This is so infuriating cuz you'll see really really good games that have like 7 players But some random horror game who's content is 90% from the toolbox (the dev didn't make most of the asset in the game) and it has like 1k players
the stuff from the toolbox thing is true for me 😭 in this coding place we were doing a kind of game jam and somehow the 7 year olds who used the most overused obstacles ever from the toolbox got 1st place and i got 3rd last just bc it was short even though i actually put some effort in (ik a lot of people won't care about this but i just wanted to say this)
Hey, Roblox Dev here. Really interesting video, you earned a sub ! I just wanted to add that if you're not trying to make an attention farm simulator, you're constantly under the pressure of the other side of roblox users. I'm sure you know what kind of players I'm talking about. They watch anime, they play TSB all day, and can be a real pain to deal with as nothing is good enough for them. Between them and the kids, it can be tough to get enough the motivation to make good games, and not succomb to the call of sloppiness. It's really saddening to see the game you put so much effort into be played by two people, while you could spend half the time making ten times more money if you did a simulator/RNG.
But these “kids” watch anime because they like it and they WANT to play these anime games. you can’t just force these “kids” to play your game that you worked hard for. if they don’t want to play it. I don’t like these developers whining that people don’t want to play a game that they have no interest in playing. and blaming them for not playing their game when the people dont want to.
Some games can actually be standalone games and Roblox developers have the potential to make a popular steam game, like Zeekerss who made lethal company.
As a Roblox Developer, it really feels like you’re being weakened due to the sheer amount of slop games that exists on this platform. And from what I’ve learned, if your game barely puts in effort and focuses on “trendy” stuff (like skibidi toilet and all that), you will gain success instantaneously because children don’t have the function to come up with their own thoughts as they just either gain thoughts from other people (specifically UA-camrs), or from the media that they’re consuming. It’s really easy to exploit their mind as they are underdeveloped and vulnerable. Now despite all that, it’s not hard to make a good Roblox game, it’s hard to make a successful good Roblox game. And the sole reason why it’s hard to make a successful good Roblox game is because of the slop games that flood all the other games that deserves the spotlight. It feels depressing having your game be topped by a game with barely to no effort and leeches off a trend. I believe if we had more developers who care about making a game then we could possibly overtake these slop games.

my cousin was playing sols rng A LOT, but he said "the moment i hit a 1 in a 1000000 ill stop playing", and guess what, he did keep his word. He didnt play sols rng after. however he found an exact same game with a new name and started playing that jesus fing christ
roblox dev here, I just wanna state that it is possible (but extremely difficult) to incorporate the RNG/AFK aspect into a well made game. Sols focuses on the premium afk payouts specifically, that's it's mechanic. However, if you added a daily roll or something along those lines into your game, a great example being gunfight arena with over 10k players consistently, it can get premium players hooked and coming back without just focusing on that aspect. I don't make games that can really incorporate stuff like that, however, which pushes another problem to the surface, being interactivity. When you make a great game with well made mechanics and nice progression and monetization, there is a very low chance people, much less premium players, will have interactive expierences within it simply because they could be hooked on another game. The RNG/AFK aspect is unfortunatly needed in a lot of cases for games to go viral, but there are ways you can incorporate it in without the game turning into a shitty content farm.
There are a lot of people in the comments saying that "Sol's RNG isn't gambling. The definition of gambling is 'risking money in hopes of getting even more money.'" Gambling addiction doesn't need to involve cash. The reason gambling addiction occurs is because of how the machine helps the brain generate dopamine. They don't take in risk and reward in consideration, they only care about the wheel spinning, the ball rolling and the coins dropping. What do you hear when you roll a good aura? A giant star, flashy colours and a sound effect of glass shattering. "Sol's RNG is a game. It has quests, obbies, events, potions around the map that boosts you in unique ways, biomes, coins and even a storyline in development. It has everything a game need." Yes, there are multiples ways to boosts your stats, but in the end, its just a silly random number that decides it all. This is called "The Illusion of Skill". Roblox is implementing features for more mature players. I don’t think roblox is a kids game anymore, not to mention all of the bypassed items on the catalogue.
The gambling is worse than genshin/gacha games in a way. i mean, most of them have more of a game content stuff as well, its playable without gambling, and it uses money, but you can get the currency via other means and most times theres a guarantee of a top prize. Its fun and you have use of it for the gameplay as additional parts. And, theres actually stuff to play and use and other content. But sols rng, is just PURE gambling. one game, no guarantee, no other content, its just renders and animations that look cool as the prize and it has no value so nobody gaf. There is no conversation you can start about sols rng compared to gacha games like genshin and hsr. They make you broke by spending money, sol's gets rich off of something you had anyways, being Roblox premium. Thanks for covering this topic, i don't play roadblocks much, but my friend has sol's rng on in the background 24/7 and i really hate the game, all he does is NOTHING, he has quick and auto roll and there is NO GAMEPLAY and NO STAKES cuz you just roll and roll without losing something to gain something or whatever, and no matter how much i tell him about it, he continues to play and sometimes covers his gambling addiction and stupidity by "but if there is something rare you can sell an account for like 30 bucks" GOD DAMMIT, i really enjoyed the video, i wish you luck man.
This is probably why Dress To Impress has a huge playerbase. It really makes no sense for a fashion game to have crazy horror lore but it's just another aspect to tie players in, to look for clues even beyond the game itself. Normally when there's been attempts made at stories such as this the actual game usually isn't made well at all but in the case for Dress To Impress, the game can easily be a standalone if they wanted it to.

