Question, is there any reason why you used the 1/2" plywood and not 1X4s...seem pretty close to the same.

Not sure the kind of ply he used, but the reason you'd want to use quality ply like Baltic birch instead of thin construction lumber is that the 1x4 will split where you screw/nail easier than the ply. you might be fine, but lots of folks like to be extra careful. Best bet before you buy all the supplies you need is to buy and try.

We originally got the idea from @Jarrod Tocci from Ghost Van. The 1/2 plywood we used is pressure treated. This made it a lot easier to get the curvature of the van and we saved a lot of money by cutting our own studs.
