Please visit my website and have a look at the downloads section for the 3d model of this door. www.bradshawjo...
I also have a bonus video not published to youtube on there - drawing the sketchup model of this door- www.bradshawjo...
Creating the gunstock joint at the middle rail of this door. Should be an interesting video for most carpenters and joiners as these dont come around very often, I bet a handful of these are made every year throughout the UK, but a very normal and traditional method for making doors of yesteryear.
Apologies for the cold and not so flowing footage from this video and the next few, not to a standard I'd like but wanted to document the whole process.

#Joinery #Woodworking - Навчання та стиль
You may be feeling poorly but you are never boring. Love the traditional joinery, especially the use of sharp tools and the sound of hand saws cutting wood. Get well soon 🌞
Thankyou Ray! :)
You will get drummed out of the guild of UA-cam woodworkers using a £7 saw for tenon cuts, you should have a £80 brass back saw minimum. 😂
im waiting for his epoxy river table 😄
Lol, both these made me laugh ahha!! :D
@@kevinwillis6707 lol 😂
Excellent as usual Oliver, I learned something new with the wedge explanation- seems obvious when you see it drawn out, but I would never have thought about it. Thanks!
Cheers PAul!
Morning after the night before eh??
Happy new year.
I hope the Good Lord blesses you mightily this year.
Haha wish it was! thankyou very much! :)
Great job. You've found a perfect balance between joinery video and an educational joinery video. No boasting, no silly tool brandishing, just an honest, good work. Carry on!
Thanks Stefan
You are doing a great job with the videos. Thanks for making them.
Cheers Walter!
Wonderful work. It would be great if you could make a video about accuracy cos I'm ok but not getting the fits you get.
cheers john, i hope its portrayed in the videos, considderation at every stage and a keen eye, careful measuring etc. its not something that just happens because you are good, its all in the finessing throughout.
Thanks for getting back. I'm not out by much and most people wouldn't notice but its still bugs me!@@BradshawJoinery
Learn loads from your vids dude; been making a 600mm x 1050mm door at college and did a diminished shoulder the other week. We used a router and jig to cut it but I’ll remember your method for next time as looked much easier on the crosscut.
thanks mate, suprised they still teach that! nice to hear
@@BradshawJoinery yeah we’ve got a 60ish yr old tutor who’s been a joiner since he left school and wants to pass on what he was taught. He chucked things at the door design that he thought would challenge/teach us. Glued it all up last week and finishing it this week. Been great seeing you make yours, sat there going “I did that at college” to my Wife 🤣
Brilliant Craftsmanship 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks mate!
Great looking door gunstocks brilliant think your right pu is a disaster for time consuming glue ups wondered about those panels no stranger to an odd rush of blood myself 😢 keep
haha its certainly keeps you on your toes
Can anyone venture a guess what this job is costing??? Beautiful OVER THE TOP CRAFTSMANSHIP!!!!!!!
Video was amazing !
Thankyou, i appreciate it
That's one hell of a door and frame. The craftsmanship is exceptional and your eye for detail is simply amazing. Even though you are not 100% you'd never know. Keep up the great videos and get well.
thankyou mate! :)
It's like watching a European Ishitani
With perfect oral description as well 😉😉
Haha thanks bud
25:00 You can fox wedge also & split the tenon which is even stronger, & doesn't rely on just glue strength.
True, i dislike fox wedging as you are interrupting the grain of the rail/tenon and cannot create tension in the centre of the stil as a blunt wedge down the outsides will, which is where the strength should be IMO. both work though
Just plainly beautiful!!! Especially the use of hand tools in the middle of tje use of high tech machinery. Craftsmanship as an artform!
That's some world-class joinery!
Thank you! :)
Fantastic as ever
Bootiful !! Great work and advice.
brilliant. oh how inadequate you make me feel.
I like your ruler with imperial markings on one side and metric markings on the other so you can see where the two different scales line up! 😄
agree with 7300....never boring....your skill and method with your chisel is worth watching in and of itself
thankyou David!
Jedi ninja skill level…. Again!! 👌🏼
Skew whiff on rail shoulder-
Have you ever had problems with wider rails and expansion? I noticed in the glue up video you glued everything (the shoulders, haunch and tenons). Has this ever been a problem in parts 8"-10" wide?
Love the work. Thank you for sharing the excellent content
No, back in time when. I didn't acclimatise timber (or didn't have the facility to) it often means rails will shrink over time, but now it's not so much of an issue unless things get damp or external. I use Accoya for all external except certain circumstances.
Q1. Why not use a multi-tool - instead of coping saw? Q2. Could you have used a "micro planer .. when finishing the Gunshot cuts? Cheers.. just curious... Cheers
Speed and accuracy, multi tool is slow when you want to be accurate. Also coping saw will give a cleaner cut.
Quickest metho would be with router on gunstock but thought I'd use the hand tools!
Nice work mate!
The glue your are using for laminating or glue joint is PUR or PRF? Do you recommend to use Aerodux Resorcinol Resin for timber laminating? The laminated timber will be using for exterior door or windows. Many thanks.
Its PU, id say the best for external but any d4 glue is rated for it.
What a stunning door. New ambition: get Oliver to make me a front door like this one.
Haha! i think this video series would be a good advert for me to be fair! But im pleased you would want such a thing. :) thankyou
Now I have watched all in this series, and I am still amazed by the craftsmanship.
