so lucky to have a friend like you.
The most fun about your videos is actually you and the Mrs. interacting. It’s entertaining.
FYI, this video DIDN'T suck. You took a rats nest and made it more reliable and it's cool to see these messes get straightened out. I'm glad you got part 2 out quickly, I was dying inside when part 1 ended. It sounds like she got taken on this truck and overpaid so it's nice to see that the other end of that is you making it right. Easily my favorite channel on YT.
I spent all day at work yesterday hoping to come home to part 2......LOL. Ditto on the favorite channel.
Eric - great way to remember your good friend by helping out his daughter - know you will continue to help out any way you can !!!
The memorial at the end brought a tear to my eyes. I'll bet you didn't even charge her for that work. God bless you, Eric.
Not only do we like her smile , but Mrs. O's effervescent attitude that she brings to the episode..
The tribute at the end is Classy Sir !
24 y.o. so young and three kids. I bet he was a great dad. RIP brother.
Having a camera lady does indeed double the pleasure at half the price. Thanks for sharing!
You are a good man!! You stepped up for your friend who can’t! Helped take care of his family! God bless you and yours!!
I love the conversations between you and Mrs. O! Every relationship should have the chemistry that you two have, the world would be a better place!
For someone who claims not to be a sparky, you sure do a great job of fixing this old truck.
He knows there's a lot he doesn't know! Ivan can snow anyone in that area in a heartbeat!
Speaking of which, the spark with no steady state current was almost certainly the caps in the pcm charging up.
@@dans_Learning_Curve To each his own he & Ivan have collaberated on some projects in the past so I'm sure if Eric has a curly one he would consult Ivan as for this old girl I believe that Ivan could learn a thing or two as he deals with more modern vehicles.Cheers.
Helt enig!
@@LesReeves I'm not knocking Eric! Total respect! Learned a lot from him!
It was nice of you to get your wife in on the fix/vid, makes it feel she is apart of the effort too...I know she helps with normal customers' cars but this one was special and close to home and for a dear friend's daughter. It hit my heart, especially at the end...gone too soon.
Eric you have to be a little crazy to be a mechanic. I've been a mechanic for more than 40 years. Best reality TV I've ever watched. Awesome you are helping out this young lady! God bless!
@@righteousone1 your comment perfectly explains why mechanics need to be a little crazy.
Are you suggesting Paul little was incompetent or a scammer or both? How would you know?
Amen
This brings to mind my favorite quote from Rainman Ray. "We're all here because we're not all there."
True Reality not that Fake reality garbage they put on TV nowadays.
Great ending to an even GREATER video Eric O!! Thank you Mrs. O for assisting! God bless you both!
I love it! You highly suspected that the intermittent fuel pump issue was still there. From the video content I also suspected the same. So, Eric O. puts his own feet on the line by driving it until failure so that he could get to the bottom of the problem. So glad there are good people like you and Mrs O in the world. Hopefully the truck will now give this young lady reliable service for a long time. God bless you guys and your family!!
The length of these videos, already edited and condensed, makes me feel better after taking about 6 or 8 hours to fix a family member's 9 rodent-chewed wires. Unlike this RAM, there the main problem was that everything was hard to reach both from under the car and from the engine bay. It is also always fun when you fix something, one code goes a way and 4 more appear.
You’re the man for keeping that old truck on the road Eric! It even has the ram head on the hood!😂
I enjoy watching others helping out others. I work 2 jobs and 7 days a week but I still am willing to help anyone who needs it. A few weeks ago I spent 2 days after I got off at 4pm, changing a coworkers brakes because they bought a cheap jeep that didn't have good brakes. It took 2 days because the parts place sold them the wrong pads, and they had to go get them from a different store the next day. Keep up the good work Eric O!
You have the best damned channel I've ever seen on UA-cam. Bar none. Quality people, quality work. And there ain't anything outside your wheel house! RIP Jessie - Your pal Eric has things well in hand!
Sir. You remind me of my Dad , back in the 70's , when he'd be working on a vehicle, I'd be watching him & he would explain what he was doing to the car to fix the problem. Plus the car would be on jack stands , if it was a brake job . I like your program 👍 keep up the good work and showmanship!!
Eric, that wiring looks a heck of a lot better than when that truck came in.
Keep up the great work.
And your wife is doing a excellent job as a camera lady.
OMG He was only 24 when he passed away!? IMO, you get mega-respect for taking care of his widow! You, ARE A GOOD MAN!
Your videos are the closest thing to a daily soap series! And I don't even own a car!
Learning a lot, and you're pretty entertaining, and the occasional cameo of Mrs. O is wonderful.
