As a mam of 5, 1 with t1 diabetes and another being tested for ADHD and feeling so exhausted regularly my advice on the food front would be setting 1 day a month to the side and batch cook and fill the freezer so when you feel a little exhausted and dont have the energy you have food there that just needs heating up, i was amazed at how much money i had left after we stopped the take aways/eating out xxx
I live in the us as well. As a family of 4 me, my husband, 15yo boy and 20 yo boy i budget 40 a week. I plan all of our meals and buy in bulk once every few months. Prices here are absolutely ridiculous!
With the laptop being gone in Dec, there is an extra 150 for 3 months that could do almost an extra SL payment or add it into snowball. The diapers won't be for 4 years i hope and that would free up money for other sinking funds or extra debt payment.
One thing I am reminded of as I watch these videos is buying meaningful gifts rather than the most expensive is typically cheaper. Also I personally keep my eyes out all the time for gifts and stash them away with a list on my phone of what and where. I just gave my mom a card for her birthday that I bought a year before because it was perfect, and is now a decorative thing. We don't typically do cards in my family and switched to reusing gift bags ages ago.
Good call on the diapers thing! My nephew is getting potty trained and he's in underwear and pull-ups, and it seems to be saving them some money. I'm looking forward to that happening for us. Also because then less diaper rash too, poor baby.
I'm also someone who does the meaningful gift thing. I also get stuff for people when I see it and I'm reminded of them. I ran into a problem with that, though, when I couldn't go to a kid birthday party. I thought I gave the gift to another attendee, but apparently I didn't. So I need to start marking "bought for so-and-so for this event for this year". lol
It would be nice if finances could be combined as a family and it became a team effort to pay off debt and balance the entire budget IMO. 💙
Love this ❤ very inspiring advice, and to remember that after the 6months her other amounts will be 6 months lower too 😊 xx
Very nice budget bestie, bestie! It's definitely a unique and very useful perspective. And I very much appreciate you not saying "just combine money and tackle together". There are a number of reasons people don't combine finances, and I'm really glad you respected that here. My husband and I do not combine finances, mostly because I have a complex about money (comes from growing up poor with a mother that did not teach me good money habits and ended up with men who bled her dry; don't worry, I'm in therapy lol). It also makes me feel better to know my spending isn't scrutinized. Just because I'm married, doesn't mean I don't want to be independent as well.
Anyway. I liked your take on this one! You gave a good, new perspective and it seems super doable. Hopefully this person was paying attention and tries out your method.
Student loans /suck/ asshole. lol
These budget bestie videos are my favourite ❤
I have been loving your budget bestie videos and have been binge watching them to learn more about finances!
💙 debt is so scary, 4 years to pay it off seems so long but all your decisions make sense!!
💙 Good breakdown Ira. The biggest thing is not adding one more penny to the cc. And tracking, especially groceries, to see where that money is actually going and what can be cut. 💙 25:47
💙💙💙 great video today.
I absolutely love these budget bestie videos! ❤
Love Budget Besties videos 💙
They not credit card people. Cancel them and pay them off because no they don't need credit cards at all. So minimum payment everything as pay push most of it to pay credit cards after when 150 open 75 to sinking 75 to credit cards. When next open divide again yes they r low payments but will save more in the long run.
💙 great budget bestie

Babysitter and daycare?
They might be only able to get limited days in daycare, so in order to work, they have to get a babysitter to cover the other days.
Daycare is very expensive in America. We send our kiddo 2 days a week and it's $263 per week. We want to send him a third, but it's pretty cost prohibitive. My mom is nice enough to come down and help for another couple days of the week. We work from home, so it's not a huge responsibility for her anyway, but it helps when we have meetings and need to shut him out. It really helps us to do it this way.
Good video. Since this person had so much debt and not much margin, your plan is a sound one. Once they start paying off debt, they don't need to accumulate any more. As another person suggested, maybe combining finances with their spouse would help pay off debt quicker, and they can try to negotiate for a lower amount for the medical debt.💙💙
