    People are saying it's cheaper to buy a real football table than the LEGO one.
    If you're buying real Ferraris instead of the LEGO ones I'll fully support your claims 💪
    Edit: 7/12/2022
    These remarks have been getting mixed reactions and I totally get it, the argument is super silly to begin with and I'll be the first to admit it.
    But to put more words into this, I just feel the comparison between this set and a real table shouldn't be made.
    You're buying into a completely different experience, it allows for customisation, it has tons of minifigures (if you care about that) you can build it yourself and you can use the pieces for a lot more stuff than just playing the game if you take the set apart.
    It's the same with the Globe, the Typewriter the NES, the flower sets and probably others. If you wanted the real objects you could always get them for a LOT cheaper, but you get the LEGO versions because you want something else entirely right? So how can you compare two objects that don't fulfil the same purpose?
    I'm not defending the set in any way whatsoever. Like I mentioned in the video there's things I like about it and there's things I don't like about it. If you want amazing LEGO sets there's plenty out there, I'm making a video about it as we speak. But at the same time there's been far worse releases than the table football which I made sure to make perfectly clear in my reviews for those of you claiming I'm totally biased and love everything LEGO puts out.

      An actual foosball table top game can be had for well under 200 USD. Love me some Lego, but this definitely misses the mark as a playable product, and is much more a display piece with some play functions.

    As a football fan, I do want to have this set, but at this price point it is reasonable to expect 22 outfield players rather than 10. I have no problem with them including extra players and parts; in fact they add to the appeal to the set, but they need to be stored in a better way than having a separate section that has to take up an extra chunk of display space. At this point, a juicy discount is needed to push me over the fence.

It did have the full set of players, but you couldn't twist the knobs without pulling up the bricks. It was terrible.
    The scoreboard seems like it would be better by using flag on a pole. When you get a goal, flip a flag down or up. The choice they went with is bizarre. Anyone that's worked with Technic enough should know those elements are used for fixed positions, not sliding elements. Even a kid that grew up building Bionicle figures could've told them that.

    I do have an issue that to meet the predefined price they thrown in so much unnecessary stuff. I sure see the value for minifig collectors, but then wouldn't it have been much better as two separate sets? @@Eidolon1andOnly If it really went (or cared) for the inclusiveness and representation rout, then it should have been a cheaper set to promote such ideals (or just split the football table and colorful audience into different sets to have cheaper two options). Stuff like "Everyone is Awesome" set is a good example of doing it right, 11 colorful Lego printless minifigures (pieces we never got in these colors), presented well and being sold originally for around 35 dollars. You can repurpouse all the new rainbow recolors in a much more affordable price range. The Football table set has all these honestly neat minifigure variants, but they are utterly wasted on such an expensive set, making it even harder for actual PoC to "represent themselves" due to the high barrier to entry with the price range. And those that state "oh there is always bricklink", yeah but these one time set exclusive parts are just gonna have way larger prices on the aftermarket compared to parts from more affordable sets that more people are able to buy and then resell. This can be fixed by selling these new minifigure variants in more cheaper sets, but then it removes the biggest reason to even get the Football table. They could have done this with two $40 people pack sets consisting of 20-22 figs each, or any other kind of smaller, cheaper set. Personally I think it would be really cool for Lego to come up with an entirely new theme, similar to, but distinct from the Lego City theme, with a hyper attention to detail and realism, with sets designed to work together and be modular regardless of set size, where instead of the traditional yellow fig, all the figs have the more realistic fleshtones. Lego Friends and Elves has proven these skin tones can work in original IP themes. @@oddvegan9797 This is not about race. Potawadingdong is referring to the minifigure that has vitiligo. He thinks not many football players have vitiligo so there´s no reason for LEGO to go out it´s way to make a football player with vitiligo. I know many football players and I don´t know anyone who has vitiligo as bad as the minifigure. Potawadingdong probably doesn´t know vitiligo isn´t always that noticable, actually many great players had vitiligo for example: Romario, Ronaldinho and Jamie Carragher.
      Lego had to make the vitiligo very noticeable so everyone could regocnise it. I mean if it was just a white skin dude with even wither little spots I wouldn´t have recognised it. I think it´s great they did include it in this set, I mean they were already manufracturing the head it´s not like they had to design something new and the designing of the head increased the price of the set.

    This set is again another example of why I'm a little bit disappointed about LEGO IDEAS in the last time. The actual IDEAS set was far bigger and I would have not been interested in buying this, If I had voted for a pretty much different set. Same thing with the Motorised Lighthouse - different scale and size. I understand that LEGO needs to rework the sets, but those two sets have been reworked way too much in my opinion and therefore are no longer interesting for the group of people who picked it on the IDEAS website.
    The next problem with IDEAS - too many big and expensive sets are being released and the small ones are only given away as GWP, instead of really making them easily available for the fans.
    Personally, the Table Football is one of the least interesting sets released this year :/

    It's cool to justify this as a mini-table with lots of useful building parts if taken apart, but with thinking of LEGO in this way, its easy to justify it as "a set and lots of parts" but it should be "a set OR lots of parts". What would you really do with the $250 or so amount of parts with 20 minifigs in football clothes? It's cool if it stays as a table, but if you really wanted a mini football table, you can buy proper ones much more affordably, and the spare LEGO pieces here for MOCs seem much too expensive to buy just for parts.

