G'day from Australia. I think it's not the question of whether it is worth it, it's more so if the quality there meets the cost of the tent. I am buying one soon and that's why i watched your vlog, to see if the quality is there. That's what i want to know.
Love the design. Flawless functionality. Naturehike Cloudup 1 is my bikepacking tent. Also carry hammock and 2 siliconed cotton tarps to cover bike and outdoor cooking area. It's like canvas, but weighs much less.
@@matryderreviews I make them. (1) king sized bed sheet from Goodwill ... $7. (1) Tube clear silicone ... $5. (1) gallon mineral Spirits $12. Mix everything in plastic bag with sheet. Saturate completely. Hang 6 hours to dry. Attach tie-out points. Having waterproof, homemade 'Egyptian Oil Cloth' [$375] canvas that weighs about the same as backpacking tarps but acts like canvas in wind ... priceless! [See step by step how-to videos on YT]
@@matryderreviewsthe Mongar is a really great, and much underrated tent. Most who have one really rate them. The cost of some premium tents which flap and rattle all night long is definitely my main reason presently not to “upgrade” to certain ‘top drawer’ label tents.
This tent would work very well for me. My camping is 90% just outside the vehicle camping. So the weight is not an issue. The most important factor for me is getting a good night sleep and I cannot stand flappy, noisy tents that make 20 mph wind seem like 40, and 40 mph wind seem like 60.
One thing that puts me off is, on another review of the PC, it leaked where the chap was pressing against the side. For that reason I'll consider the standard Vern 1 I think, but an amazing structure and as you say, bombproof.
The polycotton is heavy. But, it's much sturdier than silnylon and quieter in wind. And more space on the inside. Both versions of the Vern 1 look like great tents.
Very nice review, but if I may be so bold as to notpick slightly. I always found it alot more useful when the reviewer includes a sleeping mat when they are showing the inside room of the tent. Other than that, I think you covered this tent nicely. I am waiting delivery of my own later this march, so I am looking forward to testing it out myself
The selling point for me would be a silent and robust tent - and I love the single sheet concept with a nicer less plasticy material. I also value nice quality gear and like buying less stuff. Would mostly go kayaking and biking and therefore don‘t mind one or two kilograms more. Think this will become my new go to tent. (if my xl mattress fits in there…)
I'll see if I can pitch it today and get you the dimensions. If not it'll be tomorrow. It's definitely robust and silent. I love canoeing and you're right that it's perfect for that. I think that one day, l'll be out in some hideous winds/rain/snow and then love it. It almost needs to be goaded into making sense.
@@matryderreviews thank you so much! And thanks for your time and thoughts. My next big trip is in scandinavia and being comfy in all conditions sounds awesome. Maybe even XL mattress comfy 😂 All the best to you!
Been looking at the other version of this, the Vern 1 2024, made of silnylon. I can't justify a 4th tent though and won't really take advantage of it's 4 season abilities!
Would this be enough space for a motorcycling holiday? Gear wise? Also I have a helinox cot max which is 750mm x 2200mm would I fit this in? Cheers lee
I struggle slightly to see the target for this tent. While it could be carried in a pack it is really too heavy and bulky for backpacking, and if one is therefore just going to be using it in places where you can drive to your spot (or most of the way) then weight and size is not really a consideration, meaning you may as well get something a bit bigger to allow for a more comfortable camp out. Still a lovely tent nevertheless.
I agree completely. I bought it but I don't think I should have. Instead of buyers remorse I think I'll aim to get some use out of it in some seriously bad conditions. It could be fun.
I would like to see that tent in heavy rain . In snow I would be more confident I think . All I see lately on UA-cam are reviews on the new Vern 1 2024 . Thanks for sharing , subbing to your channel at the same time
Excellent. Thanks. The last time I had it out it rained for most of the night and it seems to be waterproof. I would love to get it out on snow but it's not likely now. Saying that, I'm off into France/Spain shortly so I could take it with me and find some snow in the Pyrenees...If I do there will be a video on my main channel. I haven't seen The Vern 1 2024 yet. I'll have a look. Thanks for commenting and subscribing. Cheers 👍
@@matryderreviews I am from Québec ( Canada ) . Usually we have lots of snow and cold weather , but this winter has been one of the warmest in the last century ...
It's weird to be honest. It breathes well but ends up feeling a bit slimy. Everything stays dry though. I can't tell whether I really like it or not. I think it only makes sense in challenging conditions.
Hi, what I like about your video's is you get straight to the point, no waffling. thanks.
Thanks. I'm the same. I just want people to get to the point when I watch reviews. Cheers 👍

This tent is rock solid, there will be no flapping. I can't wait to get it out in some challenging weather to give it a proper test. Cheers 👍
Love that tent. Love polycotton too... but they do do a lighter weight plastic version...........
That would be just superb for canoe wild camping?
Nice, honest review without the influencer nonsense..
One thing that puts me off is, on another review of the PC, it leaked where the chap was pressing against the side. For that reason I'll consider the standard Vern 1 I think, but an amazing structure and as you say, bombproof.
As others have said its far too heavy. It is a nice tent.

Nortent made the New Vern 1 slightly bigger than the PC version, so you don't lose space inside. 😉
Ahh..That makes good sense.
This is an incredibly sturdy tent. I'm looking forward to getting it out in some more challenging conditions.
Is there a vern 2 PC

Please do nitpick. I appreciate the feedback. I'm new to this reviewing thing. It's a good point and I'll be sure to do that next time. Cheers 👍.
I just ordered the Outdoor vitals , Fortius 1 tent . I already have a Nemo 2p Hornet but , I wanted to try something different .

I know what you mean. Now I have a 4 season tent I have to go out in the snow and blizzards. I think it'd be pretty cramped with an inner tent.
Its a bit expensive, but looks very well made. I like the look of that. 👍👍
You're right on both counts. I've come to the conclusion that it's a four season tent and it only makes sense to use it in the 4th season. Cheers 👍
Very good video👍👍

I'd have thought so. I haven't much experience with motorcycle holidays but I'd use it for cycling trips.

Yes i think the same. Though perhaps it could be a bicycle touring tent ? I'm weighing up that option now as i love pc tents but mine are huge !
I think it's a bit heavy for bicycle touring but it can work. It has a niche. I just haven't found it yet. Cheers 👍
Cost apart, it would be stunning for canoe camping......👍
@@matryderreviewsperfect for bike touring, in my opinion.

I would love to visit Quebec. There are some worrying weather trends at the moment.
i like the shape. spacious for 1 person and nice apse space for backpack and cooking. Vents are too low I think.
Definitely large for a one person tent. Interesting observation about the vents. I hadn't considered that. Cheers 👍

3,5 kilos is to much ❤
Agreed.
Grow some muscle.