Thanks for making these!
Ever considered doing some project with another YT maker?
Perhaps one that doesn't like troubleshooting much, like Carter Auto Restyling?
You're a good man helping a family that needs it.
That's as American as it gets.
Good job!
Eric, enjoy your vids. I learn a lot from you. Great that you helped this young lady out. Life’s not always fair but it’s people like you and Mrs O that make it a little easier in times like this. You seem like good people.
Most of us are jealous that your wife is so helpful in the shop and the office. She also makes you lunch.
This was a great video, it is never boring. Felt like we were standing right next to the truck with you. 👍
Brother, due to the fact that I am now hitting on 70, I am now a shade tree mechanic instead of a line mechanic. Yes, things have changed, but this video brought back memories on how things used to be diagnosed and repaired, perhaps some of the new generation can learn to be mechanics, not just technicians, one can hope.
i wish there where more people like you Eric this world would have been a better place
The world needs more good and caring people like Mr. and Mrs. O. When I need more reaffirmation about the good in people I always come back to watch one of your videos. I always learn something about car repair and more importantly about kindness and consideration for others.
One of the best videos I have seen with honesty, human passion, and a character of a person who truly is a role model for human kind !.you have a good soul Eric .
"what do you want me to do, chop it off?" is pretty good ... I like "there's your problem lady" .... my wife did not have any water .. i looked around the well, the pressure switch had two dead dried mice in it ... "theres your problem lady ..." wire brush and a few sparks later and it was golden!
Been waiting for part 2. Thanks Eric.
Brother, this is one job you could never do if you were color blind!!!!
THIS VIDEO is why we LOVE Mrs. O !!!
It doesn't surprise me at all that you would take on a job like that for the reason you did. The world needs more of that. Disabled veterans don't pay for parts or labor at my shop. it's the least I can do. Thank you for sharing such a personal experience with us, and at this time, 134,000 people will help keep Jessie's memory alive because you introduced him to us. A fine gentleman gone way too soon. I am truly sorry for such a tragic loss. Godspeed Jessie.
That’s indeed a sad tale Eric. Glad you managed to track down the intermittent fuel pump fault though. Your a good man for taking care of an old friends daughter but we all knew that anyway 👍
Eric, this video shows more than truck repair, it shows what kind of a person you are. You have my greatest respect for fixing that truck for your friend. God bless you!
Very nice video Eric, love the lesson for sure. The old truck is in business again. You have a big heart, Sir. I am grateful there are still good people like you and Vanessa in the world. We need you. Take care. Thanks ☺️
About half way through I coulda sworn you were going to tag in a rat to help sort out the rat's nest. Best advice from Mrs. O for everybody in the last video - it is ok to cry. We all appreciate you Eric doing the best you can leading by example with humor and determination. That keeps us coming back and cheering you on
Thank you Eric! It's always great to see you and Mrs. O. working together! 😁 You are a good man for helping out your tragically departed friend's family. You are a good friend and neighbor! 😁
My ONLY auto repair class in 1979 emphasized the value of screwdriver shaped test lights. That's half a century ago... Somethings never change.
I had a 79 Power Wagon, and it was a never-ending electoral problem. Best plow truck in spite of the wire problems. Glad to see you have competent help! Love the show. You two should be on comedy central.
More people watch when Vanessa is filming because of your banter back and forth. You two remind me of my aunt and uncle who ran a gas/service station a long time ago. Both of you make me laugh when some days I have no other reason to laugh. And you remind me of those memories of long ago of family who are no longer with us. THAT is what you guys do. You may be a great repairman on autos but your influence and fun together are the highlight of my day. Between you and Ray I either start my day in a good mood, or end my with a bad mood that both of your channels make much better. Thank you. Hug Mrs O for me, personally, from central Alabama...who would watch you paint just for the stories and fun...lol. Take care.
I always learn something in every video. I just wish that more Mechanics were as thorough as You!
Just when I decide on a 'favorite" SMA video, you go and make AN EVEN BETTER ONE!! This one has it all; Amazing troubleshooting, craftsmanship, humor, the unbelievably adorable Mrs. 'O', and this time, a touching, selfless act of kindness...... The best of YT right here!
Old school vehicle electrics - great work. Something I grew up with. There are very few younger mechs that would know whether to start let alone repair that rats nest. You are forgiven for not discovering the secondary fault at the physical pump. As you suspected something else may read it’s ugly head. Great video and nice to see your better looking half supporting you!!
