This Live session capture is one of the best recordings for "Portugal the Man" I've ever heard. Download this now while you can. Also less than 15min so good little set list. Couldn't ask for a better capture if you are a fan of this band.
this is quite possibly portugals tightest performance! been listening to it on repeat for hours lol. also, who is the chick here that sings with them sometimes?? she compliments johns voice so perfectly!
Uh, you wouldn't use condenser mics like these in live situations. It's not just an EQ thing. Use the proper mic for the proper need. You would only want to use these kinds of mics if you were building a studio.
Because of how they work, there are very few reasons to use them in a live situation. You generally want the microphone to just capture the sound source directly in front of it. Condenser microphones are much more sensitive as well as having larger pickup patterns. There is no reason to capture and amplify the ambient / room noise. You just want to make the person or instrument louder. Not everything that is also immediately around them. You use condenser microphones in recording situations to pick up the reflections / sound of the room or often more importantly, the lack thereof. However, there are applications to use them live. When you have a large frequency spread and a large target, like a choir, string section or a piano.
Legit question from a guy who enjoys music but has zero musical ability. Why do singers usually sing with there lips on the microphone instead of just back off it?
Serious answer: It all depends on the session. When one is projecting into a microphone the live monitor relative to musician output varies. Look up "Audio Signal Flow". Signal Flow is a continuous variable that is always being accounted for. When a musician is singing into a microphone relative to other inputs really depends on the environment. For a extreme opposite example look up "Joji- Attention" Colors recording. It is better than the original studio recording and the artist is like a full foot away from the microphone..
I saw them live.,in Mn. At the end of the show, John ran to his girlfriend and daughter, right away. It was the sweetest thing in the world.

Bonnaroo needs Portugal. The Man in the 2015 lineup. Absolutely incredible.

David Karasek why?

Part of it is proximity effect - you get more low frequency response the closer you get (it's more complicated than that)
sick drum face @ 1:26-28
drumm is gorgeous
Who's the chick
Johns girl
Anyone else feel like they need to turn down the girl's mic a bit?
