    ### Key Insights
    1. **Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT):**
DeLauer emphasizes that one of the most effective ways to lose fat, particularly abdominal fat, is by increasing non-exercise activity thermogenesis (NEAT). NEAT encompasses all the movements and activities that aren't considered exercise-like walking, doing household chores, and fidgeting. This type of activity burns more calories throughout the day than formal exercise routines, especially for those with more muscle mass. In regions like Europe, where walking is more common, people tend to have lower obesity rates and better overall health.
    2. **Heat Therapy as an Exercise Mimetic:**
Sitting in a hot bath or sauna can mimic some of the effects of cardio exercise. Heat therapy increases heart rate, blood pressure, and respiratory rate, providing some of the cardiovascular benefits of exercise. Studies show that heat exposure, like sitting in a sauna, can produce similar fat-burning effects to low-intensity cardio without actually doing exercise. This makes heat therapy an appealing option for those who dislike traditional cardio routines.
    3. **Allulose as a Fat-Loss Sweetener:**
Allulose, a rare sugar derived from figs, has shown promising fat-loss benefits. Studies indicate that replacing other sweeteners with allulose can lead to a significant reduction in body fat, particularly abdominal fat. Allulose boosts fat oxidation and decreases fat storage mechanisms, which makes it a unique tool for those looking to manage their weight without changing other aspects of their diet.
    4. **Cold Exposure for Increased Energy Expenditure:**
Exercising or being in colder temperatures (around 50-60°F) can increase energy expenditure by up to 15%. This effect happens because cold exposure prompts the body to burn more fat to maintain its temperature. While the fat-burning effect is less pronounced than with other strategies, DeLauer suggests that this can be a helpful bonus for those looking to lose fat.
    5. **Two Short Resistance Workouts Per Day:**
Splitting resistance training into two shorter sessions throughout the day can have a profound effect on metabolism. Resistance training stimulates the muscles and creates a thermogenic response in the body, and doing it twice a day offers a more consistent metabolic boost than one long session. It’s a time-efficient way to reap benefits similar to doing cardio, especially for those who dislike lengthy exercise routines.
    6. **Water-Induced Thermogenesis:**
Drinking 500 ml of water can increase resting energy expenditure by 25% for about an hour. This thermogenic effect, which is unique to plain water (not saline), helps the body burn more calories without any significant effort. DeLauer highlights this as a simple, effective way to elevate metabolism.
    7. **Protein-Sparing Modified Fast (PSMF):**
A PSMF involves consuming a high-protein, low-carb, and low-fat diet for one day a week. The high thermogenic effect of protein means the body will burn more calories processing it, and the low calorie intake leads to significant fat loss without a large reduction in metabolic rate. This strategy should be used sparingly, as prolonged low-calorie intake can negatively impact metabolism.
    8. **EOMOM (Every Minute on the Minute) Workouts:**
EOMOM workouts, commonly used in CrossFit, are another effective way to lose fat without doing traditional cardio. This structure involves doing a set number of reps at the start of every minute, resting for the remainder of the minute, and repeating with different exercises. It combines resistance training with cardio-like intensity, offering the benefits of both without the monotony of running on a treadmill.
    ### Conclusion
Thomas DeLauer provides multiple scientifically-backed strategies to burn fat, specifically abdominal fat, without relying on traditional cardio. By focusing on increasing NEAT, leveraging heat and cold exposure, incorporating allulose as a fat-loss sweetener, and integrating short resistance workouts or specialized fasts, individuals can significantly boost fat loss. These methods highlight the importance of staying active throughout the day and making small lifestyle adjustments rather than relying solely on structured exercise routines. For those who dislike cardio, these techniques offer alternative pathways to achieve fat loss while maintaining an enjoyable and sustainable routine.

People that don't like cardio feel that way because they overdo it. Zone 2 cardio is the best because it allows you to do cardio for an extended period of time without the pain/injury. After an hour or more your body will tell you when it's time to stop well before the point of being exhausted and or injured.

I hate cardio. I’ve done it as easy as walking to as hard as running. All of it is boring and not fun. I don’t want to spend my very little spare time to something I don’t like doing.

There's no right or wrong way, but anyone who thinks cardio means "an hour or more" (as shown below) is stupid or being very hyperbolic. 20-30 minutes of cardio is simply good for the heart and mental health, moreso than just lifting weights. That's science. It is boring to most people, I get it. I work from home, getting to the gym wasn't often possible, and dropped the money on a pretty good elliptical that's aimed right at a TV. I turn on one of my favorite shows or movies hop on for a quick 20 minute session, it flies by. It's also dumb to think they have to do cardio AND lift weights the same day to complain about time. It's not hard to setup a routine to alternate, work certain muscle groups and mix in cardio 2-3 days a week.

