I love that they chose this piece for the ending credits. While Goldsmith's original end credits music would have worked as well, I feel this suits the film more. This allows the audience to finally breath. It lets the audience know that the horror is finally over and that they can leave in peace. It is both happy and sad. Happy because Ripley has finally vanquished the Alien and has survived. Sad that the rest of the crew is dead and the ship is destroyed. She is rolling towards an unknown future and she may not be rescued. I love the last shot in the film with her in white in the Cryo tube. Its almost like she's sleeping beauty. She can know rest after the horrible ordeal of the Alien
I think Goldsmith's end credits would have accomplished the same sense of release. It's a very romantic piece in it's own right. That said, having seen Alien on it's opening day back in 1979, this has cemented it's place as the only end credit music for the movie. Had I heard Goldsmith's in the original I'd probably feel the same way but you just cant erase this music from memory.
Goldsmith's music for the end credits is a stirring piece on its own, especially when seen performed live, but this one fits the mood of the film's ending much better.
Especially for the movie itself. After all, the movie is so dark, spooky, desolate, bleak, sinister, scary, creepy, threatening, frightening, terrifying, claustrophobic, morbid, mortifying, ominous, and the like.
Even the though this movie is horrifying and scary --- at the end of it.. you feel renewed and hopeful ... a sense of peace and the wonder of new possibilites... -- you walk out of a movie these days and you feel like crap... no inspiration.. just an empty feeling depression and despair... we need a comeback... for hope..
This tune perfectly compliments the ending of Alien. This was Ridley Scott in his prime, creating and visualizing things and make sure it was a masterpiece. Now thanks to age, he has fallen much like Lucas.. I don't exactly hate the Alien prequels but I don't love them either like the original film. For me the original film is far superior to the sequel that became a action piece by James Cameron (a director I have great respect for btw even to this day even though he hasn't finished Terminator showing the future war which I have always wanted to see realized (properly I might add not half assed like McG did)).
Lol i think james cameron is cursed. cause every time he did 2nd movie to franchise both aliens and terminator they gradually went down shitier after every installment! Alien 3 and terminator 3 were okay but after that they just steadily went off a cliff! I add to anybody if going watch alien 3 watch directors cut it far better than theatrical one, still not good first 2 but better than the theatrical! As for ridely scott, same for lucas and james cameron, i think once they became larger than life they felt had nothing left to prove, so no need put effort into anything anymore! that and fell into the pit that is cult of hollywood lets face it, its damn cult now maybe always was, but now not trying hide anymore!
I could listen to 1:10 forever....it just soars....It's Ripley's theme of finally defeating the alien...At least that alien :) Jerry Goldsmith is an amazing artist.
Unfortunately this was Howard Hanson as Ridley Scott "borrowed" this for use in Alien. I think Scott chose well, mind you, its just important to give credit where Credit is due. Hanson's Symphony #2 (which this is borrowed from) is a beautiful piece of music and I can't think of any other place it would be better than here. Its the release after all that tension and terror. I love this whole project that this poster obviously put a lot of effort and love into.
The original Hanson piece used for Alien was played by the New World Symphony, who also played the music for the original Alien soundtrack conducted by longtime Goldsmith conductor Lionel Newman. Scott chose the New World Symphony version specifically because they had also performed Goldsmith's soundtrack. The controversy between Goldsmith and Scott is among the legends in the Hollywood Soundtrack community because Goldsmith was upset that his score for Freud was used without his input. Although appropriate for the scenes for which they were used in the movie, Goldsmith had a different vision and once he found out refused to participate any further in scoring the movie. Thus you have the scene in "The Landing" where the music doesn't quite match and basically fades out without completing the scene.
And to think Laura that this piece was written in 1930. It's a beautiful piece. It's not the complete version of the piece. This is about the 11 minute mark of the entire piece as a whole, the entire piece of the Symphony is about half hour long.
I listened to this after getting platinum in alien isolation. That game and this piece hold such a special place in my heart because of how much of a journey it was. This song expresses my feelings after beating it once and for all. Thank you so much for doing this, good job :)
This music is very beautiful and calming. Fun fact: Part of this music is used in the end of the official "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrail" teaser trailer from 1981/1982. Go check it out.
This is the music I think of every time I think of my ex-wife. She was a narcissistic monster. A true, mean mother fucker if ever there were one. Morally bankrupt, family court overlooked her cheating and took my sons from me. They took my house, half a million dollars and nearly my life. She put my sons and I through unbelievable hell! Now, my sons are back with me and she has faded into nothingness. Life is quiet and happy again. The alien that was in our lives is gone. Gone to go wreck someone's else's life. Never get with a narcissist. They are true "Aliens."
Narcissism among American women is one of biggest, most singular hidden destroyers of the American family unit today. The PI that I hired to catch mine told me "over 90% of the cases of cheating he works today involve female cheaters. Women hold all the cards in family court. The advent of no fault clauses has given them a "green light" to mess around. They can trade up and that's great! You still pay! If it doesn't work then they get half your company pension, military retirement plus spousal support and child support plus the house. They can run up credit card debt during separation and also get you to pay a significant amount of their attorney fees. No wonder so many women are fucking around! They do it because they can! Liberal feminism took over the Family Courts back in the late 70s. They have been on a rampage since then. No one is getting married anymore. Everyone is afraid of cheating females.

