Appreciate your willingness to admit that don’t know the answer to something. Actually inspires confidence.
It's a green flag for when they say they know what they're talking about
Liver tablets were cheap back in the day now that everybody taking it they are crazy priced so cheaper to eat it.
When looking into what amounts of vitamins and minerals we can get from taking 3000mg of beef liver in a supplement form (which is a standard serving size) we unfortunately cannot really find out! Converting milligrams to grams and then determining nutrient content per gram is complex and requires specific data. Nutrient content can vary significantly based on factors like the animal's diet, age, and how the liver was processed. While we know beef liver is nutrient-dense, precise figures for such a small quantity are generally not available in standard nutritional databases. While we can't provide exact figures, we can tell you that 3000mg (or 3 grams) of beef liver is a relatively small amount. While it will still contain some vitamins and minerals, it's unlikely to be a significant source of nutrients compared to a larger serving. So skip the beef liver supplements. I learned the hard way, health wise and dollar wise.
I cook lamb liver and chop it up in small pieces and freeze it. 14grams a day, easy peasy.
Simple and efficient solution, i'll do it too 👍
Great idea 💡
100gm minimum for best results. daily
I’m absolutely not a picky eater. My mom used to call me a garburator as a kid. There’s just one thing I can’t eat and that’s organ meat. I’ve tried so hard and I just gag. So I use organ meat caps every day. That’s the best I can realistically do. Thank you!
Try marinating calf liver (milder than beef's) in lemon juice, mustard, knorr bouillon powder, Worcestershire sauce, garlic and onion powders, and whatever other dry spices you like. Pan fry it in bacon fat. If you like it soft, cook it for a short period of time. If you like it firmer, similar texture of a steak, cook it longer. It CAN be delicious. You just need to know how to prepare it right.
I agree. I can tolerate a lot (if it’s for health) but liver is a “no go”... no matter how I prepare it. Liverworst or braunschweiger with eggs or ground beef works for me though.
I agree. My mom used to cook liver for my dad once in a while. I would literally gag at the smell and have to leave the house. I could not stand the smell let alone the taste.
I love all organs . It's just not sold anymore :(
Those key mouth enzymes play an important role in early digestion and absorption purposes with fresh raw and cooked organs that caps miss out on. don't trust me look it up ..
I’ve been able to make liver taste good with bacon for a few seconds, but the way it turns to mush and starts to taste gross after a few chews makes it nearly impossible to eat more than an ounce
Mine was starlark frozen super mushy so I marinaded it for 3 hrs in milk then added oatmeal flour, black pepper, pink salt Cooked it with the onions and garlic. Idk why but it was somewhat mushy still but had a bearable taste not the best. My trusty A1 sauce got me through it tho not going to lie.
Liver capsules are great for anemia
You can puree liver and spice and salt it and put it on bread along with other meats
Do you cook the liver or is it raw?
@@TNewsh i cook it
I eat free range chicken liver and beef liver and kidney every day. I’ve gotten used to it. I think quality liver doesn’t taste as strong as grain fed liver. My free range liver I get from my farmer has such a mild liver flavor that it almost taste like flank steak.
I didn't like liver as a kid but when I was pregnant the doctor suggested to eat liver because I was anemic. So my mother suggested I eat calves liver which tastes better. It did taste better. So my iron counts went up and that took care of my anemia. The doctor gave me iron pills but they caused constipation. This was in 1973. I didn't know anything about liver pills back then. I actually developed a taste for the calf liver the way my mother cooked it. Thanks for the video.
Awesome, thanks for sharing!
@@chrismasterjohn You're welcome. This is good information in your video. Thanks for the research.
I just get pork pate from the grocery store. It lasts forever because it's salted. It's easy to eat little bits every other day on top of food.
Liver capsules are expensive and yet grass fed liver is so cheap! What about cooking a piece of liver and cutting it in 4 and eating a piece a day?
I hear of folk freezing raw liver into small pellets and just taking them like you would a regular supplement..
@@schwantz037 I wonder if there's an advantage to it being raw?
@@nanchesca3950 Think there may well be, surely all the nutrients are retained and not lost through heating/frying...
@@schwantz037 someone commented below that there may be parasites in raw liver so I'd have to look into this further
@@nanchesca3950 Liver pills cause extreme gas. Just google it.
Eating raw liver is literally like trying to ingest vomit, I can't even do it when I'm OMAD and my appetite is crazy. I will still take the pills but obviously not have the same impact. When raw, one can also freeze livers and take them like 'meat capsules' and cut off slivers to swallow whole. This is a strong compromise if you can deal with the inconvenience.
Also, a theoretical concern for me is that when processed, the the heme iron becomes oxidized to limit its absorption or if Vitamin K MK7/4 chains break down into their plant precursors.
I have eaten raw liver for a while before; just cubed and chew chew chew. :) Currently I just blitz it with some cold water and drink it keeping my nose shut. The after-taste is still not bad. Liver is a weird food for me, love-hate.
@@wreagfe Wait so you can just eat liver raw and swallow it with water?
I've started eating raw liver and raw animal foods since two years ago, not everything felt odd when I started but I very quickly got used to it, especially with liver. Now I enjoy the taste and texture and will never go back to eating cooked. Better energy, less food eaten to keep my BW stable, more food absorbed, less excreted, better digestion.
@@blackout2430 Check my comment above
dude, come on, just chew and swallow
Thanls for your transparency.
