I upgrade cards when I find a good deal and I can’t pass it up. ‘92 Fleer Ultra is also one of my favorite sets. Between it and ‘91 Stadium Club, they blew my young collecting mind.
I also have been a member of the Hall of Fame for many years. I live a lot closer than you, so I have made it a point to attend to the Hall of Fame at least once every year. I always buy in at the $250 level. Gives me a few more items, such as whatever logo apparel clothing they choose for that year.A big part of my collecting hobby is going to the Hall of Fame every year to see what I can find. Great showcase. Thanks for sharing.
Good content. Part of the fun in collecting other than the nostalgia is the hunt. So hunting for a better grade for a reasonable price can be fun too. No rules in collecting
The only time Ive upgraded PSA cards is if I submit cards and beat out what I had. Im near completion of my 1979 Topps Auto'd set (only missing 15 of the 777 autos required). There are 25 or so I got that were signed in pen, or bought where the auto was faint but needed gor my set. Plan on finding another in sharpie.
When Chris from Missouri sees the title of your video, he will be shaking in his boots! 🤣🤣🤣Congrats on the new additions and upgrades, Mike! Heck yeah, I would upgrade if the price is right. Or, if something about a card is bugging me, I might just upgrade my way right out of that copy! 😊👊
Nice Mike! I upgrade only if the deal is worth it for me. But if it speaks to me I get it then move my old card to supplement the cost. Every bit helps.🙂 Thanks for sharing Nice idea on becoming a member of the HOF! Possible bday gift to myself! Haha
Hi Mike, thanks for the mention and I do love those Nolan Ryan cards. Congrats on the upgrades. The Fleer Ultra cards are beautiful. When you get time, I think it would be cool if you show them. Thanks for sharing.
Great stuff, Mike. Would I upgrade? Yes, and for the reasons you stated (not to go up half a grade, or 1 grade point, but at least 2-3 points). That said, not all grades are deserving of their grade - which is where your own knowledge comes in, to determine whether the card you're looking to add to your collection is undergraded, or at least deserving of the grade ascribed to it. Nice to see that they've found a great home. 👍
Great cards, Mike! I try not to upgrade ever, but I find myself upgrading way more often than I'd like! I agree it's an expensive proposition. I would really just rather buy the right card once, but it doesn't always happen that way. Unfortunately!😂😂
I've bought so many low-level cards from 4 Sharp. Love that they have stuff from all years of all players, and not 10x overpriced like most sellers on ebay.
Great Nolan’s Mike. I don’t often upgrade unless it’s a smaller card. I don’t ever see myself upgrading my Nolan rookie from a 7 to an 8 or a 9 because of the price jump but if it’s a card like Nolan’s 87 Topps, then it’s more feasible. But in general, I’m just happy to have the card in my collection
I've upgraded cards in sets to make the set more similar-- have just done it with ungraded cards. It looks like that is similar to what you are doing, just that yours are different kind of sets (player runs, or HOF's from a set) and are graded. I think it makes complete sense!
I very rarely upgrade for the same reason. I really only do it when something falls in my lap. I’d rather buy what I’ll be happy with the first time/spend my money on something I dont have yet as opposed to upgrading for sure 👍🏻
I think those make all the sense in the world to upgrade, given the cost. However, you might consider just using the others as gifts to friends, given the time and trouble, and low value you'll likely get selling them.
I'll usually upgrade if I'm unhappy with the current card in the grade. For example, if the card is a PSA 4 but looks a little too off center, registration is off or something like that, I may upgrade to a better eye appeal 4, or maybe a 5 but a "high-end" 5. That way the card gets a big upgrade but the cost usually isn't too much higher.
If you could upgrade the way you did, then it’s absolutely perfect. Spending about 10 bucks a card to get a much higher grade on a Hall of Fame player is always a no-brainer. It’s only when you’re trying to get the highest grade possible and have to consider spending hundreds of dollars or thousands of dollarsthat it doesn’t make much sense. I approve. Thanks for sharing.
Nice upgrades for the money spent....I generally get the top grade upfront but my collection is nowhere near the size of yours. I wouldn't use more than 2 drawers of the Beast
I don’t necessarily like to upgrade but I do it, I think kind of like what you did with the cheap factor. I am tighter than a duck’s ass and that’s waterproof!
I would be upgrading my eovaldi and Seager cards as a rangers fan. I have a ton of eovaldi cards autos and rookies. Always like the dude. These are all cards from my prime age as a kid collecting. I have a massive task ahead. I have to go thru things. My prime collecting years were 1980-1987 all 4 sports. I stopped in high school and college . Went back to it after my kids were older about 15 years ago. I always looking for multiples and upgrades if I like the player. I think mcgriff and Smoltz were only two Braves I’ve ever liked and loved. Seager, freeman and Harper are games top 3 players right now imho
I don't get the mindset for this. You pay $15 for cards worth 25 cents. All of this to compete in a registry who's top prize is biggest waste of money, statistically. Congrats!
I’ll never forget when 1992 Fleer Ultra was released. Outside of Upper Deck, we were all obsessed with that shiny gloss! ⚾️⭐️🔥
I upgrade cards when I find a good deal and I can’t pass it up. ‘92 Fleer Ultra is also one of my favorite sets. Between it and ‘91 Stadium Club, they blew my young collecting mind.
Totally agree. Those were some incredible sets.

Nice pickups, Mike. I figure if it makes a person happy upgrading, go for it.

I think that is a good way to look at it.
Nice upgrades . fleer ultra’s was one of my favorite products growing up 😊. Nice membership perks with the hof
Great cards, Mike! I try not to upgrade ever, but I find myself upgrading way more often than I'd like! I agree it's an expensive proposition. I would really just rather buy the right card once, but it doesn't always happen that way. Unfortunately!😂😂
Nice looking upgrades! I only upgrade unintentionally when I buy lots for my sets I'm working on and get doubles.
I've bought so many low-level cards from 4 Sharp. Love that they have stuff from all years of all players, and not 10x overpriced like most sellers on ebay.
Good for you Mike. Very nice

Where did you get the tshirt?

I am glad to hear that you approve RJ.
@ Naturally! 😊
Hall of Fame membership....plus you have access to John Keating's basement...what more do you need Mike??
I have a small collection of around 50 graded cards and all I do is upgrade them
Nice upgrades for the money spent....I generally get the top grade upfront but my collection is nowhere near the size of yours. I wouldn't use more than 2 drawers of the Beast
They were all cheap like Borscht and great cards . Yes it's worth it to me.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Baseball Hall of Fame have reciprocal entry agreements. Membership in one will get you entry in both.
I don’t necessarily like to upgrade but I do it, I think kind of like what you did with the cheap factor. I am tighter than a duck’s ass and that’s waterproof!

I buy cards as if they are my forever card. I will upgrade only if my original is a beater card
u need to go to the nergo hall of fame
I have been there. It is very cool. I wish it was bigger.

@@Retro_Fan The good news is that you don’t have to get the mindset for the way I like to collect
