Even my mom drinks it, tho she fills it up into a empty bottle and then drinks it from there.

If you do have unclean water that is one way around it. You can also buy water purification kits online that come with chemicals and water pouch. The chemical makes all the floating particulates fall to the bottom leaving clear water behind. You still have to boil the water though to kill the bacteria in it.
When I was in spain for vacation, we bought water in, I think 10L, plastic bottles. If you buy multiple of them, you are good for a while! Most of the tap water I saw there had chlorine in it to avoid bacteria and stuff forming in the hot pipes in the summer. (Don't know though if locals would do the same)

They are probably thinking that its grey water (Water that isnt storm or sewage, but is not safe for drinking). While a lot of toilets in Japan use a grey water system, its not the taps themselves as that is (in almost all places) sourced from the same water main pipe that is also servicing nearby businesses, including their tap water for drinking. The grey water system in Japanese toilets is a water saving method, water used in the sink is recycled into the tank of the toilets. So the water in the toilet is very unsafe (as if it wasn't already), but the taps themselves are fine to drink from. However a lot of people would shy away from those as floating particles may have settled on the metal and spread through the water residue in the taps. If you are unsure and in a metro area, run the water for a second or two, then fill up. Or ask a local cafe or similar if they can refill your water bottle, that will most of the time work.

Public toilet water refill: Honestly, I can't fully understand why they seem so mad - surprised maybe, but mad? Yes, if I have the option to drink normal tap water or drinks, I will do that. But why buy a small 0.3L drink for 6-10€ at a convention or when traveling, when refilling works perfectly fine as well? You just have to be sure, that in the region/country you are in, it is safe to drink water straight from the public tap.

I don't think she's referring to fountains. lmao Public restroom sinks aren't sanitized as often, and are placed in a small room with a toilet. The water you fill your bottle with is all but guaranteed to be contaminated by waste particles and bacteria. It's clean enough to wash your hands with, but outside of emergency situations, you should never use them for drinking water.

Tap water here from South East Asia has a weird property.
If drink it there's 97% chance of food poisoning the the remaining 3% will decrease as you keep not getting poisoned but after surving it and you'll gain permanent recistance to Hacahama cooking....

People are fine washing their hands and rinsing them off in the bathroom sink... but the second someone grabs a cup of water from the same sink... its suddenly an issue
Well tap water, while it is safe to drink in alot of countries. It's full of minerals and chlorine that makes it taste bad.

@@BlakeGrifter it is. It's in city water aswell because it kill bacteria and viruses. It's a much smaller amount than what's in a pool. There's also a legal amount of lead that can be in tap water in the US.

If you are unsure of the water, wherever you are; either boil it for at least 20 minutes, or bring purification tablets with you when traveling.
They also make kits for purification that come with a pouch and purification powder.

Where I live, it is best to avoid drink straight from the tap unless you have a filter attached as our water isn't that great.
I actually leanred about the water thing during the Hawaii segment of Persona 5. Poor Mishima destroys his stomach drinking water from the tap because Japan has soft water and America has hard water

Yes, if I have the option to drink normal tap water or drinks, I will do that. But why buy a small 0.3L drink for 6-10€ at a convention or when traveling, when refilling works perfectly fine as well?
You just have to be sure, that in the region/country you are in, it is safe to drink water straight from the public tap.
Ok but you got to remember though It’s a public toilet there could be anything in that sink and no matter what country you’re in those bathrooms aren’t always clean. Also I think they were referring to getting water from the washing hands sinks and not a actual refill station but I could be wrong

Public restroom sinks aren't sanitized as often, and are placed in a small room with a toilet. The water you fill your bottle with is all but guaranteed to be contaminated by waste particles and bacteria.
It's clean enough to wash your hands with, but outside of emergency situations, you should never use them for drinking water.
