Matterhorn Climb 4K | July 2023

- 14th July 2023 - my dad, Christian, Morten, and I all reached the top of the fierce mountain, Matterhorn (4.478m).
We climbed Matterhorn as practice for our upcoming trip to the Himalayas, where we will climb Ama Dablam (6.812m) - which is also known as “Matterhorn of the Himalaya”. However, Matterhorn has proven to be a milestone of itself, and not just practice... It was a mental battle to push through the narrow ridges, steep climbs and difficult terrain. In the end, it was all worth it!
I have tried to capture the experience with my GoPro Hero 11, to show you the rawness of the Matterhorn climb. But, to feel the roughness of the mountain, you must see it, feel it, and climb it yourself - if you dare ;)
I hope you enjoyed the video! - Ігри
I find the Matterhorn a very epic looking mountain. I watched a film fourty years ago and it marked me a lot. I will never be a climber but I really enjoy the videos and films. Thanks for sharing. I suffer from heights so it’s on the ground i stay.
Thank you!
Outstanding !!
Congratulations Mark, what an achievement 💪 great to see the film 👍
Thanks John! Excited to climb kilimanjaro with you! 😎
Congrats 💪
Thank you for the great footage! I know that I will never be able to climb that mountain. Watching this video is the closest I'll ever get to being able to experience it for myself!
Thanks a lot :)
@@markboelskifte Forget this stupid comment I posted. I WILL climb the Matterhorn next year!
@@thebbqprince Nice! I wish you all the best 🙌
No room for failure
Interesting video; what a trip! 👍
Thanks!
Absolutely insane.
Excellent video, well done.
Appreciate it!
The ridge is scary. Thanks for the video.
Yea it’s steep! Thanks
Thanks for sharing this video - Peter from recent Kilimanjaro climb
Thanks! Hope you have gotten a bit if insight in the mountain :) I wish you a good climb if you’re going
I so want to do this climb someday! Thanks for sharing your experience!!!
I hope you will, totally worth it!
Sindssygt 👏👏👏
Great video.
Thanks!
This is a great video! Congrats. Was it as busy as it looked? Some parts looked quite congested?
Thanks! There were quite a lot of people, but we were quick to get in front of the line. So it was not a big problem for us - but for the others all the way in the back, it wasn’t as great I could imagine.
Неймовірно 💪💪🔥
Very nice sir🤙🤙🤙
Thanks man!

how much did you spent?
Hi Mark,
Great video!
I'm planning to climb the Matterhorn in September with a guide.
I have experience climbing but I find it difficult to determine what kind of physical condition you need to have. I live in Switzerland so I do regular hikes in the weekend. But do you maybe have a reference in terms of running (distance/time) or something else in order to assess the physical condition for this climb?
What was your previous experience before climbing the MH? :)
Thank you!
Hi! I’m excited on your behalf - it is a mountain like no other! 😎
In terms of my previous experience, I don’t have a whole lot since I’m only 19.. but I have climbed Toubkal and Ouanoukrim in Africa, as well as hiking across Iceland from north to south.
Anyways, for Matterhorn, you should just be in good shape - nothing crazy, as the climb from basecamp to summit and down only takes around 8-12 hours. You should of course do the regular running about 2 times a week. But I found that going up and down stairs for around 2-4 hours per session is the best training! So I would recommend a combination of those two 😄. If you’re already in good shape, you have nothing to worry about 😆
*it is more a mental battle than a physical 🙌
@@markboelskifte Thank you very much for the info, appreciate it! Maybe one last thing that crosses my mind sometimes: there are some bolts, pins and the guide puts the rope behind the rocks .. but are there many parts where you just move together? With other words 'if the guide falls, you also fall'? I know you shouldn't think about this, just trust the guide and enjoy the climb :)
@@daska1477 In my experience, there was bolts and pins at around 20% of the climb - mostly towards to peak. So yes, there are a lot of places where you are just walking with your guide without being “secured”. However, being tied to your guide helped my group and I many times, and was certainly proved to be very effective!
hi, there is a so called „matterhorn trail“ in zermatt where you can measure your physical condition. its near hotel cervo. i did it and it was really helpful. the best would be if you go down the trail to train that steep way down.
where did you spend your acclimatisation? and for how long?
We only spend one night at the Hörnli hut.
But before that, we also climbed the Breithorn Traverse which is close to Matterhorn - this was not only to warm up the climbing skills, but also as an acclimatizing trip :)
What rope do you recommend for decent?
We just used our guides’ ropes - so I don’t quite know
Coraggiosi
How hard is that climb? Grade 4?
Well, it is a lot of scrambling - making it grade 3 overall i believe.. but there are some quite vertical walls to climb which i would argue is around grade 4.
I would say it is more scary than difficult 😆
Just curious... do you eat breakfast and wait until you have taken a dump ln the toilet... if not: how/where do you take a dump while on the mountain / climbing a wall... also... do you bring poobags and toiletpaper with you? Lol
Do you need a diploma for the matterhorn?
Det ser sku meget teknisk ud, godt gået.
Der var skam også mange tekniske dele - det gør det vel bare mere spændende! Mange tak :)
More people there that in st tropez in August...
I know it's cold but seeing climbers wearing gloves on such steep terrain seems sketchy.
I see your point. No gloves would certianly be the most optimal. However, your fingers would go a little numb due to the cold - making it way harder to climb.
We also only used thin gloves, and it worked out pretty great.
Nope
Thanks a lot for this soo nice video showing Your soo Great climb in Good weather, now You have a new subscriber! 😊👍
A question, do we know which of the famous mountain in the Alps are the most difficult to climb? 🏔️
Thanks, nice to hear! Regarding the most difficult mountain in the alps, I haven’t done the research - but I am almost certain that you can call Matterhorn the most difficult and dangerous mountain to climb in the alps :)
@@markboelskifte thanks then Your climb are even more Great!
