CA glue gel bubble is very useful demonstration!!!!!! Can be used for anything! Working with CA glue is so hard and gravity is always in the way. Clever work around!!!!

I like to blend in epoxy by using rock chips. If you got dry rock, you probably ended up with a ton of pebbles and dust. Push some of those into the exposed epoxy (or glue them on if the epoxy is cured) and it does wonders for hiding off color epoxy.
I loved my Seneye that I got from you guys last week! It showed me exactly what I needed! I actually just purchased some T5 retrofit from you guys earlier this week and I got it today! Since I realized my PAR from my LEDs was too low and probably the reason why some of my SPS did not color up well. Thanks for this awesome video!

I want to thank you guys for this series, it has been tremendously helpful. I'm a relatively inexperienced reefkeeper, my tank has running just over a year now and has been keeping corals for half of that. This series has inspired me to make a number of changes to my tank and given me the confidence to really dive head first into the hobby. I've added a reef controller and upgraded to the BRS 150 watersaver. One recent change was a switch from a dial adjustable LED light to a T5 supplemented with antinic LED strips I added my self. When I bought the light I didn't notice that it already had 4 blue LEDs that come on during the lights night mode "to simulate natural moonlight". It's a very faint light but I'm curious how it will affect my livestock. From what I can tell there's some debate over the usefulness of this setting. How does the BRS team feel about this? Would/have you ever used this in your tanks or is this something I should make an effort to turn off?

I've been purchasing and reading aquarium books since I was fiveteen. Sadly, at thirty-three, I still haven't fulfilled my dream of having a chunk of reef living in my bedroom. Something I hope is going to change soon. (And, because I dream big and I'm willing to have my tank cycling for even a year, I have set myself the challenge of breeding mandarins. Even considering that I only have the amount of space equivalent to 40G to spare!). I don't have any real hands-on experience, but I've spent almost eighteen years reading about the... ¿hobby? I understand that it's like going for the brightest PAR possible but with this newly found information I can extrapolate and run them at a lower brightness hehe I feel like it's the perfect light

How are you determining what goes were PRIOR to gluing them on the rock? You cannot glue something and then move it up if it isn't happy or vice versa. I wish there was some kind of device that holds the frag and yet also grabs the rock structure for testing, all prior to final gluing. Thanks for the tips all the same.
I use the thick gel in the tube not the plastic bottle because u can never get all of it out!! Also if it's underwater and u stop squeezing, the water gets sucked into the bottle and it's done!
So i have watched every week. I see that your sump has a ton of marinepure blocks, I cannot get my nitrates over 0, what is your tank reading on the nitrates? Can you go over how your handling your parameters after establishment. I think its key as you progress and keep your corals you show us how your parameters are being balanced. More about nutrients, i think you covered the big 3 well.
Hi, you mentioned you are using a quad T5 lighting lamp. What ATI bulb colors are you using here? Also would your lighting be considered as 20k or more like 14k? I'm a newbie reefer and have a lot to learn. Lol. I have a 40 breeder FOWLR with live rock and live sand with various fish that's been set up going on almost 3 months now. Last month I added five coral frags: zoa, GSP, finger leather, clove polyp. They are all doing just fine. I use a dual T5 coralife 10000k with actinic lamp. I'm really wanting euphyllia such as hammer, frogspawn, torch. Three days ago I added two hammer frags and so far they are looking open and happy. I recently got a T5 quad lamp and read that many reefers are getting good color and growth with LPS by just using 3 blue plus and one purple plus. ATI also lists that combo for the 20k range. Would you recommend 20k for euphyllia corals or more of a 10-14k? I love watching your videos, I continue to learn the ins and outs of this hobby :)
FWIW I put purple epoxy on white dry rock for once the corralled took off but also I thought the contrast of a small amount of purple on the rocks looked pretty good.

I have 2 x Kessil 160WE over my 122cm x 50cm x 45cm tank (17 cm over the water surface) and I am trying to tune them as I am not having the best time mainly with many Acropora (burnt tips slowly expanding or slow tissue recession/bleaching over time). Some Acros and Montipora are within the top 15 cms of the tank . What is a recommended light schedule/intensity/spectrum? How do you suggest acclimating Acropora in my setup? Have you ever measured PAR from Kessil A160WE?

That's what you guys meant by using superglue. I never thought to use it directly underwater. I wish I would have known this before attaching all those frag plugs! Ugh. Lol
+brihortee I use either thrive coral glue gel or regular super glue gel from the market. I usually get the one in the yellow packaging (original super glue gel) or whatever's on sale. I'm not that picky. Just make sure it's the gel kind.
I have a jbj nano cube. So adjusting lighting and flow is out... so where would I place acans and duncans??? I love this series cause its gonna make it easier for me when I setup my next tank 👍
Once you have mounted the coral and it has had a long time to grow and instead of being a 1" frag it's a 7" coral how do you remove it without breaking it?

Hi, if I had a zoa frag and wanted to mount it sideways on the back of the tank would the heads facing downwards towards the sand bed die as they are not receiving any light?
what are some good choice for the sides of big rocks? Lps and softie tank. I dont want to put zoas because of them spreading and also mushrooms. Will it bend the coral sideways and try to grow towards light? I had a pectenia do that sort of. Cant really remember because it been a while but it grew differently I know that. Are there any mushroom that wont spread? i have on ebig ricordia that I am going to use and hasnt spread and a blasto but not sure what else i can put! I could never get my seneye to work I got from u and cant get a response from them! So now i really hate to rent one! Should have done that or sent it back to begin with!
How do you get gooey corals attached? For example, I had a mushroom detach and ended up putting it in a bowl with rubble hoping it'd reattach on its own. The coral glue options just didn't get the job done.

