My Father proposed to my Mother at Pimlico. Then off they went to the Justice of the Peace. My Mom rode English in Central Park and my Dad learned Cavalry from my Grandfather. My Mom adored Seabiscuit. Rest In Peace Mom and Dad.
My dad paulino " pablo "ortiz trained affirmed!!! I love u dad!!! He doesnt get much credit. Laz was in hospital at the time with heart problems. If u look at tv clips my dad is right in front affirmed walking him to Belmont's stakes race!!! I love u dad :) my mother jean ortiz walked affirmed alot to. I have affirmed pic smaller version of it at house when he won 1979 Hollywood gold cup and my mom pic with valdez who broke lotntrack records in cali. And my dad has pic when he won Santa anita with affirmed and him next affirmed in pic.
@EquusStar Thank you very much for watching and for your comment! Did you know that today would have been Secretariat's 41st birthday? I think that the National Museum of Racing does a great job of celebrating his legacy.
The first race that my daddy bet for me at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack I actually won. I bought a pair of tennis shoes with my winnings. I've been hooked every since then. I was about 11 years old.
This might be the only time that you see a young man here in the comments. It's so sad that horse racing is dying amongst the new generations.... R.I.P. horse racing.... What an awesome sport though. Thanks for the wonderful upload. It was very educational.
While yes, he was also under a new jockey, and war admiral had also been trained on a bell start while seabiscuit had not yet been trained on a bell start.
WHAT, A horse race museum, anywhere in OUR world, without Windfield Farms' Canadian bred Northern Dancer??? Once the World's #1 Breeder of Stakes Winners. Windfields "Featuring Northern Dancer." The Kentucky Derby's record breaking, and the first bonafide Derby's “the greatest two minutes in sports” achiever!!! Who for 16 of his years, at Windfield's Maryland Farm produced the world's most dominating thoroughbred's. Our Northern' like no other athlete in the History Of Sports. HAS ACTUALLY CHANGED the Thoroughbred Breed, and the history of the centuries old Sport Of Kings... Canada's Athlete Of The Year in 1965, has also forever changed the future of his sport. There NEVER had been, nor FOREVER WILL BE??? Another athlete to accomplish in any sport; What our 'Dancer had. and still achieves through his Prodigy!!! ALL over the world... Still to this day over 90% of the Thoroughbred Breed itself; And MORESO for its CHAMPIONS, either Thoroughbreds on the flats or jumpers, at sales, breeding or racing, has Oshawa Ontario DNA. From their Northern Dancer bloodline. Our 'Dancers DNA that seems to still today, splice through his Prodigy's genes forever getting stronger; Carrying on Northern's Champion Prodigy!!! Not bad at all... For Our Northern Dancer. Who as a yearling himself in '62, NOBODY wanted "Too small for an athlete" they said. Until he forever changed the history of his Thoroughbred sport, like no other athlete. With mid 80's stud fees of ONE (1)$MILLION$ still far from even challenged today!!! They'll pay and had paid, up to almost now 30 years past his death. $Million$ more for A Thoroughbred(s) of HIS conformation and or Prodigy. Then they ever did, or even wanted to look at, over many centuries. Before Our Northern Dancer's and his Worldwide Prodigee dominance!!!
Thanks for your comment! The National Museum of Racing often has special exhibits. The "mission of the Official National Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame is to honor the achievements of those horses, jockeys, and trainers whose records and reputations have withstood the difficult test of time." I can't imagine how difficult the selection process must be!
He should also be in the AQHA Hall of Fame for what his git did for Quarter Horses in America! We had a Dancer colt in our barns in Washington State. Stolen at 6 months and disappeared, vanished.
Mac,I respect your opinion, none the less if you take a long look at swaps times then compare to other greats, weight carried, how each horse won, swaps was better ,6 furlongs at Washington park mid west , 107.4 under 130 pounds, under a tight hold, swaps head was bowed. 132.3 for a mile, one or the fastest mile times on dirt ever. 1and a sixteenth 139flat both this times were never broken at Hollywood park they out lived Hollywood park and swaps critics from the East, swaps 1and 5 eights miles is still a world record after 63yrs, swaps covered the 1and1half miles in 225.4 just 9 lengths off secretariats 224 time, the East never Pointed that out did they, shoemaker held SWAPS back to much , in this race, a mile in 136.1 swaps could have beaten 224 if shoemaker would've let swaps run to any of his better mile times, like 132.3 or 133.1 or 134 flat, he'd have had the 1and1half miles world record. I'm not saying secretariat at Hollywood park as a 4year old couldn't have ran a better time than swaps, I just want fans honest ones to see how great swaps was. Charlie Willingham the great horse trainer, said I've never seen a horse that could've beaten swaps at Hollywood park in 1956, l say except, secretariat. But not 19 horses who the blood horse magazine rated over swaps. Polls out of the East always rates swaps in a lower class of champions, that's because SWAPS was a California bread. End.
Agree wholeheartedly Frank, times with weight ... Stamped himself with 5 world records times & one equal world record are fact not fiction ... A tad underrated at 20 in blood horse, IMO too ...