Sol’s RNG is so popular because the game is LITERAL GAMBLING except the devs were smart enough to remove the only bad part of it, which is “losing”. The game is literally just shots of dopamine aimed directly at the head of millions of little kids.
Except its literally not gambling though. In order for something to be gambling by definition you have to be making a risk or putting something on the line in hopes that you will receive a good outcome. In Sols RNG you arent putting anything up for wager or betting anything, you are just clicking a button and receiving a reward over and over. Just because the reward is random doesn't make it gambling. Im also not saying that this type of game cant be addictive, but alot of people are calling it gambling when it straight up isn't. Also, randomness and variable reward is a fundamental part of video games. Someone could make an argument that when someone drops into a game of Fortnite and opens a chest, that is a similar experience to rolling in Sols RNG. Or when you break a stone block in Minecraft and see if there is a diamond behind it or just more stone. Most games have tiny random rewards that are addictive in the same way that Sols RNG is, this isnt some new thing that is melting the minds of the children. If you wanted to put a stop to this you would have to ban almost every video game from kids.

Ngl i dont really agree with you here, sols rng is not technically "gambling" because well, when gambling you pay real money for a chance to win somthing, in sols rng, you dont need to spend money on gamepasses and you can totally get every aura without any gamepass, they are optional, plus it is a game, since on the surface, yeah it looks uninspired, but there is a lot of content, guantlets, quests, events, achievements and much more, most people overlook sols rng as a "stupid child game" but i think it is actually a really solid game.

And I thought it was some sort of fighting game where a small aspect of it was rolling auras. I thought auras were just a fancy term for movesets. But when I actually entered the game, boy was I dissapointed.
As a starting development team we have actually struggled alot to slop games due to the sheer amount of frontpage unlike game's with hard work. We personally don't use toolbox to assist use instead we spend hours on blender making models for our games that go under valued because of this I think it's great you bring this topic up and I hope Roblox will actually do something about this

let’s be honest, roblox’s corporatization ruined *literally* everything. before corporatization - good games like flood escape, natural disaster survival, mining simulator, mega fun obby etc… now - sol’s rng, pet simulator 99, race clicker… (there are a few good games that a lot of people still play but roblox is actively supporting all the bad games) before corporatization - events were actually fun and weren’t a way for developers to get a quick cash grab now - at least 10 of the games’ games had some kind of pay to win element in it before corporatization - small games like hexaria were promoted in events like ready player one now - you need to join a dedicated experience for finding underrated games just to have actual fun playing roblox, while already big games like sol’s rng and psx are actively being promoted before corporatization - accessories were actually affordable now - A HAT COSTS AT LEAST 85 ROBUX WHAT (and yes this is roblox’s fault for setting the price floor so high)

