The #1 choice is BY FAR the best that Linda Gray did for the role. I still think she should've won an Emmy that year because they really took Sue Ellen to the bottom, having her wander around downtown Dallas looking for a drink. That was powerful stuff, especially for its time.

Have you seen how amazing she still looks in 2023 and totally natural, unlike many of her contemporaries who went under the knife and look scary. Well, this could easily have been a Top 100. Linda Gray did a marvelous job at portraying Sue Ellen. One scene that comes to mind that's missing here is the one in the Weststar boardroom where she (together with Kimberly Cryder) outsmarts J.R. when he tries to take over the company. It would have made a great closing scene for the Sue Ellen character to go out on, finally getting her revenge.

Sue Ellen is one of my favorite Dallas women because of her growth journey. There were points where she could be annoying and points where she didn't have tons of relevance to the main plot going on, but those were both things that made her character stand out even more. Sue Ellen could be a highly flawed human being who could grow even if people were not rooting for her, and when she was more lurking in the background, that's exactly what she knew she was doing deep down, she existed for a long time only as J.R.'s wife and nothing else. I loved her storylines in Seasons 5 & 9 especially because those are when she really has to step out of her comfort zone of J.R. and booze. I think why I always rooted for Sue Ellen is because I saw a lot of myself in her and still do, I used to drink heavily and I would complain about my life instead of doing anything about it (still working on the latter), and I loved in S9 when she was at the sanitarium, she really committed to beating her alcoholism that time and the conversation with her therapist was an eye-opener for me and my life. I couldn't have imagined a better actress portraying her than Linda Gray, she did such a magnificent job with the character.

I was always routing for Sue Ellen, she struggled so hard to pull her self up. #4 would probably be my favorite of these, ah the irony when she tells JR it has nothing to do with his car, it would end up that it would be JR's car that was rammed by Walt Driscoll, who was trying to kill him but instead it was a drunk and enraged Sue Ellen behind the wheel, and poor Mickey trying to save her became collateral damage. That whole story line was so sad to me. It was one of my favorite seasons. I also liked # 3. I always thought it was superb acting and a great relation of their characters, especially in how the complete scene played out.

  • @IconTC13

Any scene from the Dream Season could have been #1, that's how good Linda Gray was that season. Another one I admire was was when the Ewings were held at gunpoint and Sue Ellen was humiliated in front of everyone. And the scene where Sue Ellen sees JR in bed with Holly and the reaction by Sue Ellen is so sad.

  • @pandemits
    @pandemits Рік тому +6

I believe the real number one scene is missing: After she won the custody for her son, and goes to collect him from JR with her mother, she astonishes everyone by leaving her son to stay with his father, because she knows that her son would suffer if she took him away from there. The only time in the series that we saw tears in JR's eyes.

Linda Gray is awesome. Sue Ellen was an excellent character. What about when she accused JR of driving away his brothers and cheating his friends over the nationalization of the oil wells? Or when she askee JR what sl*t he was sleeping with for the night? Or when she teases JR about not being the father of her baby? Also, when she was away from Southfolk when Bobby died ane JR destroyed her for not being at the ranch. Lasty, when Sue Ellen blamed herself for Cliff's suicide attempt and told JR she couldn't marry him if Cliff died. So many more great scenes, you need another video. This one was very entertaining. 🙌🙌🙌🙌

As for Sue Ellen, I'm in agreement with the comments made here about the way the character evolved over the years. As rights and opportunities for women developed in a wider context, so did the character, and she grew in confidence and stature. In the early seasons Sue Ellen was very much JR's chattel and her only real function was as wife and mother as well as being a person with an alcohol problem. However you couldn't help pity her for having to put up with JR's abuse and constant philandering. It was however pretty limiting what the writers did with the the character - Sue Ellen breaks up with JR (usually due to her discovering him cheating on her with some floozy), hits the bottle, then gets back with JR, forgiving him for all his past indiscretions, then JR cheats on her again and she starts drinking, then they break up ... an endless cycle of abuse. Perhaps that was the reality for a lot of women in her position at the time, though.

Of all the women on this show, Sue Ellen had it the worst. It's like her character was written into oblivion and the producers always had a bone to pick with her[character]. She always drew the short end of the stick. Though nice to have seen her rise like a phoenix from the ashes after glhaving hit rock bottom when wondering the streets of Dallas drunk, and make something of herself. She wound up a respectable lady having her own fashion line or something while JR had it coming to him for such a long time only to see it culminate in Conundrum, the last episode of the series where he apparently commits suicide. Apparently, because as the film reveals (the one made after the show ended) he only shot the mirror, much to Bobby's horror. That's how the show ended, with Bobbt having the last line as he walked into the room after having heard the gunshot: "My God!"

Around the mid 1980s Sue Ellen came into her own so much more, ditching her alcohol addiction and becoming an independent businesswoman - I loved it when she set up Valentine Lingerie - and when she sacked model Mandy Winger (who was having an affair with JR) - some great scenes! Then there was the 'Citizen Ewing' movie she made exposing and shaming JR - great move (which she made Ian 'Lovejoy' McShane). And yet - there was definitely an underlying respect between JR and Sue Ellen in spite of all the antipathy that sometimes existed between them. I saw a few scenes in the Dallas reboot where that was apparent. However it seemed that Sue Ellen went back to her drinking habit - not sure about that!

Callie said that Sue Ellen didn't look at all as JR described her (a drunk who neglected her child). Sue Ellen then ask Callie if she had sex with JR after he told her that. She said yes. Then Sue Ellen sauntered across the ballroom over to where JR was talking with April (in her floozie days) and punched him! It was the slug heard 'round the world and my all time favorite scene from the entire series. She finally knocked the crap out of him!

11:11 While Linda did/does deserve recognition for her portrayal here, this _did not occur to the Sue Ellen character_ (or anything else during the 1985-1986 season).
Curiously, at the very beginning of each, a brief footage from "Dynasty II: The Colbys" is used for this fine channel (which is not 1 of the quartet of "supersoaps"). Anyway, looking forward to more videos.

It was during season 10 after the dream season. B.D Calhoun kidnapped Sue Ellen and she went missing for a night and the family thought she fell off the wagon again. In truth, B.D. chloroformed her, set her up in a motel and took pics of her and showed them to J.R.

They should have ended the montage with the scene where Sue Ellen gets blown to bits in the place of J.R. ua-cam.com/video/fM692xFinF4/v-deo.html

No. She became free from JR and very independent. She produced a movie after she bought a movie studio. The movie was based on the lives of the Ewings and all their good and dirty secrets. She locked the movie away where JR couldn’t find it, and he of course tried. Her last scene was warning JR if she even so much as woke up in a bad mood, she would release that filth. She walked off the set with her European lover and I believe she moved to France with new lover. She ended up being a power against him.

That is one very long dream that Pam had. Her dream even crossed over to Knots Landing where Gary grieved over the death of his brother Bobby.
After Pam woke up, I notice her hair was now a lot longer than before.
