I know this is an old video, but I just bought this mic holder and the Grip On Device holder and I am blown away!!! I'm mainly using it for to hold my iPad for remote control of Cubase from any keyboard setup in my home studio. Very very sturdy!!! Love your review!!! :)
Different....fun........thank you over the years of micing my wrap around drumset, I have had these problems......They use to have heavy round base models that worked....glad to see this one....good job
Hi Aimee the Pro line T bar which is used for tighten the bar that holds the mic. When you over tighten and you can hear that squeaking sound you compress and damage the spacer which is the black powder you were talking about. The tripod leg system is the cheaper way of building stands today it would seem. I too have a problem getting them to fit as needed especially when micing up a drum kit. The new stand is far better and you don't want to test the rigidity of the stand with excess weight as this could affect the strength of the arm swivel. Good video Thanks.
Good to know about the powder...but I don’t know about “over-tightening.” I only tighten things when they aren’t getting the job done. As for the excess weight, I’m sure you are right. Of course it was a one-time thing just for the sake of an interesting/fun video. 😏
Hahaha! Loved the introducing the contenders bit. So funny! And have to say it, adorable! Also, I want one of those... I have the same pos you had and have been bit!
Fun video - and I don't even have use for a mic stand. I think the black powder is powdered graphite lubricant. I've got it in some of my door hinges and I've used it to lubricate my front door key lock (It came in a little spray can and when I sprayed it into the key hole most of it "backfired" and I ended up with most of it all over my face. Ugh.) I can see how you might not want to carry around a 16 pound base and thought of my backyard umbrella stand - you fill it with water to make it heavy enough to hold the umbrella. I wonder if that would be practical?
LOL, I just ordered a new mic stand... got a cheap one with a round base, and gator boom. I have another gator and i like that it doesn't slip with a heavy condenser mic on it.
A highly entertaining review! I almost choked on my dinner laughing so hard. Here is another great line of mic/camera/lighting (you name it) stands & accessories that are built to last. Pricey, but I think worth it. Perhaps you can wangle your way to review their products in the future: www.triad-orbit.com/

i don't like the triangle leg bases because someone is bound to step on it and break it.
I'll check out your recommendation for a stand.