I am glad that there is no longer any appetite for match races because it proves nothing but can end in tragedy as with the case with Ruffian. Match races are nothing more than a test of wills and a good speed horse always has decided advantages. Seabiscuit was brilliantly trained by Tom Smith for his match race with War Admiral and he tested the Admiral early and broke his will but Seabiscuit is certainly not the better horse. James Keeney
horses where NOT bred to be pushed to there limit running around in circles 40 miles an hour. Its obviesly not good on the horses bodys. Im not a peta person, I have just have owned and worked with horses before
Originally no, but thoroughbreds are so narrowly bred that in 200+ years they have become genetically different to standard bred horses. The inbreeding has certainly produced inherent weakness in certain areas but it is true to say that they ARE bred for racing around bends today
I don't disagree, however, they're already babied like never before and they break down more often. Problem is too many drugs have been introduced into the sport legally and has weakened the breed and their offspring.
jockey are shot the horses is the one doing all work they push way to throw in race run on bad hoofs, and brokening legs why in Hell being allow to keep doing it?_
Kudos Carrie Ashley. I agree. Six years ago I was fortunate enough to be in the position to adopt an OTTB. Retraining her turned out to be one of the most challenging and fulfilling experiences of my life. She loves her new job as a trail horse and I wouldn't trade her for a million dollars.
This museum does a fine job of glorifying a blaring history of greed and abuse at the expense of innocent animals who give everything they have. Thoroughbred racing has always been an incredibly cruel 'sport'. Whips, doping, unnatural living and working conditions, injuries, starting horses long before they are prepared to handle it either emotionally or physically. . . the list goes on and on. And these horses are (sometimes but not always--google "Ferdinand", a Kentucky Derby winner) the 'lucky' ones. Each year the Thoroughbred industry cranks out literally tens of thousands of new foals, only a small percentage of which will go on to earn their keep. Most of the rest of these magnificent creatures are hauled away to Canada or Mexico like trash. Thankfully, Thoroughbred racing is slowly going the way of the doo doo bird, and the end can't come soon enough.
By looks of it my mother Jean Ortiz made this moment before she died!!! She used to walk affirmed and was there when ruffian broke down!! All she says above are TRUE AND SHE KNEW what she was talking about!!
Horses are just beauty in motion. Cant imagine my life without them
This is a truly great museum. I have visited it more than once and appreciated it more each time.

Eagerly awaiting American Pharoah's induction, hopefully in 2020 or 2021.
@Syemaa We hope you can make it there. It's really a terrific place. Thanks for your comment!
@HorseRacingFan777 We do too! In fact, we've featured Secretariat at the Horse Power page on Great Museums' website!
Hope to visit the museum some day to pay respect to my big boy secretariat
This is a great museum and of course you can't mention every horse out there cause it would take hours.
The first race that my daddy bet for me at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack I actually won. I bought a pair of tennis shoes with my winnings. I've been hooked every since then. I was about 11 years old.

TEPPANYAKI LIFE WITH CHEF NINJA not sad at all. No more whipping horses or overbreeding looking for a “champion”
amazing museum I love going there
Nice video. Please remember, Seattle Slew beat Affirmed both times they met. The only meetings of Triple Crown winners racing against each other.
Is pharlap mentioned at all in the museum?i find American racing enthusiasts adopted pharlap as part of their racing heritage, which is nice
Just found out from my Uncle that my great great great grandfather was Matthew Byrnes what a honor to know
16:37 YES RUFFIAN ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Life without horses life would be nothing
seabiscuit was 5 years old, 2 yrs older than war admiral, a definite advantage for seabiscuit that is rarely mentioned.
While yes, he was also under a new jockey, and war admiral had also been trained on a bell start while seabiscuit had not yet been trained on a bell start.
1:38 to 1:42 what about barbaro zenyatta ruffian and many other great ones
They did mention the match race between Ruffian and Foolish Pleasure.
Zenyetta didn’t win a race against ruffian or any others she became a champ after ruffian

and now American Pharoah won the Triple Crown!!
They did not mention Barbaro either.
I will never go a horse race or radio or jump shows
Carrie ASHLEY *rodeo
I wish they would mention the full story on horse racing. 🙄

Jesse Zeus I hope your first language is not English, because your spelling is atrocious!
@@missyb9438 give it up,its jesus
0:15 you moron. The jockey is a skinny little midget who sits on a horse and whips it. No athletic ability whatsoever. The horse is the athlete.
The greatest racehorse ever is Barbaro.
His greatness was never seen sadly he died to soon.. Poor baby
horses should be banned from racing until the age of 3. fully mature
I don't disagree, however, they're already babied like never before and they break down more often. Problem is too many drugs have been introduced into the sport legally and has weakened the breed and their offspring.

Ferdinand should have been returned ti the States, not murdered in Japan.