I was a little concerned about how much allulose I consume. I make 3 quarts of different teas ( Grreen/Oolong/Pu-erh; Hibiscus/Peppermint /Chamomile/Peppermint) a day and use allulose. I use it with honey in my coffee also. It's my only sweetner, except raw honey. I go through a 5lb bag pretty darn fast.

I wanna LOVE allulose but find my stomach gets wrecked. I eat keto and meat and bacon and eggs with small amount of veggies gets to me after awhile. So I purchased allulose and was juicing a lemon and then adding allulose and a touch of salt and it was heavenly! It satisfies a certain taste pathway for me and the other was drinking Core Power protein drinks which taste like vanilla ice cream to me. These two foods daily and I don't feel like I am missing something as each day I get my savory and sweet and tangy and salty and its why I wanna love allulose...sad!

Wait so do you use allulose or not? I find erythritol absolutey wrecks my. Immediate bloating and gastrointestinal distalluloi tried monkfruit but i felt like it felt "heavy" like i could notice it in the meal and in my stomach but not really bloating. I dont like that. Stevia extract is the only sweetener that doesnt really have side effects for me. So im wondering how i would react to allulose. Even then, ive just moved to honey. Half a tbsp is plenty of sweetness for me and it is low carb. As for the sugar, it is the only sugar i will ever allow from a food, and there is good literature that it behaves differently in the body and has compounds that counteract the typical sugar response, plus all the other benefits that come from honey (suggestive in reducing visceral fat)

    • @Flowmada
      @Flowmada Місяць тому

Allulose has never had the issue for me. I do know it follows the same pathway as sugar and actually can lower some people's blood sugar depending on the person for this reason. Perhaps that has something to do with it? I would think drinking it alongside a meal might help alleviate the issue a bit? I absolutely love Core Power protein as well. The higher protein ones not as much as they taste more artificial/fake for more whey protein being added. The regular ones are great and basically like a milkshake. Do you own a Ninja Cremi or ice cream maker? I heard simply pouring one in without anything else makes some of the best tasting ice cream. Almost like a Wendy's frosty.

@@Flowmada was thinking the same thing as you. If artificial sweeteners are in fact causing insulin secretion as so many videos state then why are low carb doctors not prescribing it? If you use splenda on an empty stomach and it raises insulin then that means it lowers your blood sugar....that is a miracle drug LOL but you cant market that. Anyway so much crazy stuff out there its enough to make you feel bat crazy! Like Carnivores saying...if you drop all carbs your insulin drops to nothing....no that is in no way what happens but these doctors push that idea.
And agreed the Core Power 26 way are better than the 42. I dont own a ninja but what I do is freeze em a bit and they are just amazing!

Wow! That's impressive work Jodi! I know the belly fat can be hard to loose. I had huge success with diet - and by that I mean eating the RIGHT foods but NOT necessarily eating less (I was actually eating more quantity overall).
Years ago I was diagnosed with sudden onset of hyperglycemia and diabetes resulting from major stressors in life, mostly all related to crippling pain from back/hip injuries, and trying to just get thru the day was impossible. So I couldn't exercise AT ALL!. I did some research (this was 20 yrs ago so there wasn't much help out there) and managed to loose 40 pounds in 4 months (most of it around the gut) and eventually "reversed" my diabetes.
There's tons of info here on Thomas's channel and on the web about ways to do it. I think maybe you just gotta find what works for you. You obviously have the ability to commit, based on your incredible success so far. Best of luck to you! 👍

I'm almost 40 years old, but unless you are in a profession you absolutely love - I would think you would want to be walking around enjoying life in a park, nature, or something away from a desk? Congrats on losing 130 lbs at your age, that is no easy feat. I do like to look beyond the simple diet/exercise component of life and that extends to quality of life, as in, not being stuck at a desk for 50 hours a week. As I get older, I also realize that it seems like such a privilege for people to make it into their 70s sometimes. I hope to make it to 70 one day like yourself and capable of walking around with goals to remain active/healthy. Take care Jodi. I wish you all the best maam

I can’t attribute any belly fat loss to cardio. I walk on the treadmill to get back my ability to walk. Between back/pelvic pain and shortness of breath, I found that post-Covid, I could only walk 1/3 mile! At 74, that was unacceptable-Looking forward a decade, could I even cross a parking lot?
So I have worked my way up over maybe 8 months, to 1-1/2 mile. Over time, I hope to get up to 3 miles at least. I’ve started walking outside as well, but the weather and air pollution in my area don’t always cooperate.
I’ve taken hot baths for years, and my belly has only gotten bigger!
I don’t enjoy strict carnivore, I tried intermittent fasting and lost a pound of muscle and gained MORE belly fat. I do saunas in cold weather but I haven’t found any significant improvement. I don’t need allulose, I don’t eat snacks.
The only thing you mention that might help would be outdoor walking in winter, and that depends on whether the sidewalks are clear. I will let you know if it actually works.

