So In this test my opinion, at 50% the philips sounds better, very balanced. The JBL has too much bass. But at 70% and more, the JBL sounds better in everything, and has deeper bass.
The Encore can be had for $150 including 2 wireless mics at Walmart and Sam's Club during BlackFriday and hopefully a couple other times during the year. I'd say wait for that sale because it kills the Phillips. It just punches so much bigger, fuller, deeper, cleaner, clearer and with that sparkle. The Phillips can be had for $130 at B &H Photo, but I dare say I'd spend even double for the Encore. I've searched high and low for a small speaker that can wow me with impact. And the only small speaker that does it for me is my Encore. I'm enthralled with it so much that I bought another to pair in TWS. I've had the JBL Boombox 3 and the W-King X20, and with those, I just don't feel any of that heart pounding visceral impact that I get from even 1 Encore. And my 2 Encores together is absolutely pure joy! P.S. Contrary to my raving, I am definitely not a JBL fanboy..
Ya the encore is an amazing speaker and if you can get it on sale for 150$ it's definitely the way to go, although battery life could be better but it sounds amazing, the phillips is a surprisingly good speaker at a decent price, but if I had to choose between the 2 I would for sure buy an encore over the phillips

JBL is still bass👑. The passive radiator bass is a tighter bass. Both sound good. I use Poweramp EQ and bet you could get some adjustments on bass and treble.

Flat equalizer on the play store safe and easy to use. I tried the preset Base mode on there with the philips and it was at least on par with my xg500 which is still pretty damn good
It's a tiny bit smaller than the phillips speaker bit much to large to fit in a backpack, the xdobo King max can fit in a backpack and is loud as a encore which is pretty cool
I think you have it backward. The Encore has the much deeper bass. Passive radiators don't expel air as efficiently as a port does. But more importantly than the way a speaker expels air is the quality of the speaker itself.

Philips somehow sounds quite balanced and way more honest, but just not as powerful and lacks a bit of the deep bass
Ya you hit the nail on the head, it's actually got decent mids as well, but the jbl encore has a deeper fuller bass and more sparkly highs

The Philips have two passive radiators that’s why it has a better Deep Bass

I'm a big fan of passive radiators. Panasonic Thrusters made them popular back in the 70s.