    This set should have been canceled. Way too much time and resources were spent on making the table semi-functional, while making silly compromises which detract from both its playability and its value as a display piece, just to keep the high price. The inclusion of all the minifig pieces was unnecessary as this is supposed to be a foosball table, not a football/soccer pitch. There was no need for realistic minifig fleshtones and hair styles. The set is actually more expensive than full sized, fully playable foosball tables. The idea should have been scrapped when they realized they couldn't make a larger playable table, and moved on to making other, better collectible or playable sets. It is a bad set as it is way too expensive to be treated as a toy/table sport game, and way too small and plain to be an eyecatching conversation piece as a display, with no universal or specific appeal.

      @@Bionickpunk I completely agree, especially when you realize this idea had already been threatened with cancellation during its design process at least three separate times according to those who worked on the project. The only positive thing I can say about this set was that is a completely original idea which didn't require Lego to work out a licensing agreement with an intellectual property owner. Lego already has 40+ licensing agreements with auto manufacturers to Hollywood studios, and even other toy companies like Hasbro. These licenses are driving up the cost of every Lego set regardless of theme to offset the cost of the licenses and retain a healthy profit margin. The sad thing is that there seems to be no end in sight with this trend of selling licensed products as mindless consumers keep demanding more.

  • @Mark_LaCroix

    Regarding the extra minifigures, perhaps it was particularly important for the designer(s) to depict Football as a global, highly diverse culture, and felt strongly enough about it that Lego was okay inflating the cost of the set to preserve that aspect. The complaints about it seem to forget that the design of these sets have multiple competing considerations and there's no one answer to balancing them.
    Regarding the score-keeping element. I suspect they used the difficult-to-move part for display purposes. It's still technically movable, but it can be stable if the user wants it to be, compared to the alternate piece you recommended. I agree with your argument, but I'm guessing that was their reason.
    The one thing that I wished it had was a hole or ramp or something to drop the ball onto the field. One thing people always try to do on real foosball tables is sneakily influence the way the ball enters the field, so it's odd that a set with so much play utility ignored that aspect.

I did find that the axles had started to bend quite easily due to the extensive use there though, hopefully that's less apparent in normal use situations. It did surprise me how incredibly close this got to the actual game but, the price... It's nowhere near enough to justify as this really is just a novelty item and let's be honest, who asked for a functional LEGO football table? As a MOC concept it's really cool but as a set... well, this is what you get. Too bad.

  • @darkroy610
    @darkroy610 Рік тому +3

    It's cool, but at first glance it looks like it should cost 50 bucks. Then when you look closer and realize that it's quite sturdy, a price of 100 bucks is more likely. Then you look at the piececount and consider that it'll probably cost 150 to 180. That would be somewhat reasonable, and I would want to wait for discounts or good gifts from Lego to actually buy it.
    But then they suddenly add the crazy price Policy of Lego and end up on 250? No. Just No. I really like the idea, the playful disgn, and the look of it, but I won't give lego 70€ extra which the product isn't worth. Rather spend the money on something with a better value then.

Sometimes (like the UCS ISD) you can see them even from the outside. This is an outrage for every MOCer, and creating own ideas was the original intention of Lego.
      What possible reason can that have to include inappropriate colors and stickers, except cutting costs? For a set that costs so much money, that is really a cheap move.
      Moreover, I noticed an alarming development of more scratched and off color pieces. The Lamborghini Sian and the Fiat 500 were notorious for that.
      Other brick producers like Cobi or Cada also have their problems, but their price tags aren't that high. If you take premium prices, you should deliver premium quality.

      This one isn’t really that bad in that regard. Take a look at the UCS landspeeder and you’ll cry lol. As for stickers what are you talking about? This set doesn’t have stickers

    • @Nikioko
      @Nikioko Рік тому +1

      @@TiagoCatarino When I recall my childhood, the Lego sets back then didn't have all these colors, and there were a lot more parts to add per building step. But I had no real problems building the 8850 Car Chassis or the 8855 Prop Plane as a 10-year-old. You can't put this set into a showcase with glass shelves, because the bottom looks like an exploded rainbow.
      It doesn't apply to this set, but I mentioned stickers, because this set has prints at spots where you will never see them, while other high price sets have tons of stickers instead. In contrast, Cobi claim for their Historical Collection to have no stickers and all parts pad printed. And that includes edges of plates, if necessary. Why is this possible in Poland, but not in Denmark?
      And yes, mistakes happen while building. But they happen with or without multiple colors. This can also mean that you have to partly disassemble your progress, but that is part of the experience. But as a child, I learned very quickly in which properties part vary, e.g. that there are Technic axles in different lengths or that there is a difference between Technic pins with and without friction. I wonder why, today, customers shouldn't be able to distinguish a 2×3 plate from a 2×4 plate any more. Especially when we are talking about an 18+ set.
      I don't want to talk things bad. But this set (and other recent sets) has issues that should be addressed. And the main design error is that the players at the middle line are not facing each other. How do you kick off if nobody is facing the ball? I am certainly not alone with my criticism. You already mentioned the issue with the goal counter, which could be fixed so easily.