I don’t like running, but I run to train my mind, learn to control my breathing, emotions, and I mostly enjoy taking souls at the gym. Cardio allows me to lift longer and harder with little to no rest, while keeping my heart rate high. I used to lift 225 on my shoulder press, now lucky to lift 165. But because of my cardio regiment, I run 5 first(or sprints), lift heavy(for me), hit the heavy bag sometimes between sets(or after), then play tennis for a couple of hours, etc…. Im 50. Putting on muscle is hard for me, I don’t eat enough. What I learned through Thai boxing, is that im my worst enemy, so kick the heck of myself. If I can give any advice to new lifters, strength and size is meaningless if you can’t use it beyond a 30 second lift, then rest. Why?! So you can flex?! 😂

You had me at... "I mostly enjoy taking souls and the gym"? lol That seems like a lot for 50 brother. I am almost 40 now myself, but I grew up with farmers strength, and then I worked in a lumber yard and people would come up asking me how much I could bench press or deadlift and I was always like... Never been in a gym. And they were like... How you so strong when you dont look it? And I told em... All I do is work here. Why? Do you all honestly go lift weights and then come in here to ask me how I am so strong after you've worn yourself down working out? I always was curious what the point of working out was back then... They were not as strong as me, they just looked it. However, I've also always consumed a ridiculous amount of food. I need to stop now that I am getting to my 40s. The only thing that has helped me is I joined the military and found a deep appreciation for cardio/running later on. Cause I would also never really run but was always a top 3 mile run finisher in school despite being a 230 lb fatty. I think a lot of it is the Apache blood in me. I have the same problem. I love the elliptical and I just keep trying to do it anyways but sometimes it just is so frustrating how my mind and body is constantly fighting against me in my weight loss journey. Sometimes it just feels like I take a few steps forward just to be pushed back again. Sometimes I worry that the hill is to high to climb. I just gotta keep trying though. I am thinking I should talk to a nutritionist but I am afraid they are just going to repeat anti-keto things I hear all the time.

I consumed 4 to 8 tea spoons allulose per day for two weeks. Tested my LDL, HDL, Triglycerides with a portable test kit at home. My TG stayed same (this is subjective, TG changes quickly day to day) LDL stayed the same however HDL unfortunately dropped 10 mg/dL. I can't spare HDL since it was borderline low from the start. I am increasing saturated fat from coconut to get that HDL back up again while continuing allulose. There is an uptake of HDL back to liver with allulose. Maybe some study should be thorough by looking at complete lipid profile with particle size and peroxided LDL etc. before and after consuming allulose.

Is it really conditioning the heart? Try running a mile just by lifting weight. Chances are you won't make it. Then start doing HIIT sessions and after a month try running that mile. Youll feel the difference.
Cardio conditions the heart much, much more efficiently. I did this experiment on myself.

    • @mjordan5382
      @mjordan5382 Місяць тому

@lisag18 cardio is when you increase the heart rate. All intese activities does that. Also the heart doesn't need to be trained. The heart was designed to beat for your entire life as soon as you were born. Steady state trains you to be better at that and HIT trains you to be better at HIT. I'm a personal trainer and you get cardiovascular benefits from doing high intensity with a fraction of the time

What helps me in the winter is to wear proper gear and go walking in the cold weather. You want to be in the non-shivering zone for temp so around 40F and colder. I walk a couple of miles and if there’s snow I’ll just do a mile and make my own paths in snow. The intensity and length of the walk makes a difference. Yes you burn calories but most importantly your body is trying to maintain its core temp. In turn it takes white fat and turns it to brown burning fat.

It goes for walking in cold weather as well. In 40F and colder if you walk (for a duration of time & intensity) your body works harder to maintain your core. It burns calories but it helps turn white fat to brown burning fat.

Cardio is simply good for the heart and mental health, making all these influencer videos that morons actually listen to telling them they shouldn't do cardio, irresponsible at best. Suck it up and get your cardio in, whether it's raking the yard or jumping on the machine for at least 20 minutes.

2:28 No, tell me you didn't say that. Are you really sure that 20-35% of protein injested ends up getting burned? Or did you mean that the process of digesting protein requires an equivalence of 20-35% of it's energy content to digest it? Do you see the difference? It's a big deal of a difference.
I'll say it differently: if you eat 100 calorie worth of protein, your body will need 30 calories, from somewhere in your body, to digest the 100 calories of protein. Do you see it now?
I'll say it differently: the body doesn't burn 30 calories from the protein you ate to digest the remaining 70 calories of that protein. Do you see it now?
Same for fat and carbs, which requires substentially less calories to be digested. They are not burned in the process of their own digestion. The meal doesn't burn itself to ignite the process of digestion. Hope this is clear now.

So, reframe- VILPA you can consciously change and NEAT may change but not consciously (eg- when ppl exercise more their NEAT may actually go down a bit).