Hey bedsheet, you know those sloppy obbies like: "MEGA EASY OBBY" or "ESCAPE THE MINIONS OBBY" right? Well i've got you something worth playing, enter: "flood escape". Flood escape is a obby/survival game where you press buttons to escape from the flood. For the most part this game is trial and error while trying to learn the new maps. Take for example Sinking Ship, a map where you have yo climb to the top of a ship that is well, sinking. Most newer players would have trouble beating this map, as it is targeted towards a group of players who have some knowledge of the map. Outside of the maps are cosmetic items like air tanks, skins, buddies and emotes. These cost coins (rewarded after beating a map) or gems (rewarded after rescuing an escapee, beating a daily task or by buying it with robux). As for the pro audience, there exists a special pro server for beating the following maps: Dark-Sci Facility, Sinking Ship, satomi Springs, Abandoned Facility, Lost desert, Gloomy Manor, Familiar Ruins, Beneath The Ruins and a single Community Map of atleast 4 stars. Would love for you to review it (why did i write a whole 15 page essay?)
Yeah as a mobile player there are certain games like pressure that I would definitely be playing if it wasn't for the fact that my phone can't handle them.
As a dev myself, the problem for failed games isnt actually that kids are dumb, its because of the community. maybe even you have that problem where a game looks "good" so you play it. when i hear the word "this game looks good" i get so mad because my games look good and still no one gives a damn about them. like its been happening for like a year now and its SO annoying. like imagine hours or days even months of work being wasted by someone trash talking to you saying "oh your games suck" or just no one plays the game. like its SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO annoying. but roblox doesnt even try to sponsor unplayed games bc of no money.
Not only is it scummy as all hell, but most of the time someone visiting the site for the first time will just see these nothing games and think that’s all the site has to offer. It makes roblox look bad to people who don’t know better or wanna dig down for the real gems…

Sol rng isn't a game, its a gambling casino that addicts found and stayed on for all the time it was up for, then kids found the game, developed a gambling addiction, and also stayed (afk) in the game. Mind you some irl gambling spaces will give you a few free spins to ''get you started'' which is the exact moment where you will develop the addiction, this is that but infinite.
A big underrated game is crawl, it's similar to dungeon quest but with lots of progression and customization, but it only has like 5 players now. Would recommend you check it out with friends
Theres a game called Social by saezi and I always play it, usually alone because its not popular for some reason but whenever I play with people its super fun. It's the best social hangout game I've ever played and it has no players.
(For the record, I'm not a game developer, just some random dude) I think I've found out why most hidden gems have low players. I'll use TCA (That Crazy Adventure) and my own experience as a player for example. Usually devs that make good games release their games *too early* and without *enough content.* When people find the game, they play through it, get through what's available and then just quit. When i found TCA, I joined the game, got max level, got what i wanted, found that there's no content left and just quit. Because you cant update a game with *minimum* of 30 minutes of content every week, so people leave. If game developers maybe release their games minimum of like *60% finished,* then they would gradually get a fanbase and a good average playercount. I'm not an expert on this, but I've been a victim of content drought in good games. **Sorry if I'm wrong and completely didnt understand by the way, feel free to bash me in the comments**
warning: long comment (most people cant read thoguh this without a break) it really does make me sad how underrated some games are. ive tried getting into popular games but i just dont enjoy it because of how overwhelming it is. what makes me sader is when devs i love get their big breakthough and leave behind the game i enjoyed (a good example of the is islands being abandoned for bedwars). I usually stick to these small underrated games since they community is easy to get used too.
The only *G O O D* simulator i know. is Dinosaur Simulator/DS. it doesn't have sketchy,gambling. or all of that. its an actual simulator where you are an dinosaur, a flying reptile, or a marine reptile. and survive, eat food, drink water, or fight to survive. 10/10 game to be honest. idiot edit: bee swarm simulator is also cool too

Talking about the thumbnail: Please play Block Tales. Ever heard of RPGS like Paper Mario 64 or Earthbound that are rich with story? Block Tales is comparable to those two games. It is currently unfinished at Demo 2 (Chapter 2), but it still is a masterpiece.

