    I put EMG active pickups into my G&L tele. I like them! The only hassle is in my particular guitar the tele kit was not quite a perfect drop in, the neck P/U was a little tight. I made it fit but I could have adjusted the holes a little bit. It makes sound so for now I'm leaving it alone. 🙂

    Very cool design and kit. I may have to go in on NPM kit #2. Personally, I like the au naturale look, but that's probably just me. Thanks for demystifying this process and making it look fun!

    First, thank you for sharing, the basses are beautiful, and because I'm new to the channel I didn't realize you made these tools too. I had been looking for what your center finder was since I first saw it in passing in another video. Well, now that I'm more educated you've got a Japan bound order now. I had been thinking about making a center finder for ages now and had the same gear idea. I'm thrilled to have the chance to work with your center finder!

      Awesome. Yea I’m surprised there aren’t more tools like that in the market. Welcome!

    I see lots of back and forth on the carbon fiber rods, and I wonder if it's not so much a question of immediate use but a question of long-term durability. Sure, both are fine a few weeks out; and others have done similar with them being fine a few months out - but if you plan on hanging on to the instrument for a decade or two, is that where the difference will show? Or if you gig a lot, and we both know the dramatic heat/cold/humidity changes from the trailer to the venue are not kind to an instrument, will the stiffening rods help withstand those rigors?
    Anyway, love them both - even though I've an irrational dislike of active pickups. Looking forward to the next project.

      My dislike of active pickups was also irrational and I’m finally getting over it! Agreed on the carbon. I think time will tell, but I also have some non carbon necks that are 50-60 years old and fine. Honestly I think it’s more of a necessity in extended range, extra string scenarios than traditional scales and tensions.

    935th view 108th LIKE... soon. 16:46 - first-look/impression - made me think it looks like you made a bass out of old flooring - "not that there's anything WRONG with that..." - and, I could continue the pun by stating: I really like the fret markers, and the tone samples 'floored me'. But I will spare you that bit of goofiness. They both came out looking & sounding great.

    hey, any tips on drilling holes for grounding wires to the bridge.
    On previous builds i've put a rather large hole under the bridge then gone sideways to the pickup/control cavity.

    • @timsway
      @timsway  4 місяці тому

      Yea, it’s the scariest part of any build, that diagonal drill. I suggest getting a 12” long 1/8” drill bit and designing your guitars so the cavity and bridge location are close!
