For the only ring bound journal I’ve crafted the base pages are light chipboard.
I do like the ring bound journals.
Collage, when the aim is to work in scraps they can be straight edged. Paper torn-look is what I like first💕🐾🐾🌸📚

I do the torn edges like you do, My favorite one was the last one you did with the purples and the flower combination, My next one was the pink butterflies with the bits of green. I have tried to collage both ways. It usually depends on what my scraps look like and what kind of journal I am working on. The more I do the better they seem to look. Yours are always lovely! - Kim

You and I have been JJ'ing together for a hot minute, and while I'm all over making masterboards with you - your style is my favorite and I can spot it a mile away - I've only done one ring bound with you, and that was YEARS ago! I say let's do it! Let's make a masterboard ring bound journal! I have kept out a box of papers, stamps, ink, and a few fabrics with a big note on it that says "DO NOT PACK". After my parents having lived in this house for over 30 years then my moving in to care for them about ten years ago, this cross-country move is becoming quite a situation, as you can imagine. I need my creative time to keep my sanity and reward myself at the end of a busy day. Love and big hugs sweetie, just like always, MK 🤗❤️🌵❤️🤗

They all came out beautifully. The last one is probably my favorite. I tend to more of the straight edge, but I like torn edges, so may try that.😊
A GREAT WAY TO USE SCRAPES-TFS-HUGS/BLESSINGS
It took me a really long time, and SO many attempts to figure out how to do straight edge collages (ones that I really liked and was satisfied with). I watched all the great crafters and their videos on collaging. I commend them because they really do try to explain the process. However, it's something that is just easy and natural for them, so they would leave out key processes, unintentionally. I finally learned those "key" things that work for me to give me the results I desire. Now that I have figured it out and can make collages that I like, I LOVE making them and it is currently my go-to. But, when I feel like crafting and have no mojo, I collage with torn edges and raggedy shapes. For me, it doesnt require much thought and it's something I can do all willy-nilly. 😂 and still love the results. For me, it also depends on how and where I intend to use the collage. I really enjoy watching you collage though. You're so inspiring in everything you do, but your collaging gives me such a sense of freedom. I love it! I, personally, don't get the "freedom" feeling when doing straight edges.

I love the magic! My favourites are the same as yours. I collage both ways depending on what papers I'm using. Using postcards, labels, frames etc. would be one for straight edges.

I used ripped papers and straight edges. Although I prefer use my scrappy ripped pieces even so.e lace. On book pages I like to leave some the book page showing . Always love your videos, you keep me company while crafting "hugs"! Thank you

Two in one day, what a treat! You filmed ahead or got new nails? Lol. Yeah borders were huge at one point🙈. Yes even the shape of your base changes collage. I ruler tear either straight or patterned even though I like your torn ones I just can't get it right 🙈. You film it and I'll watch it. Things like recipe and large children's books make good base pages, backs of printables and scrapbook paper too. Oh and I always use old wall calendars for master boards. Lol you often say "I never...." And then do it loads. It's definitely magic! "Ta dah" 🙊. I love the blue and brown the most😍😍😍. Tfs and have a great day 💖💖💖
I have only done the straight edge and fussy cut edges master boards. I love the idea of a 3 ring master board binder
Ring bound journal would be nice. I collage with straight lines and torn pieces, it all depends on my mood, I like to mix it up. The collages are so yummy.

So excited to see two videos! I only collage with torn edges. I don't enjoy collaging straight edges...too neat and tidy for me. I enjoy watching other people doing it but not myself doing it. Jessica from Paper Terrace also collages with torn edges! I would love to see the ring bound journal! Also I feel inspired to do it right along side you! I haven't done a ring bound journal yet! As far as bases I use 12x12 cardstock I don't like or wouldn't use because I have a few hanging around or manila cardstock.

I used to only use straight edges but now I've discovered I like the torn look better. Sometimes I even like the white part of the torn edge to be on my art. I've done straight edges but I don't think they look as natural as The ripped pieces. Today's Quote:

Hello, Tina. I tried collage many years ago and hated it. I think it was way too random for my scrapbooking, card making brain at the time.
Since then I have fallen in love with the JJ world and have learned to loosen up a bit. Although I'm not giving up my paper trimmers. I can't cut a piece of paper straight no matter what. I cringe every time I see you all just take your scissors and whack away. I also still use a ruler to measure my cuts.
I now love to collage and get to the ta dah moment.😊
I do both, straight edge and torn. I guess it just depends on my mood.
So out of the four beautiful collages you made I think the second one from the left is my favorite.

I find with collage it depends on my mood. When I'm stressed I make straight edges and when I'm relaxed I just rip the papers. But sometimes when I'm so struggling to create something and I start with collage I tend to tear rather small pieces and it looks too messy and not good, sort of whats going on in my head...very uptight and not thiking straight.
Ring bound journal with collaged book pages as the base pages I think I would love to make. I haven't made a ring bound journal before. I'd like to make one along with you.
I struggle with eclectic style. Matchy matchy is my Jam. lol. As well as colours, they have to go together nicely.

My favourite is the purple one and I don't like purple but it's followed very closely by the blue with brown. Now, I wrote this before you asked which was our favourite and you picked the same.. lol.@54:10. copycat...lol.
I tend to do a mix of torn and straight depending on my scraps. I also like to rubber stamp over it when I'm done.

I am somewhat new to junk journals; however, scrapbooking since the 80; card making late 90’s. I remember doing collage as a kid. My first few have been very neat and tidy with quite a few straight edges and everything lined up just so. Gradually bringing in ragged edges and even using multiple mediums. I like them all and they are really all beautiful! Relaxing and fun to do!

I collage with both straight edges and torn edges. Sometimes I collage straight and torn edges on the same collage piece.
I collage in multiple ways, depending on the scraps I have and what I'm planning to do with the finished sheet.

I really like ring bound journals. I don’t see them used much though.
Most times, I am a straight edge person, but at times I do the torn edge look. It depends on the feel I want in the journal. If I am going for a more grunge style, then it is torn edge. Otherwise, I do straight. I find straight edges easier than the torn, but I can do both. I obsess more over the torn edge. I overthink the pieces, making sure they don't have points and sharp angles. Sometimes I tear them and I don't like the shape and then have to retear and then it's too small. So torn takes me longer to do because I am much more fussy.

Hi Tina, I collage both ways not to say I mix them both. To be honest I find tearing the edges seems to make the piece “flow” together better. Rather straight edges which looks rigid and a bit severe, just my opinion.
I personally prefer to do torn edges. I thought that was the right way to do it since the first time I watched a video on collage master board was torn. Then I later saw some use straight edges. I was really confused. I am fairly new to junk journals. ❤

Omg..I thought it was just me about not wanting to use 2 flowers of a different kind. I am the same way with butterflies. I am not bad with the matchy matchy, but colors have to be in the same tones.