Another thing that Can be added is that games that get popular start to leave their roots and start to fall into the brain rot gambling slop an example being Tower defense Simulator used to just be a school project that was just tower battles but it got updates slowly advanced into its own thing but recently (after the most recent lobby map was made) it has gotten more and more bright and colorful and has added more and more gambling and game passes. another thing is a lot of the games on the front page have an absurdly low skill barrier light the battlegrounds genre but the thing that keeps players coming back is a very high skill ceiling that makes players want to get better and better until they either give up or ascend to the omni-sweat ranks however a lot of games that have kept their identity and have not added abysmal gambling are games like Pressure DOORS Evade all of these games are on the front page but haven't been turned into a casino. however, most of the new games that go onto the front page have been built to extract as much money from their players as physically possible (aside from things like pressure) Tldr some Games that start good turn into casino front page games have no skill barrier some games are still not casinos like doors most new front-page games are built up to make money.

funfact, in the editor, there is some plugin that exist that create simulator, for you, and its as simple as 5 clicks 1, click the plugin icon 2, set the coin name (not needed) (default is coin) 3, set the gem name (not needed) (default is diamond) 4, set the number of level you wan (not needed) (default is 10) 5, click "generate" and there, a full generic simulator game, in 2-5 clicks so in total you only need 2 click if you are lazy
Defending a game like BSS while framing Sols RNG for being creation of devil is kinda funny. BSS is just “lots of colours + lots of things happening + big numbers = dopamine” game. Don’t get me wrong: this game is engaging and requires you to do something unlike Sols RNG (even tho you do need to do something in Sols rng, like collecting rare items and catching merchants), but they haven’t changed anything, at all. Most of the things they add is more arenas to progress and more content to max lvl players, while 95% of all players haven’t even reached max amount of bee slots… (yeah I am exaggerating about the number, but you get the point.)
I really hate this too, the endless manipulation tactics to get kids addicted and get them to spend money, it's sad to see. If a game is really good though (for a wide enough audience), it will usually get popular too, think of Doors, Pressure (probably way more but I can't remember)

I just wanted to add that if you're not trying to make an attention farm simulator, you're constantly under the pressure of the other side of roblox users. I'm sure you know what kind of players I'm talking about. They watch anime, they play TSB all day, and can be a real pain to deal with as nothing is good enough for them.
Between them and the kids, it can be tough to get enough the motivation to make good games, and not succomb to the call of sloppiness. It's really saddening to see the game you put so much effort into be played by two people, while you could spend half the time making ten times more money if you did a simulator/RNG.
But these “kids” watch anime because they like it and they WANT to play these anime games. you can’t just force these “kids” to play your game that you worked hard for. if they don’t want to play it. I don’t like these developers whining that people don’t want to play a game that they have no interest in playing. and blaming them for not playing their game when the people dont want to.

As a Roblox Developer, it really feels like you’re being weakened due to the sheer amount of slop games that exists on this platform. And from what I’ve learned, if your game barely puts in effort and focuses on “trendy” stuff (like skibidi toilet and all that), you will gain success instantaneously because children don’t have the function to come up with their own thoughts as they just either gain thoughts from other people (specifically UA-camrs), or from the media that they’re consuming. It’s really easy to exploit their mind as they are underdeveloped and vulnerable.
Now despite all that, it’s not hard to make a good Roblox game, it’s hard to make a successful good Roblox game. And the sole reason why it’s hard to make a successful good Roblox game is because of the slop games that flood all the other games that deserves the spotlight. It feels depressing having your game be topped by a game with barely to no effort and leeches off a trend.
I believe if we had more developers who care about making a game then we could possibly overtake these slop games.

roblox dev here, I just wanna state that it is possible (but extremely difficult) to incorporate the RNG/AFK aspect into a well made game. Sols focuses on the premium afk payouts specifically, that's it's mechanic. However, if you added a daily roll or something along those lines into your game, a great example being gunfight arena with over 10k players consistently, it can get premium players hooked and coming back without just focusing on that aspect. I don't make games that can really incorporate stuff like that, however, which pushes another problem to the surface, being interactivity. When you make a great game with well made mechanics and nice progression and monetization, there is a very low chance people, much less premium players, will have interactive expierences within it simply because they could be hooked on another game. The RNG/AFK aspect is unfortunatly needed in a lot of cases for games to go viral, but there are ways you can incorporate it in without the game turning into a shitty content farm.