Eric, this video really hit home for me... When my grandfather passed I inherited his '87 Ramcharger. Although it was carbureted, it still had a spark control computer, which failed not long after I started driving it. I ended up going to the junkyard and pulling an old-school magnetic pickup/mechanical advance distributor and all the associated wiring/components from a D350 dump bed truck. I spent hours upon hours digging into that wiring and installing relays just like you did. Sadly I had to sell the truck because it just wasn't financially/logistically feasible for me to keep it, but by the time I was through with it, it ran probably better than it did when it left the showroom floor. Thank you for sharing your adventure with this truck, I hope it brings that girl as much joy as mine brought me :)
This wasn't a bad video despite your concerns. I was able to follow everything you were doing. Very nice of you to take such good care of your friend's daughter.
L.O.L. Mrs. O with the best sign off ever. You could feel Eric's face blush.
Eric, a fusible link needs to be 4 gauge numbers smaller than the wire you are protecting. Example #10 wire needs a #14 fusible link. It also needs to be 9" long maximum. Just some invaluable information from an old time wrench.
Yup, this is true.
So out of wanting to learn any copper wire 4 numbers smaller with a max length of 9 inches works? its not a "special" type of wire??
I understand the wire is ‘special’ in that the insulation can take the heat of the wire melting/blowing. Don’t want the link to blow and then short out.
I owned and operated an auto repair facility for 40 years. From 1978 thru 2018. I thought I was the only dinosaur left, until I watched you. I watched the whole computer industry revolutionize
The auto repair industry. I like you knew I had to get really educated in the computer and electronics field if I was to survive. Your work on this truck brings back many memories of fixing many a vehicle that other garages didn't even want to touch. Watching you is like me looking in a mirror as to what I did for 40 years. I am proud to say people like you and me made a big difference in peoples lives just doing what we did. I am retired now for almost 5 years and I have to tell you, i miss many of my great customers, but I absolutely do not miss the daily stress and pressure I was under to get peoples cars back on the road. Great job on your successful business and keep the great videos coming.
Being a strip cutting logger in my past, it struck a cord with me hearing about the man's accident and the dangers of logging.. You did an awesome job figuring out the issues with that ladies Dodge. I found it odd that someone had removed the relays and hot wired them instead. Glad you figured it out... Nice work Cheers
Glad you found the final iffy connection and fixed it. Also glad you added the starter relay back in - best not to have too much juice running through the key circuit. Thank you for another great video!
we simply enjoy miss O she is a sweet heart coming out to the shop on moments notice to lend a hand.
Whew! Glad to see you doing the same thing I did recently on a 1987 Dodge Raider. I don’t feel like a hack now! Alternator and starter both had fusible links that got fried…and I mean smoke billowing out from the hood. They were right at the battery terminals. I replaced them with in line fuses just like you did. Then replaced the alternator which was putting out so many amps that it blew the headlights out. Nobody sells the original fusible links anymore, so that’s about all I could do.
Are you kiddin'? This was great! World needs more of this kind of thing.
If we all could have a friend as awesome as you.
Keep up the good work.
And the new found honesty in the video's price less
This video did not suck!
Not only is it a great instructional and informative video, it shows the human side of life. Well done young man!
Secondly, every shop needs a Mrs. O.
You guys are so cute. He gets all nervous when she is around. That is love at its finest.
Great 2 part vid. Thrilled part 2 came out so fast. Really appreciate the back story on the who, what, where and why. You are a good stand up man not just taking care of your own family but of others. Well done :)
this video does not suck. the interaction between you and Mrs O is great. you are not working out side of your wheel house at all. great work for supporting a young lady having a tough time in life.
Check of a job Eric. Thanks so much for helping out a Family in need. You DA MAN!!
Electrical can be a rabbit hole. Thanks for going through your thought process. I am always in awe of how well you understand Car electrical and CAN.
You're a more patient man than I....then again I spent 2 weeks chasing down a loose connection on my '47 ignition, lol!! Great job as usual!!
This video hits home, i knew jessie, we were friends thru school too, went to many truck pulls and spent hours turning wrenches in his barn. First time i meant him, i borrowed tractor weights for a pull i was doin. Great man. Thanks eric for working on her truck.
Nice work and very generous of you to do this repair.
This was pretty Inner Resting 🙃 🤙 Thanks for coming in today Fella
Eric O you’re a solid dude. Fixing that ole Square body dodge it’s good stuff. And I gotta say having Mrs. O holding the camera makes for entertaining watching. Not cuz I’m creepin on the ole girl, she’s a handsome woman and you’re a lucky fella but because when she’s holding the camera there’s the back and forth between you both and she’s hilarious. She sure ended that video with one zinger of a comment lol. You guys made my night.
Nice clean work Eric. Look forward to the next one.
Mrs. O is a gem.