I'm so glad the greatest sci-fi horror movie of all time ended with Ripley's victory and an unknown future as we see the last image of her in hypersleep instead of some cheap jump scare where the alien bites her head off or something. Space can be a frightening place, but at the same time, you have to admire its vast unknowable beauty.

A lot of ppl don't agree but tbh this track was a good choice on Scott's part because really the movie needed something to relieve the audience from such a tense ending, and it also gives us a feel for how it must feel for Ripley to finally make it out of such an ordeal.

Visuals were done in FCPX along a week approx. The hard work lays in audio treatment... and it's now available on CD!
Best song from this movie! Beautiful and sad at the same time. I always think that the week's between this ending and where "Aliens" start that this song is Ripley crying in her dream of everyone aboard the Nostromos that died and the horror she went through from her first encounter with a Xenomorph while she was in hypersleep.
its an amazing film!! my favourite scifi /horror of all time!! i can watch this movie every couple of years and still enjoy it so much!! ridley scott has directed so many good films over the years!! i like aliens in a dfferent way but sometimes some stories should be left as one movie and lets our imaginations decide if ripley and jones,s make it back!! i worked in london years ago and had the honour of meeting john hurt and getting his autogragh!! such a nice man!! . anyone else agree with me over sequels??? . the batman.
@@jefftracyf.a.b6351 i agree with you, for me aliens is a more face paced rollercoaster scifi sequel, i remember going to see alien 3 at the cinema and coming out disapointed , i think due to the fact that how do you top aliens so they seemed to take the third movie in the opposite direction, in hindsight alien 3 had great sets and considering the production problems is a film that i have grown to respect a lot more , i like its dark theme and feeling of despair in the movie.
The score for "Alien" was one of the most groundbreaking achievements by one of the most talented composers of all time. What a slap in the face it must have been for Goldsmith to sit in the theater and suddenly his music is replaced by Howard Hanson. Over the years, I've grown to lose respect for Ridley Scott. Especially in connection with ersatz "musicians" such as Hans Zimmer.
I think Horner's end credits for 'Aliens' is the tone that would have suited the first film's end credits. Horner's music has a sense of emotions being played out to almost burnt out level and he also conveys the trauma that will remain for some considerable time. Yes, the terror is over, but the memory will only slowly fade. Personally, while this is a truly gorgeous piece of music, it has a sense of too much emotional release and feels as though there is a hard line inserted between what happened and how it impacts the audience leaving the cinema. While I guess Goldsmith's original cue made sense, for me it suffers from not having enough emotional release. It's all a fine balance and I'm sure people will have different responses.