Thanks for covering this topic, i don't play roadblocks much, but my friend has sol's rng on in the background 24/7 and i really hate the game, all he does is NOTHING, he has quick and auto roll and there is NO GAMEPLAY and NO STAKES cuz you just roll and roll without losing something to gain something or whatever, and no matter how much i tell him about it, he continues to play and sometimes covers his gambling addiction and stupidity by "but if there is something rare you can sell an account for like 30 bucks" GOD DAMMIT, i really enjoyed the video, i wish you luck man.
This is probably why Dress To Impress has a huge playerbase. It really makes no sense for a fashion game to have crazy horror lore but it's just another aspect to tie players in, to look for clues even beyond the game itself. Normally when there's been attempts made at stories such as this the actual game usually isn't made well at all but in the case for Dress To Impress, the game can easily be a standalone if they wanted it to.

Sol’s RNG is so popular because the game is LITERAL GAMBLING except the devs were smart enough to remove the only bad part of it, which is “losing”.
The game is literally just shots of dopamine aimed directly at the head of millions of little kids.
Except its literally not gambling though. In order for something to be gambling by definition you have to be making a risk or putting something on the line in hopes that you will receive a good outcome. In Sols RNG you arent putting anything up for wager or betting anything, you are just clicking a button and receiving a reward over and over. Just because the reward is random doesn't make it gambling. Im also not saying that this type of game cant be addictive, but alot of people are calling it gambling when it straight up isn't.
Also, randomness and variable reward is a fundamental part of video games. Someone could make an argument that when someone drops into a game of Fortnite and opens a chest, that is a similar experience to rolling in Sols RNG. Or when you break a stone block in Minecraft and see if there is a diamond behind it or just more stone. Most games have tiny random rewards that are addictive in the same way that Sols RNG is, this isnt some new thing that is melting the minds of the children. If you wanted to put a stop to this you would have to ban almost every video game from kids.

Ngl i dont really agree with you here, sols rng is not technically "gambling" because well, when gambling you pay real money for a chance to win somthing, in sols rng, you dont need to spend money on gamepasses and you can totally get every aura without any gamepass, they are optional, plus it is a game, since on the surface, yeah it looks uninspired, but there is a lot of content, guantlets, quests, events, achievements and much more, most people overlook sols rng as a "stupid child game" but i think it is actually a really solid game.

As a starting development team we have actually struggled alot to slop games due to the sheer amount of frontpage unlike game's with hard work. We personally don't use toolbox to assist use instead we spend hours on blender making models for our games that go under valued because of this I think it's great you bring this topic up and I hope Roblox will actually do something about this

Hey bedsheet, you know those sloppy obbies like: "MEGA EASY OBBY" or "ESCAPE THE MINIONS OBBY" right? Well i've got you something worth playing, enter: "flood escape". Flood escape is a obby/survival game where you press buttons to escape from the flood. For the most part this game is trial and error while trying to learn the new maps. Take for example Sinking Ship, a map where you have yo climb to the top of a ship that is well, sinking. Most newer players would have trouble beating this map, as it is targeted towards a group of players who have some knowledge of the map. Outside of the maps are cosmetic items like air tanks, skins, buddies and emotes. These cost coins (rewarded after beating a map) or gems (rewarded after rescuing an escapee, beating a daily task or by buying it with robux). As for the pro audience, there exists a special pro server for beating the following maps: Dark-Sci Facility, Sinking Ship, satomi Springs, Abandoned Facility, Lost desert, Gloomy Manor, Familiar Ruins, Beneath The Ruins and a single Community Map of atleast 4 stars. Would love for you to review it (why did i write a whole 15 page essay?)

As a dev myself, the problem for failed games isnt actually that kids are dumb, its because of the community. maybe even you have that problem where a game looks "good" so you play it. when i hear the word "this game looks good" i get so mad because my games look good and still no one gives a damn about them. like its been happening for like a year now and its SO annoying. like imagine hours or days even months of work being wasted by someone trash talking to you saying "oh your games suck" or just no one plays the game. like its SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO annoying. but roblox doesnt even try to sponsor unplayed games bc of no money.

