ah, seeing you out and about with your adorable red winter hat just makes me smile Ana. You and Brian always convey a warm, gentle, and hopeful way of living. Maybe humanity will somehow survive through all this madness. You guys can show us the way!
For many years I've always avoided all the craziness of the holiday season and use the time to enjoy solitude and quiet. I used to get lonely but as I've aged I've come to enjoy my own company very much. I am grateful for what I have.

I think that is the perfect idea! I know when my family was struggling financially (badly) we were lucky enough to only buy a package of hot dogs for $1 after our bills were paid and that was because my husband and I picked up recyclable ♻️ cans in the snow. You do not know how good those hot dogs tasted after a hard day of collecting cans in snow. In my opinion in these tough times you have to do whatever it takes to get buy. THERE IS NO SHAME IN THAT!👍 work is work there are days that I am so happy that people who have the money drink soda and booze.

I have the same Advent Tea❤ so nr7 is LOVE ME TRULY ORGANIC CHAI SPICE TEA WITH CINNAMON, GINGER & CLOVE. Is true, sometimes they're not as good as you'd like. This year I discovered a special version of "winter tea": 2 liters of water, 2 whole oranges sliced, 1 lemon sliced, a lot of ginger cleaned and cut into small slices, to boil for 10 minutes. Then add 2 black tea bags and steep for 5 minutes, sugar and honey to taste. I like it very much hot and cold.
I add 2 spoons of honey and 2 tablespoons of brown sugar.

Hi Anna, no gift buying this year seems an eminently sensible idea for you and Brian. I agree that it doesn't mean you won't be able to have a festive holiday. My husband doesn't come from a gift buying culture or one of celebrating the holidays in a big way. I do but have scaled back every year for several years now. I buy few gifts and many of them are hand made. If I give someone a gift it is usually a small one and something they can use and not add to clutter. Wishing you and Brian a beautiful holiday. 🎄🎄🎄

When I was a child in the UK in the 60s, advent calendars had only little pictures beind the doors!
Nowadays, only the children in the family are given presents, but we make donations to charities that help homeless people to have a nice Christmas and help to improve tgeir lives.

What a nice video !! It's amazing I bought exactly the same tea calendar but in Swiss ! And When I saw it on the video I stopped and made the same tea. There was other fancy tea caöendar but they had much more cardboard and where more expensive. My first advent calendar was also a chocolate one with cardboard all around. It represented a house with 24 windows. It was milk chocolate that I don't like much and had nearly no taste but I was happy to get one each day. They had Xmas shape like snowman, Xmas tree, present... This is what we can offer one another for Xmas not a present but THE present being there together sharing a moment tant we'll remember. I started making presents of present a long time ago... Time put in making and writting a card, 2 tickets entrance to the SPA to go with my sister, a bag of home made biscuits de la joie... One year I gave my mom some if my time... I put a hundred little papers in a jar with chores for me to make (on top of chores I was already doing) I choose to give her time for her. I'll have very few gifts this year but the present of my long distance BF coming to visit me. I bought him a game that I know we'll play together a lot aswe both like playing a lot. I asked him for a box of chocolate... To match my gift to him. We'll share our mutual presents and for sure a wonderfull moment. I dream of that moment each day and it'll be a wonderfull memory. I will make myself a present too as I do for each Xmas and birthday as I have almost no more ascendants ! One day trip to an unknown city...

I've had several tea advent calendars over the years, as they're quite popular here. Last year I had the brand you have and was a bit disappointed, as very few tasted good to me. I had another that was a bit better the year before, and this year I have a Moomin tea calendar and so far, it's been the best I've had! I think maybe next year I'll put one together of my own (and some to gift...).
As we've got older, gift-giving has become less important. These days I usually knit something for my closest family and maybe add something small - right now I'm knitting some warm tweed socks for one of my sons-in-law and will push a good salami into them for gifting, as I know he'll enjoy it with a nice glass of wine (maybe we'll consume that as a family, maybe not...!). My eldest daughter's socks will have a narrow pack of coloured pencils I think she'll like using. Just examples of what we enjoy doing for each other. Much more important is the coming together of the family, as we are 4 generations and despite a few introverts, it's good fun to spend time enjoying the season, especially now we have my mom so close by. I think the gifts are most important for the school age children, but we do only give one each, as it can get out of hand! The younger children are also happy with homemade trinkets, they are already in awe of our low-key seasonal decorations...

I think advent calenders is a Scandinavian tradition. It has been nice to see it spread more internationally in the last decade or so.
That is also how my December starts: Putting up my son's advent calender, which is an embroidered wall hanging with 24 loops for presents. I usually put candy or a message about what we will do that day.
We also have an advent calender with the numbers 1-24 that we light energy morning while we eat breakfast.

Your first experience with Advent calendars was exactly the same as mine! 😂
Here in Croatia, Christmas holidays are becoming more and more westernized/americanized each year; it's sad to see our traditional ways of celebrating being replaced with this completely foreign and consumerism-centered parade (sorry for being so negative 😅) My family and I like to keep things really simple and cozy - our decorations are minimal but cute, we make our Advent wreaths using materials we find in the nature, we bake cakes, make mulled wine... The most important thing is that we're together and in good health, presents don't matter much to us, but if we do buy gifts, they're usually in the form of books, tea or chocolate 🙂
With all that being said, I wish you and Brian a happy, healthy, warm and cozy holiday season! ✨

But Easter we celebrate like the rest of the Orthodox communities
"Paka-paka" could be the root of ,,pa"/ ,,pa-pa" in Romanian 😊 we have some Slavic words ourselves, you could have given that label a try as a fun experimental game 😊

I have the same Tea Advent Calender 🥰🌈 here in Germany they are available from all the differentbrands. So next year I will try another brand. The cool thing is also that they're putting their normal selled teas inside the calendars so you get one bag of each tea the brand has to offer and you can choose to buy a whole package of a tea or not ;)

Hi Ana, It has been some time since I commented on a video, just busy. I do like your "no gift Christmas". At a certain point in our lives, we really have everything we might want or need, and giving/receiving presents that only add more stuff to the walls or book cases, does not really serve. My partner and I have been together 13 years now, and it seems that each year we scale down our gift giving a bit more. This is a wonderful season of the year and there are so many things to enjoy about the festivities going on from various faith traditions, that the historic and hectic commercialism of Christmas just seems to get in the way of the wonder and joy of the season. Seasons Greetings and all the best to you and Brian. Peace.

Hi Ana, Love Me Truly is actually a "chai", so you can make it with hot milk and sugar and this way it 's even tastier! From this brand I only buy this one, because I love it so much. I prepare it with oat milk and some cane sugar.

I so enjoyed this video. I had another idea about your metaphor at the end, related to my own experience of drinking herbal teas that are very healthy, but not necessarily delicious: just because something doesn’t feel enjoyable at the time, does not mean it is not doing you good in the long term. Obviously this doesn’t apply to everything, but for me it does apply to things like working hard on an assignment, or exercising particularly vigorously sometimes ahaha.

I am not exchanging gifts with anyone this year. I already don't have money to go from week to week. And I work full time. The US is completely ridiculous. Of course, Christmas isn't only about gifts. It's nice to know I'm not the only one not gifting, though I'm sad about it.

candles. All the atmosphere, none of the expense - how the Germans do it, they celebrate "Advent" the season, not full focus on one present-giving day, which ruins it. Christmas films are good too
but for me, they give out free book catalogues with excerpts in the bookshop and it's free and then i read it and i have to have so many books.....
