THANX AFTER 40 YEARS OF BEING THE BEST CAN YOU IMAGINE 911 WITHOUT NEWS 88 .THE CHOICE OF 1 STATION NOW IS RIDICULOUS. CIVIL DEFENSE I WAS LED TO BELIEVE RADIO PLAYED IMPORANT PART Thanx Wayne PAUL AND THE TEAM YOUR THE BEST!
WCBS was such an iconic station with its clear channel 50,000 watt signal bringing us the news 24/7. Can’t believe it’s gone. Guess I have to listen to WINS
Many people will not switch over to 1010. Instead they will switch over to either 710, 770, 820, or 1130. 710, 770, and 820 are general news/talk stations (710 and 770 are commercial stations while 820 is an NPR station) while 1130 is a business news station.
My Mom and Dad would tegularly listen to Jack Sterling, the pre-Newsradio88 WCBS morning guy [Monday through Saturday, as I recall] back when my family lived on Staten Island (early to mid-1960s)... on the kitchen radio during breakfast in our garden apartment, it was either Jack Sterling or Klavan & Finch on WNEW1130 (more often Sterling)
Glad you enjoyed it. Working on the final morning show with Wayne & Paul, & the final live news hour. Will post in the next day or 2. Hope you are doing ok.
Jessica Dragonette and Lanny Ross were in the Gulliver movie the Fleischer Brothers made in Miami. The song “It’s A Hap-Hap-Happy Day” was co-written by Winston Sharples, and when he became music director for Paramount Cartoon Studios (or Famous Studios), he used that song as often as he could!
@@TheBrooklynbodine I was wondering if WINS might pick it up, but if you think about it, why would they give up the inventory, and give those avails to CBS?
I read at wikipedia that WINS already has an affiliation with CBS News Radio, but i guess it's more for actualities (brief news reports) . They're also affiliated with ABC News Radio as well as Bloomberg Radio and Associated Press. I listen to CBS News on radio several times a day. I get WBBM online, and it carries a 5-minute newscast at the top of the hour. For some reason or another, I've always leaned to CBS News.
WABC stood for the Atlantic Broadcasting Company. In 1946, WABC became WCBS. When the Blue Network became the American Broadcasting Company, New York City's station was WJZ, but in 1953 the station was renamed, yup,WABC.
@@armorybrunotjr.3204 The WJZ calls went to Westinghouse's TV station in Baltimore. When the Blue Network was part of NBC, WJZ was sister to the Red Network's WEAF. WEAF became WNBC in 1946, WRCA in 1954, and back to WNBC in 1960.

Can always count on you Ellis. Due to recouping from an operation I missed this broadcast. This is radio history at it's best!

@EllisFeaster Doing well. I needed a pacemaker. It's like putting new points & rotor on an old car! LOL! Looking forward to addional 880 posts.
What, no Edward R. Murrow? Well, never mind. This was a great program. WCBS has been a part of my life, can't say goodbye! 😮💨
Did you catch him ending a remote with Django Reinhardt?
Yes, true longevity. We will miss it for sure. :-( 0:34

I am not happy of WCBS 880's leaving my radio..
Is any other NYC station going to pick up CBS Radio News on the hour? If not WINS, then perhaps WOR?
@@TheBrooklynbodine I don’t think anyone will pick it up. If it were going to happen, it probably would have happened August 26 at 1am.
OK, thanks. I'm inclined to agree, and I really respect your opinions.

Ole ESPN 98.7/ 1050’s now vacant since they took 880. There’s a huge opportunity for EMMIS to resurrect WCBS NEWSRADIO 88 on 98.7FM.

This is not right. 880 is a New York treasure.

The fact that Crocker is/ was black and Grant had troubling racial views might have had something to do with it.
