Salut Pearl, I have one question, why are words such as de peur que, bien que, avant que etc. referred to as connecting words? I'm not clear. Is it bc there words used to connect a sentence? It might be obvious but I am missing it and want to be clear. Merci beaucoup. This was an excellent video!

@@MyFrenchStory thank you, it went alright! your video about the french schooling system helped SO much; there were a lot of great phrases that helped me develop my answers a little bit extra. i have a small video suggestion (if you haven't done it already!): a video explaining when/why to use 'de' or 'à' after a verb, if that makes sense? for example, why it might be 'il est important d'aider' rather than 'à aider' and why it's not just 'il est important aider'. thank you again for this, best wishes!!

I have the rest - common irregular verbs, impersonal expressions, connecting words but no emotion verbs. please advise thank you

I get the subjunctive in Spanish but for some reason the French subjunctive was confusing me - I guess it's because in a lot of cases the subjunctive and indicative look the same in French (je mange / que je mange, etc), which doesn't happen in Spanish. I guess I've been seeing the subjunctive all along without realizing it. This was very helpful!

As one who learned Spanish i get the subjunctive, but am I going crazy... je mange vs que je mange... aren't they the same word??? It's clear for me with yo como vs yo coma. This

Okay, apparently the subjunctive is triggered by the “que” right? And then I told a friend of mine: « J’espère que tu aies bien dormi » et après elle m’a corrigé « j’espère que tu AS bien dormi ». I asked why and she couldn’t tell me. Can anybody help???
Yes for the "que", but after "que" that is not always subjonctif. j’espère que tu AS bien dormi is right, but you will say, for exemple Que tu AIES bien dormi me rend heureuse. You can also say "que tu as bien dormi !", here the meaning is different : you see your friend, it is 11 AM and he looks well rested. It is a ascertainment, there is no doubt. But it could be a little sarcastic in this case. But there is no universal rule of subjonctif. It depends of the meaning, the semantics, but that is no a general rule, sometime it is very subtle. For a french it is natural to use subjonctif or not, but it is hard to explain exactly why here and why not here every time. sometime it could be subjonctif or indicatif, the meaning of the sentence is not the same in this case. Generally the action must be not finished or a wish, a doubt, but as you say see, that is a not a perfect rule. The only way is to listen a lot of french to feel the moment to use it or not. If you already have a good level, you can read the french wikipedia for subjonctif, it will explain some subtlety like : "Je cherche un étudiant qui soit parfaitement bilingue" is correct : i wish there are bilingual students, and i'm looking for one. "Je cherche un étudiant qui est parfaitement bilingue" is correct too : i know there are bilingual students, and i'm looking for one.

1 hour per day is perfect. On top of that try to listen to French music and watch French videos (tv shows, movies etc.). 😊