Great peice of end credits scifi movie music. except the last credit to Wayland Utani. Those Suns of bitches "Crew expendable". but guess that's what made the story so good.
I'm just glad Ripley got the alien in the end. Imagine if they went with the original ending and had the alien kill Ripley and win. That would've been such a downer.
How do I get the exact Howard Hanson version that is in the film? Where can I download it at? iTunes or amazon? I want the exact sound and title even if it's not the excerpt and the full song

Hello Sarah, several releases and H.H. compilations are now on iTunes, although none of them are from the publisher that I employed in this work. Contact me if you are interested in owning this version in audio CD. Best,
ua-cam.com/video/nN4li1lVReQ/v-deo.html This is the song that plays on this video. The original I believe, i knew i heard it somewhere before and this helped me confirm it. Premiered in boston symphony hall. I only watched this movie for the first time this year. The part in this video is somewhere in the middle/end of the song i posted.
In one of your replies, you mentioned that all of these tracks from Alien were now available on CD....would be very interested to know who to contact to purchase a CD.....thanks

Alien is a horror movie, Alien is a sci-fi movie, but most most of all it's simply a BEAUTIFUL movie- haunting and sad and scary, yes- but beautiful.
Прекрасные слова.
Well said. I agree. When I think of H.R. Giger’s designs and art, the only description that comes to mind is that of a beautiful nightmare.
.... mit haufenweise peinlichen Film- und Logikfehlern.
Alien is a saga about a journey. A journey off the edge of the universe and of the human knowledge.
easily one of my favourite endings to any movie - so incredibly bittersweet and emotional.
My favorite soundtrack of all time.
Simply beautiful this piece. An absolutely perfect soothing release after all the tension.
Listening to the track labeled "End Credits" totally captured the pain, misery and triumph of the entire film! Haunting but somber to its core...
Beautiful ending to a very intimidating motion picture! Good way to say " I'm glad that bastard is dead".
Its the end of Ellen's journey for now, but Amanda's journey has just begun...
"See you soon Amanda. Be a good girl. I love you." Ellen Ripley
Thanks for uploading the movie score - it has such an incredible soundtrack, and this piece is possible my favourite.
Howard Hanson 's 1930 "Symphony No. 2, Romantic" Damn good music.
a very romantic way to end Alien
This piece is actually from Howard Hanson's 1930 "Symphony No. 2, Romantic".
So yeah, it's literally a "romantic" tune.
Such beautiful music.
You Toober yes yes it is beautiful
Especially for the movie itself. After all, the movie is so dark, spooky, desolate, bleak, sinister, scary, creepy, threatening, frightening, terrifying, claustrophobic, morbid, mortifying, ominous, and the like.
End Credits - wow - that is my favorite - it sounds like a classic great piece of classical music - and then so - emotional and tranquil - great job -

I love this piece almost as much as the movie itself - which is one of my very favourite movies! Thanks for this!!
Considering what I saw visually the end credit music is so soothing...
"Building Better Worlds"
Literally "better"
The World needs Companies like Weyland Yutani
this compilation of tracks and the visuals are one of the most impressive things i've ever seen on youtube. my hat is off to you, sir.
I know it's been years since he passed, but... rest in peace, Jerry Goldsmith.
You were truly one of the greats.
We all miss him...
The end credit music is not Jerry Goldsmith. It is the Howrd Hanson 2nd symphony 'Romantic'
Absolutely fantastic end theme. Stuck with me all these years👍⚡
Beatiful and quiet ending of classic movie ci fi of the 1979 year
Beautiful music to end a sci-fi movie on. Particularly a sci-fi horror movie like Alien. Thank you for uploading it.
I believe in "The Shaft - Last Survivor" and "End Credits" the music we're hearing is by Howard Hanson (Symphony No2 - "Romantic").

"Wading with whales, waiting for dolphins"
Great
I'm just glad Ripley got the alien in the end. Imagine if they went with the original ending and had the alien kill Ripley and win. That would've been such a downer.
It is the end for now ... Next time its aliens and preditors how bad can it be
How do I get the exact Howard Hanson version that is in the film? Where can I download it at? iTunes or amazon? I want the exact sound and title even if it's not the excerpt and the full song
Hello Sarah,
several releases and H.H. compilations are now on iTunes, although none of them are from the publisher that I employed in this work. Contact me if you are interested in owning this version in audio CD.

This is the song that plays on this video. The original I believe, i knew i heard it somewhere before and this helped me confirm it. Premiered in boston symphony hall. I only watched this movie for the first time this year. The part in this video is somewhere in the middle/end of the song i posted.