It’s called chipotle seasoning and it taste fine
I think the heat in the processing will take out some of the benefits, but I take them as a old gym guy
I grew up eating liver and onions with gravy over rice. I love a nice piece of tender calf liver, however, I am not going to eat cooked liver everyday no more than I am going to eat chicken or corn everyday. Supplementation is just easier. Pop a pill with a gulp of liquid and be on your way!
Is the b12 status the only concern if you eat liver once a week? What about if you eat alot of other b12 containing food daily, is it then a non-issue question?
I was thinking about that too, but then I realised I don't eat liver necessarily for the B12, more for A and trace minerals. I'm effectively carnivore, so it depends on the rest of your diet of course.
Eat 1oz per week will be ok
You've answered your own question
Cook a pound or more , toss it in the frige overnight for ease of cutting into whatever portion this man has said , 10 - 20 grams , the next day. Stick each portion in its own individual sandwich bag , put them all in another bag and then freeze them. Take one out the night before to thaw. Simple as shit. I do it every day and I fucking hate liver. Though I'll admit I was eating 2 oz's a day til I found this vid. I can't think of anyone's opinion I'd trust more. I'm glad to have found your channel.
He doesn't know
The problem here is 3000mg capsules do not equal 1 ounce, they equal just over 1/10 of an ounce. So those liver pills are quite expensive. Best to make your own. Videos available on YT.
The pills don’t contain that water weight though, so you have to include that in the calculation as well. Not sure what it comes to but I’m sure it’s close to an oz
Handsome guy! Was researching beef liver and got distracted 😆
Are those liver pills are also a source of iron or just B12?
Iron too
Is it dangerous for your health to eat liver regularly or liver supplements everyday if you don't have any deficiencies (well, not that I know of)?
One or two servings a week is good for most people.
@@chrismasterjohn thank you :) But if I don’t want to eat liver directly can I still use supplements ?
How much is a serving
What about the nutrient profile difference between raw and cooked liver?
10-20 grams a day is easy to do raw. Just slice a piece and swallow.
Personally I eat 200 grams raw once a week. Either sliced or in a smoothie (water, liver, blend, done).
Make sure it is young , and has been well frozen. ( I cook it all -- learned my lesson ) Most commercial animals have been treated for parasites , but nothing is 100%. wild game , especially anything around bogs, swamp , bottomlands is/ are nearly guaranteed to have flukes and / or eggs. Raw is more nutritious, but you'll be feeding lots of guests, who also seem to like liver -- even more than you.
@14miki More than you want to know about ... best to search it yourself .. don't expect to get info easily on what seems to be a taboo topic. If you want good info .. get from a veterinarian source . FYI "Fluke " tests for humans are about 90% false negative ... more FYI .. they are extremely hard to get rid of ..Praziquantel (Biltricide) is supposed to work . Theory = liver , spleen, gall bladder , kidney .. cancers may be associated ( I am convinced ) with flukes. If you consume raw liver , NEVER use anything discolored , spotted -- strange lumps or texture .. flukes take on the color of tissue. Eggs are microscopic .. their lifespan is indefinite. They live until you kill them -- or you get embalmed . ( they particularly like the duct work connecting organs in the biliary tree. ( which would make it a good idea to avoid the ducts in liver consumed )
@14miki if you want a keyword .. start searching " sheep brain fluke " .. flukes usually start in the gut ( but can actually travel through your skin ) then migrate through the body -- it would also be good to note --- you are more likely to be exposed to flukes -- though unwashed vegetables from wetland sources ... particularly watercress
@@jlondon158 Ah apologies, I could have been more precise. I myself always get organic beef or veal liver which is already frozen. In that manner it is perfectly reliable and safe afaik.
I have never noticed any discoloration from my sources. But it is good that you point it out. Great info.
@@wreagfe nothin' better than good calf liver .. liver -- It ( animal ) should not be more than 2 years old ( Biblical requirements too ) .. but nothing is 100% ( I usually get mine from family butchered source ) I make it a point to cut out the ducts. I've worked around "organic " sources .. no guarantee on a label either -- ink is cheap ( & money talks ) -- and sometimes the help "don't give a .... ") also (I drank a lot of coffee this morning .. check out sweet breads ( Sweet Brades ) ..if you haven't already
I do both
No one will 10-20 gram every day, am I the only one? lol
If you're newer to this should check your iron panels. I believe CMJ was going heavy on liver for awhile and ended up with iron overload, had to treat with chronic phlebotomy.
I eat that much too and never had an iron issue. Although I'm a mesturating woman so might make a difference
@@mamadragon733 yes that is phlebotomy by pad instead of needle :)
@@kemchobhenchod if your insulin is low you won't store excess iron
I eat 150-200g almost every day, raw
Can a person become vitamin A toxic from eating liver?
No, there are no studies of anyone getting hypervitaminosis a from regular beef, chicken, pork, or lamb liver. The studies that were done on that used synthetic vitamin a. Now the vitamin a in polar bear or sea lion liver are very toxic and much higher than regular beef but if you stay away from that which I’m sure won’t be very hard to do, you’ll be ok.
@@thrasher2863 I love canned cod liver, but I do wonder if eating it frequently (daily) could be a problem in the long run
@@thighdude7 bro that sound so nasty
@@conord1081 Supposedly it tastes like a savory pudding. I have yet to try it though.
Only if you are eating polar bear or sea lion liver as they require high levels of vitamin A to see well even in blizzard conditions. Learned this from a doctor berg video on this same topic.
He looks like Ryan Reynolds
Eat the Liver!Best tasting food on earth.
