Been NEEDINGGGGG this video thank you so much. I've had a f30 340 for 2 years now and after a couple track days this is definitely the one upgrade this car is in need of.
this is a good tutorial that not a lot of ppl are willing to put out. if you make more than 500whp in one of these cars, this is the first mod you should be doing!
Kern good you went for the M-Performance plated diff. I installed and OS GIKEN LSD on my M140i 4 months ago. Hands done the best mod I have done to my cars. Guys do you self a favor if you go for an LSD always take a plated one. It makes the car so much more predictable. All those torsen ATB diffs are better for FWD.
new music freestye at the end, cool surprised this differential does not connect to any sensors or something electronic, just a swap will be looking forward the other video you mentioned about the differences and the benefits (pros/cons)
I used 2 pry bars to remove my axles from the diff. Took hardly any force, maybe it worked better because it pulls the shaft out square. I also removed the left side control arms to make removing the diff easier.
Great video! Do you know if the removal/install is the same/similar for the F22 M235i (N55) RWD/Manual platform? I've been looking for a DIY video that doesn't just state that it's not recommended because you don't have BMW's special $800 tool to remove the axle shafts lol. Thanks!
I just did this to a 2018 340i 6mt at the time of ordering there were two manual LSD's left in stock, one in PA and the other in TX. I guess one of those came to me. Also when ordering I quoted the price off getbmwparts and got the diff for 2200 and change. Edited to ask what you did for 'break in'. Lot's of conflicting info, i ended up doing 20 figure 8's and then 20 circles at idle left and right. I then de-tuned the car back to MPPSK and after 500 miles will give it the full potatoes.
Got the confidence to do this on my garage floor thanks to your video and also watched it a lot during the install process. Have you already replaced the fluid from the initial "break-in" period? I'm seeing anywhere from 500-1500 miles being recommended.
@@kern417 I want to get a mperf lsd on my 440i down the line, but I always feared the installation since you can’t unscrew the axles from the diff but seeing you do this on jack stands without much issue makes me think doing this on a lift will be a piece of cake
Ah I forgot to mention. What oil did you put? You should really change oil around 500 miles. The standard BMW Oil gear oil is what BMW recommends. However that’s wayyy to thin specially because the diff get much hotter then the standard open diff. I advise to put Motul 75w140 or even better OS GIKEN LSD oil 80w250. If you run the diff with the standard BMW oil you gonna wear out the clutch pack in 50k miles. So put thicker oil and change the diff oil at least once a year. Specially when tracking the car. Cheers!
