Petersen & DaFoe with Turturro for accent. Wang Chung bringing that original flavor. Pure movie magic. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I saw this movie when it came out and never got it out of my mind. It's some kind of fable about the corrosive effects of corruption, using L.A. as a backdrop and object lesson. I agree that it's very creepy and coolly atmospheric, and yet you can almost feel the sultry, smoggy SoCal air coming off the screen. Wang Chung's music is cool and driven, sensual.

Love this movie, creepy and violent and stylish for all the right reasons. And the Wang Chung soundtrack is brilliant. There is no other word that fits. The music embodies the look, feel and angst of the film. I was already a Wang Chung fan when this came out; their involvement in the soundtrack only raised my level of respect for Jack Hues and company.

Yeah, ppl sleep on Wang Chung. For most, its just 'Everybody Have Fun Tonight.' Even though 'Dance Hall Days' was 1st in the U.S. For some reason that happened alot in the 80s. There would be the 1 song that took off & then it would appear that the artist(s) dropped out of the scene. Especially with the U.K. artists. I was a legit radiohead back then, always listening to music/radio. If u werent in a fan club, an faithful music magazine reader/record shop groupie, or had cable/MTv, u often wouldnt hear from or about them again. Even might have to order albums from overseas. There would no radio airplay of anything new & they would get tagged as one hit wonders. Meanwhile, theyre still putting out new music & touring. The new ppl's heads would explode like in 'Scanners,' if they had to search to find the music & then have to wait to get it lol.
As a cynical adult looking back, it kind of seems intentional bc it happened with so many, mostly U.K. bands. Gary Numan, The Fixx, The Thompson Twins, Kate Bush, Joe Jackson, Howard Jones, Talk Talk, etc. There were actually a lot of them. A few like Tears For Fears, Billy Idol & Simple Minds would toggle back & forth marketing/airplay wise but it wasnt like in the earlier part of the 80s with the second 'British Invasion.' Im inclined to think that it wasn't a monetary thing bc they had 0 issue with throwing money on all kinds of obvious, bad ideas in the entertainment industry at that time. It was the big money, big spending decade. Idk, maybe it was a British thing. But they definitely dont spread it out like that anymore lol. Somebody said that they were so free with the funds bc everybody was high on the nose candy, so not many level headed, responsible ppl around to properly run things. That decade was like its own universe. 😄

This movie is as good as the French Connection! Incredible soundtrack. Incredible mood the film sets. Takes you back to a certain time and place. And the LA setting is great. There are only a handful of films that make you ache inside like this one, and also make you long for that era.

The music is a perfect representation of the movie, the music sounds like typical 80s music but the lyrics are actually quite dark and depressing, kinda like how the movie looks pretty but the events of the story are just very dark.

Brilliant. My only recommendation would be more footage of Debra Feuer who was stunning in this film and Darlanne Fluegel who had a key role.

    • @DarkFireFly64

@@redsilver2309 That is Vukovich, sort of "absorbing" Chance's character and becoming him. The Jeep is used to create a looping effect. He will go on to corrupt a fellow cop and the cycle will repeat. First saw the ending and I was annoyed -- then after multiple rewatches it becomes very apparent. Best 80's Thriller ever.

William Petersen was 32 when this movie was made. It would be another 15 years before he was offered the role of Dr. Gil Grissom on "CSI." He was born on February 21, 1953 in Evanston, Illinois. His middle name is Louis, and he is of Danish and German descent.

One of my favorite movies from the 80s. When I watched it again recently, I noticed a few cheesy clichés like the cop dies his last week/day on the job and cops shooting the lock off a door. Other than that, I still love the movie. Best car chase scene ever!!! I want to go back!
