I know I'm late to the show, but I think the concern of early sugar being carried out comes from dry sugar. Later in the winter, there's enough humidity in the hive to wet the sugar making it more recognizable as food. If course, if you spray water on the sugar, as you do, I think that serves the same purpose and keeps it from being carried out. Keep up the good work! I sure enjoy your videos!

hello jim went into winter with 17 colonies and all of them made it through winter .put sugar on them 3 times.bigining spring they still had a top box full of honey.Im going into winter with 29 colonies this year.27 colonies has not touched the sugar yetand2 of them ate it all have already put more on them.thanks for the interest.your friend kellar
I also put sugar on early November and they are all working on it. I will probably have to add more on a warm day in January if we have one here in NJ. I make sugar cakes with honey bee healthy.
out of 29 colonies ive had to add more sugar to 2 of them.gonna check again here shortly and add if nessasary. put sugar on 3 times last winter and first of spring, still had a butt load of honey left which was great for spring splits. thanks for the interest
