You are dumb the title of the wired video is “Why it’s almost impossible to solve a Rubik’s cub in under 3 seconds” you should’ve read the title of the video before typing this unfunny comment
I have to say I really liked the frame by frame part as well. It’s cool to see the slow recon, but seeing the frame by frame really puts it in perspective. Nice job
I'm amazed and thankful that decent footage even exists of this solve to allow for recon and verification. There must also be so many eyes on Ruihang at this point if someone was filming them (though it might just well be the people they went with). Just amazing.
Woah, he's so lucky, actually he did do cross in about 0.9s and there're 4 F2L things already. Next thing is, he did OLL in about 1s and skipped PLL. His hand is kinda fast tho. P/s:Been watching 0.25x slower.
When the first people started cubing (with Rubik's prototype), nobody even knew if there would always be a solution for every scramble. Imagine how long the first solve in history must have taken!
This solve could've been like 1.4 - 1.5 secs if he recognized the skip. That's where I think world records for cubing end. I think the real physical limit for the fastest time to solve a rubik's cube is 1.3 seconds
Question on the Friedrich method: What is the probability after the OLL "Roosters" of falling out of the same PLL, for example, "Sledge". According to mathematical laws, the same PLL should always fall out after the same OLL. Have such statistics been conducted? Or do completely different PLLs always fall out after the same OLL ?
I think it is high time scramble standards are introduced. Yes, Ruihang Xu is an awesome cuber, no doubt. However, the common thread with all these super fast solves is actually the scramble being such that it is even possible. Any of the top cubers would have likely done a sub 3 second solve on that scramble, so how meaningful, as an individual achievement is this time really? Or is it really just being the lucky one out of the worlds top cubers to get that scramble? There is a mathematical measure known as the measure of disorder. That is, a calculation of the degree to which a scramble is not only disordered with respect to the solved configuration, but also with respect to the pieces in relation to each other once scrambled. The problem is that we are looking only at the degree of disorder with respect to the solved position and not with respect to the scrambled position. That is to say that a scramble that lines up all F2L pairs for you, can in theory have those pairs located on the scrambled cube such that it is maximally disordered with respect to a solved cube. This the pieces are not disordered with each other, therefore making an easy solve. Computationally, it is not that difficult to produce scrambles that are maximally disordered both with respect to the solved state and within the scrambled state. So, the lack of ensuring that competition level scrambles are optimally scrambled, suggests that the world cubing organisations are motivated to maintain level of excitement and hype and momentum created by ever lower 3x3 times, and going to an optimal scramble model would be a massive setback to the now multi-million dollar industry, and great consternation to record keepers and competition organisers. However, if this change is not made, the credibility of the achievements of cubers will gradually erode as people increasingly attribute these amazing times to the poor quality of the scrambling algorithms, rather than the personal achievements of the cubers. Ultimately, this could lead to a lose of confidence in the legitimacy of cubing competitions from both participants and the general public. So, for all cubers out there, please consider putting pressure on the world cubing association to reform the scrambling methodology before its too late. Thanks for reading this.