Sol rng isn't a game, its a gambling casino that addicts found and stayed on for all the time it was up for, then kids found the game, developed a gambling addiction, and also stayed (afk) in the game.

A big underrated game is crawl, it's similar to dungeon quest but with lots of progression and customization, but it only has like 5 players now. Would recommend you check it out with friends

I think I've found out why most hidden gems have low players.
I'll use TCA (That Crazy Adventure) and my own experience as a player for example.
Usually devs that make good games release their games *too early* and without *enough content.* When people find the game, they play through it, get through what's available and then just quit.
When i found TCA, I joined the game, got max level, got what i wanted, found that there's no content left and just quit.
Because you cant update a game with *minimum* of 30 minutes of content every week, so people leave. If game developers maybe release their games minimum of like *60% finished,* then they would gradually get a fanbase and a good average playercount. I'm not an expert on this, but I've been a victim of content drought in good games.

it really does make me sad how underrated some games are. ive tried getting into popular games but i just dont enjoy it because of how overwhelming it is. what makes me sader is when devs i love get their big breakthough and leave behind the game i enjoyed (a good example of the is islands being abandoned for bedwars). Block Tales really deserved to be in The Classic Event.
The only *G O O D* simulator i know. is Dinosaur Simulator/DS. it doesn't have sketchy,gambling. or all of that. its an actual simulator where you are an dinosaur, a flying reptile, or a marine reptile. and survive, eat food, drink water, or fight to survive. 10/10 game to be honest.

Ever heard of RPGS like Paper Mario 64 or Earthbound that are rich with story? Block Tales is comparable to those two games. It is currently unfinished at Demo 2 (Chapter 2), but it still is a masterpiece.

Another thing that Can be added is that games that get popular start to leave their roots and start to fall into the brain rot gambling slop an example being Tower defense Simulator used to just be a school project that was just tower battles but it got updates slowly advanced into its own thing but recently (after the most recent lobby map was made) it has gotten more and more bright and colorful and has added more and more gambling and game passes. another thing is a lot of the games on the front page have an absurdly low skill barrier light the battlegrounds genre but the thing that keeps players coming back is a very high skill ceiling that makes players want to get better and better until they either give up or ascend to the omni-sweat ranks however a lot of games that have kept their identity and have not added abysmal gambling are games like Pressure DOORS Evade all of these games are on the front page but haven't been turned into a casino. however, most of the new games that go onto the front page have been built to extract as much money from their players as physically possible (aside from things like pressure)
Tldr some Games that start good turn into casino front page games have no skill barrier some games are still not casinos like doors most new front-page games are built up to make money.

funfact, in the editor, there is some plugin that exist that create simulator, for you, and its as simple as 5 clicks
1, click the plugin icon
2, set the coin name (not needed) (default is coin)
3, set the gem name (not needed) (default is diamond)
4, set the number of level you wan (not needed) (default is 10)
5, click "generate"
and there, a full generic simulator game, in 2-5 clicks
so in total you only need 2 click if you are lazy

Defending a game like BSS while framing Sols RNG for being creation of devil is kinda funny. BSS is just “lots of colours + lots of things happening + big numbers = dopamine” game. Don’t get me wrong: this game is engaging and requires you to do something unlike Sols RNG (even tho you do need to do something in Sols rng, like collecting rare items and catching merchants), but they haven’t changed anything, at all. Most of the things they add is more arenas to progress and more content to max lvl players, while 95% of all players haven’t even reached max amount of bee slots… (yeah I am exaggerating about the number, but you get the point.)

I really hate this too, the endless manipulation tactics to get kids addicted and get them to spend money, it's sad to see. If a game is really good though (for a wide enough audience), it will usually get popular too, think of Doors, Pressure (probably way more but I can't remember)

Theres a game on Roblox called “Better Discovery” or something along those lines. Its basically the discover tab on Roblox but with games added by users, and sorted based on its rating. (Also by users)

developer that CHOSE to make games on a KIDS platform gets surprised that their game (that appeals to an older audience) doesn't get popular. if you cant find "good" games on roblox, that's a sign for you to either take a break from your device or move on from roblox.
