I adore the inane c-mmentary on this delightful collection of Namaqua Sandgrouse (Pterocles namaqua) swarms coming in to drink at this waterhole! No “belly-wetters” so no breeding at this time!
Kwessiegat is part of (or at least linked to) the Namibrand Private Reserve. It's the the farm to the north of Wereldsend. Not a public access space, but there are accommodation options in the area (broadly speaking - as in within 30 or so kms), e.g. the Namibrand Family Hideout: facebook.com/groups/181232118601497/?fref=ts ). Also look at NADEET (for interest, rather than accommodation): facebook.com/pages/NaDEET/154469784564449?fref=ts Hope this helps - W.
William Hofmeyr Thanks, much appreciated!! So if one stays at Family Hideout it will be possible to visit this waterhole? What are the roads like - 4x4 needed?
Elmar Venter Sorry Elmar, hadn't noticed your question. This particular waterhole is close to a private homestead, so I don't think so. But there are splendid options throughout the park. Search for Wolwedans or Namibrand Family Hideout, and take it from there. Generally, getting to wherever one is staying is possible in a 2x4. Guided drives in appropriate vehicles can be arranged; generally, one is permitted to self-drive at will, but the Family Hideout does have a 4x4 trail that can be self-driven, and now also access to a second. They've also recently opened a new camping option: facebook.com/FamilyHideout/photos/a.399503176739709.87642.204927396197289/833347423355280/?type=1&theater
Sorry, only saw your question now! It's on a private farm, but it's in the Namibrand Nature Reserve. Their website has accommodation options - look e.g. for the Family Hideout.

Love the sound of those Sandgrouse! Reminds me of my visit to Sossusvlei and the Namib Naukluft Park.

Fantastic scenes. How do one reach this waterhole? What is the closest accommodation option?