When I stacked my rocks I got to a really nice structure but at the top it's a little wobbly. What method should I use? I was thinking the thick super glue approach.
Any advise on mounting a piece of finger coral? I've tried drying it off and attaching to a mount with gel glue but the coral seems to be producing a slime layer that prevents the glue from sticking to it. It tried holding it in place overnight with a loose rubber band and that didn't help either...

So, like..dumb beginner question. do you have to frag corals to get them to grow over the rockwork? Or if I place a coral somewhere overtime will it spread over the space it has?
Hey BRS, I've been trying to glue my zoa frags but they don't even stick. They fall due to the slightest touch or if a crab walks by. Am I doing it wrong? I use reef glue, put glue on the frag then go underwater and stick it to the rock. No luck.
I would suggest gluing the zoa frag to a piece of rubble rock out of the water, then using the epoxy/super glue hybrid method that Ryan talks about to mount the rubble to the main rock structure. It's easier and you'll get a stronger bond.
Yeah! You glue the base into the rocks and you can easily change the corals that are on different plugs. Also, another idea. You know how ice is often used to get anemones off rocks. Wedge shaped ice cube mould.
Bought my first coral a torch and it’s been maybe 1.5 hours since I’ve applied him to the rock work with reef glue he hasn’t opened up at all did I do something wrong?
Bulk Reef Supply well figured out the problem 10 hours later I glued him upside down.. think it will grow correctly now I fixed it and fed it with Kent. I got the glue off the head of the coral
@@Vidishish Yeah, I m not stupid. I look to see what I want, plan for it and set up everything I want in the tank before I begin adding water. I have shelves placed all across the ledges and branchges, each to total a certain size I can successfully place what and where I want. I'm not one to shuffle things around, usually I don't have problems with moving but if so I place them where there's other shelves. If you are not happy with the way I plan my aquariums then don't read or comment.
Setting up my first reef tank. I was shocked you can put any glue in a tank at all (with clowns checking it out as you put in frags). All the parameters and tests involved with this hobby and toxic evaporative glue is ok...wow.
cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) is what you'll want to use. Specifically extra thick super glue as it's easier to work with. If you won't want to use glue, there are a lot of different epoxies out there like Tunze Coral Gum that you can use too.

I use the glue epoxy hybrid.It works great for zoanthids, branching hammers and to secure aquascaping. I always use gel super glue.

Super glue is a great tool for securing your rock structure. Tunze Coral Gum also works really well and both cure underwater.
Any advise on mounting a piece of finger coral? I've tried drying it off and attaching to a mount with gel glue but the coral seems to be producing a slime layer that prevents the glue from sticking to it. It tried holding it in place overnight with a loose rubber band and that didn't help either...
Have you tried using a accelerator with your glue to make this hold faster? I would give this a shot! We have this on our site, and works well at hardening the glue.

What if you don't glue your corals? Could you just find a stable place to put your frag?

So, like..dumb beginner question. do you have to frag corals to get them to grow over the rockwork? Or if I place a coral somewhere overtime will it spread over the space it has?
Most corals can just be glued into place and then will grow onto the rock work 🙂

Hey BRS, I've been trying to glue my zoa frags but they don't even stick. They fall due to the slightest touch or if a crab walks by. Am I doing it wrong? I use reef glue, put glue on the frag then go underwater and stick it to the rock. No luck.
I would suggest gluing the zoa frag to a piece of rubble rock out of the water, then using the epoxy/super glue hybrid method that Ryan talks about to mount the rubble to the main rock structure. It's easier and you'll get a stronger bond.
How do you remove the frags from their plugs to get such a small coral to place?
Several sized flat head screwdrivers do wonders on prying coral off frag plugs. Be gentle with this method.

Yeah! You glue the base into the rocks and you can easily change the corals that are on different plugs. Also, another idea. You know how ice is often used to get anemones off rocks. Wedge shaped ice cube mould.
Bought my first coral a torch and it’s been maybe 1.5 hours since I’ve applied him to the rock work with reef glue he hasn’t opened up at all did I do something wrong?
Give him some time. The coral has been in the tank for just over an hour and is more than likely just acclimating to it's new surroundings.

Bulk Reef Supply well figured out the problem 10 hours later I glued him upside down.. think it will grow correctly now I fixed it and fed it with Kent. I got the glue off the head of the coral

You can definitely let the coral grow directly on your rock work and avoid the frag plug entirely.

@@Vidishish Yeah, I m not stupid. I look to see what I want, plan for it and set up everything I want in the tank before I begin adding water. I have shelves placed all across the ledges and branchges, each to total a certain size I can successfully place what and where I want. I'm not one to shuffle things around, usually I don't have problems with moving but if so I place them where there's other shelves. If you are not happy with the way I plan my aquariums then don't read or comment.
Setting up my first reef tank. I was shocked you can put any glue in a tank at all (with clowns checking it out as you put in frags). All the parameters and tests involved with this hobby and toxic evaporative glue is ok...wow.
cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) is what you'll want to use. Specifically extra thick super glue as it's easier to work with. If you won't want to use glue, there are a lot of different epoxies out there like Tunze Coral Gum that you can use too.