What is the wood species again?
thankyou Sapele
brilliant video as always, I cant help but feel abit sad that this will be painted after seeing how stunning the Sapele is again. the green is great but the natural grain is so impressive
I agree but i love a painted finish. natural wood can be a bit too much/overpowering at times
Absolutely cheating using the morticer to set the lock in - that looked a doddle.
Haha its great if you can get away with it
Show em how it’s done 💪🏾
Amazing stuff, you are a skilled teacher and I've learned lots. Keep it coming.
Great to see a blend of hand and machine work!
Thanks Mate
Outstanding craftsmanship as always Oliver. I believe you need to treat yourself to some top of the range handsaws. Veritas, Lie-Neilson, Clifton etc. I've seen plumbers with better handsaws! A man with your talent should have the finest tools, 👍💪🔨🇮🇪
Yeah im planning a Tool wall/ board behind the bench and have my carpentry tools mounted on it so will get some nicer gear then.
@@BradshawJoinery 👍💪🔨🇮🇪
Love your work mate. We used to use the haunch cuts for the wedges, so cut the wedges out of the haunches
yes thats the one
Sorry you are unwell, Oliver. Can't wait for the glue-up.
What a beautiful job!
Amazing work!
Thank you! Cheers!
Brilliant work
THankyou Peter!
Superb as always Ollie. Cheers 🍻
thanks Brian
👊🫡
The mutts nuts as usual. Looks amazing.
Thanks!
Refreshing , no bull shit , quality joinery , More addicted to this than i was with GOT! I get withdrawal symptom's waiting for the next release
Great craftsman , cant imagine how good you'd be with a solid vice and table !! 😉 .. The job looks awesome already...
Its a shame the bullshit gets views :( will keep chipping away at the videos though
Great video !!!1 thank you !!!!
Thank you too!
Great work, great video as always. Watching you chisel against the grain is more harrowing than a horror film! I wish I could say I was looking forward to the glue-up but I still get anxious at the thought of them having ruined a few builds at that point. I have complete trust in yours though...
thankyou! "itll be alright" ahah
Superb joinery content, simply explained and demonstrated to the highest of standards. This video along with its accompanying earlier parts ( including the frame construction) are absolutely a joy to watch and to learn from especially how machining of the timber components is achieved and then, where appropriate, hand work is applied. Each stage is completed with real attention to detail which is so wonderful to see. Wonderful precise craftsmanship!!!
Thankyou Jeff, really appreciate it
Another very nice informative video. Looking forward to seeing the glue up. Cheers. Jim
Thanks JIm
Best woodworking tutorial on YT hands down. I must admit, I've got a small case of spindle molder envy 😅
haha thanks, i didnt pay a huge amount for it many many years ago lol
Ollie are you planning to put up some extra content in the future for your Patreon members? Great work as per usual 👍🏼👍🏼
Hi bud, i can't even get into patreon last month, but i don't think so i cant manage the work load unfortunately. Patreon was setup just for those very appreciated members who wanted to help support me and say thankyou, i am thinking about a members only video platfrom, where i post snippets on youtube and the full video available to members for say £10 a month. But just a thought currently
@@BradshawJoinery Fair enough pal. Thank you for your honesty. Been following your channel for long time now and a patreon as well. Learnt a lot over the years and you are a great teacher. I will be happy to pay £10 and learn more joinery, it’s a bargain. Sounds like a good idea and I will be well up for it. I am sure there will be more people up for it. Well done bud 👍🏼
Thankyou mate, I will say there has been times I nearly gave up doing the videos, if not for the patron payments making me feel guilty I wouldn't have made more content at them times...!
@@BradshawJoinery I understand it a massive commitment. Tbh I don’t know how you do it with your farming life as well. Hats off to you. You are gaining more followers every day. I am sure it will get a little bit better and you will get a little bit more £ for it over time. Looking forward to new content 😉.
You’ve _totally convinced_ me that my favourite style of furniture is shaker-style, and that the Domino is the safest way to get something about square.
haha yeah its nice and clean/simple but if designed well doesnt need fanciness
Excellent work, get well soon
thankyou, took ages to get better still a bit off.
A joy to watch and learn. As others have said your videos are a great balance between interesting to watch and teaching technique. Hope you are feeling better.
Great to hear! Thankyou
Paul Sellers will be proud 😮
My first frame of the year ended up in the bin mat:(
Admittedly it was in the evening aver a decent first day on site, for some old bloke I was trying to look after… ho hum
When you forget to route haunches final depth just use two bits of stock same width either side … a stuff up sandwich! ‘What are you?! A stuff up sandwich!- G Ramsey’
Happy new year
haha, ive had a few god wrong but not too many. Usually when youve forgotten to do something that the panic sets in
@@BradshawJoinery yeah, all machines were set up
For a big job I did last year and I
Just ‘rushed in’ thinking I’d be sweet, then a catalog of dumb ass moves later seen 1.5 hrs and couple of meters wasted 😂
But he wanted me to repair his old one which is MORE work! For what it is. So I said today ‘need a new one, $500 do you want it or not?’
Jumped at it, it’s glued up and going through sander shortly 👍🏻
You ever made a Gothic arch door, I want to give it a go, but I’m a bit chicken 😂👍🏻
Stunning job🤌🏽
Cheers Kian, hope you are well matey
Nice jobe bro