And I love that old school ram hood ornament, that's gotta be good for 20HP!
Mate you're a deadset LEGEND! love your videos!!
Watching from the land down under 🤘🇦🇺🍻
Eric the electrical. Troubleshooting wizard. Love your interactions with Mrs O. Great couple the way she looks at you. Pure ❤️ shines through her face Great job on the truck for an amazing cause
Such attention to detail and ingenuity you've brought to bear with this truck. I learned quite a bit about older dodges since the only old stuff I've known was chevy/pontiac. Great work!
I don't play the suck butt so believe me when I tell you you have never made a 'bad' video. Mrs. O has always brought it up a level but it still was never bad!!
Eric I've learnt more from watching you than ever fiddling with my own vehicles, thanks for great content!
Hannah, Marie, and Amber would all be proud of you for this job
Great repair and videos as always. Thank you for lending a hand when needed. Is there anyway that we can help this family?
That was a big job, covering for other attempts to fix what was a fault made worse each time, until an expert takes over and spends too much time on it. Should have been scrapped ! Kindness is the effort here. Well done Eric, that was going way over the standard service delivery. Respect !
America's most wholesome TV couple today. Right up there with Ward & June Cleaver, Lisa & Oliver Wendell Douglas, and Lucy and Ricky Ricardo.
Another great job Eric 👏 plus you guys are a great team!!!!
Always great when MRS O visits with you while you're working! Nice update, you knew there was something up with that fuel pump. Your instincts are as sharp as ever even though you are running out of arm lol Glad you got it running again for her, god works through us.
Now you did it! You gonna get a whole bunch of old relics that need your tender loving attention!!
Great job...Her dad's smiling from above...
I feel like I need to tell you that I love your interactions with “Mrs. O”.
The spark is probably a capacitor in the PCM charging after being discharged. It will draw a lot of current for a few milliseconds, enough to fully charge the cap, and to create a spark (once). You can think of fusible links as ultra-slow-blow fuses, the advantage being that they are relatively immune to the brief excursions of current you saw when revving the engine. Regular automotive fuses are by no means 'fast-blow', but they blow faster than fusible links, so your choice of 25 amps in the light of 20 amp peak current is probably a great choice...
BTW, I really like these types of videos, even on the old stuff...thanks for all the effort you put into these great videos.
Those are the type of videos I love to watch, it shows that a dummy like me taking 4 days to find a short is more realistic because I'm no mechanic.
The video shows the depth of care and compassion you have Eric when it came to dealing with the issues that this lady had with the vehicle, it was not boring seeing you figure out in a cool logical manner what needed to be done to get the truck functioning and now the fuel pump is working properely lets hope her truck lasts long enough to get some payback.
Dang, Jessie was only 24. The older I get the tougher that is to hear about. Good job, Eric!
I really appreciate the relationship you two have.👌
Mrs. O is fiesty and definitely keeps you on your toes.😂
This young lady is blessed to have the two of you watching out for her.😉🤙
Glad to see you tied the customers battery down for them. That's a plus. 👍
What everyone else said about your heart, Eric. FWIW, this vid did NOT suck. For an old school bloke like me it was great. BTW, nothing wrong with the methods either, Short of building or sourcing an entire harness, that was absolutely the best you could do. Kudos.
Remember the good old days when the only wire you had on the fuel pump was the one you put on to tie up the fuel line to keep it out of the fan belt.
Great job getting that beast up and running, also glad to see the comment about finding the fuel pump connector problem. It was just a matter of time until it quit again.
You are the best! I am watching California BAR smog inspector training videos and I always stop and watch you repair everything electrical. I have learned so much by the way you approach these problems! You help people and thats the best part. Keep up the good work, as a lifelong car repair person it is nice to learn from a no nonsense person. Looking forward to seeing your next video!
For sure liked it when Mrs. O took the camera and Eric starts getting uncomfertable ;-D Thanks for fixing the young girls truck! Greetings from the Netherlands.
I miss that year of Dodge. Still got the Ram hood ornament from when I had to junk it. TY for taking the time to keep it running for this lady.
Great job of digging through someone else's mess. It is obvious that the last few people who worked on the truck had little to no idea of what they are doing.
Click and Clack said that if a guy is working on a car and knows a little about what he is doing and his buddy who also knows a little about what he is doing comes to help; the sum total of their knowledge actually goes down.
Thank you, Eric and Vanessa for showing us how you pay it forward to people you care about.
We all love Mrs.O and I feel this was a well filmed and well planned repair and how you put it in simple terms for everyone to understand and thanks for the update on the repair. ❤
The last two lines of dialogue in this video are perfect. My wife agrees as well.
