Couple more questions: 1- Will the app remember the settings when you close the JBL EON unit down and turn the unit on again for the next gig ? Question 2 - Once the settings are set to your liking.....if the setting knobs get moved about during transport to the next gig, does the amp settings need to be re-set ? ....... or (as mentioned in first question) does the app remember the way you set it up in the first place regardless if the knobs get moved about from transport) ?? Thank you in advance Aaron. Obviously considering this amp for busking and small/medium venues where I can travel light and set up quickly. I've been using the original older model Roland Streetcube . Has always been reliable and does what I need for busking and small/medium venues but it is an older model. Looking for same and or/upgrade would be nice just in case my older Roland friend finally fails on me. Looked into and already tried the new Boss (Roland) Streetcube 2.............disappointed...... sounds thin, tiny , quality stinks , performance is not the same and when you go slightly pass 12 o'clock on the volume......the unit "hums and distorts". Cost of it increased.... almost $400. AND THEN ....you need to purchase the bluetooth adapter for an additional $85 and the additional purchase of a footswitch for the built in Looper / harmony ??? Freakin crazy !! Love my original Roland Street Cube and wish it was still available. I'd buy it again & again ...........Anyway this is why I'm looking elsewhere for a nice sounding , simple , light weight amp for busking , small/medium venues. Companies have got to stop looking at the "bottom line" . Give folks (especially musicians) quality, simple, easy to use gear that works on the fly without tech problems ....and we'll buy it. If it's already good .....don't freakin change it !

Hello, along with saying hello and congratulations on your channel, I wanted to know if you know what happens with cold weather, why many friends have problems with charging the battery or turning on the eon one compact. greetings from Chile 🇨🇱
Thank you and hello back! I have heard of a couple of people saying that extreme weather can affect this unit but I feel that they are talking about EXTREME weather that would affect any piece of equipment. I have not experienced this in NYC and do not know of anyone personally that had this issue. Have you experienced this? I know that there has been several firmware updates so I would check with JBL if you have any doubt.
Aaron - great video. Really helpful! I have a question: one is what is the difference between EQ and EQ - Out. The other which would perhaps warrant a separate video would be what is the process of identifying troublesome frequencies with the parametric EQ: how do you start? The width slider is confusing. Do you start and bass or treble and start sliding and finding a spot that is nasty, or is there a more rational system?
Hi I’m not sure and I am not making videos on this app now as I heard they are moving the Compact to the JBL Pro Connect app so the videos will soon be outdated.
Love the video. My unit just arrived yesterday. I'm having lots of problems getting the effects to work correctly from the app. The reverb works fine from the controls on the unit but not consistently from the app. Sometimes, I set the reverb to 0 on a channel and still hear it strongly. And I can almost never get the delay or chorus to work. Got delay working briefly but then it stopped working. And the chorus has never worked. Even in your video, it is very hard to hear any chorus. I don't need the chorus feature but I'm wondering if I got a defective unit or whether delay and chorus just don't work properly on all the units. I don't want to request a replacement if the replacement will be the same. Have you had trouble getting the effects to work using the app? Thanks again for a great video.
@@aaronshortmusic Yes. It took a really long time and actually didn't work in my first attempt. But it worked in my second attempt. So I'm on the lastest version now.
Dave Weber OK double check that and then forget it from the Bluetooth and restart your phone. Try again and see if it works. If not then reach out to JBL support.
Thanks for this video... nice to have a idea of the jbl quality ! I have a question you say in a another video that you have a K&K system installed of your guitar ..Can you tell me which model please ?
Hi Aron, thankyou. I am wondering a couple of things.... 1/ how long is the "large reverb"? Would you say it has a reverb tail of 5 seconds? More? Less? I ask because I perform ambient music and need a longer reverb tail than usual for flute and vocals. The reverb is really important. I usually use cathedral reverbs that are quite lengthy. 2/ I couldn't quite see in the video, can the delay time be set to be longer, like say 1000milisecond (spacious)? Or is the only the delay repeat/feedback number that's adjustable? 3/ I love the EQ options - I mic my Chinese gong which fundamental note is around 60hz, do you think that the speaker really can handle frequencies that low, especially if that frequency is EQ boosted? If yes, that is quite remarkable! 4/ last one! Does the app save your settings, or do you need to start from scratch each time? Thanks very much. Kind regards!
Another reason why they should fix the jbl sound chime when it connects to your phone. I was playing around with the EQ and set the bass really low and for some reason the trademark jbl sound that it makes when it links up is always at high volume so it clipped really bad when I linked it up again even though the volume was low on my phone (I think it's dependant on the gain set on the speaker so make sure that's set at low and u should be fine)
Thanks! Got my EQ back to normal :) It's a powerful tool, but performane without knowledge is poor. Haven't found any other tutorial video yet which helps me that much. Cheers
Big thanks Aaron for your instructions. I just bought one. I will be using it mostly on Bluetooth and mic for karaoke, i would like to know whats the best preset for the mic to produce (almost) natural voice sound. Thanks
Thanks for the video Aaron. I was wondering, once you have set up the eq in the app, does the JBL compact retain the settings if you turn your phone off or exit the app?
Hi Aaron, Just caught this as I'm about to purchase one....but I was wondering if you linked 2 units can they run as a balanced stereo speakers? And, would it now be an 8 channel PA? Thank you.
Hi Aaron, I have watched this video now 5 times and every time I watch it, I learn something new. Thanks for making this video. I play piano and just bought JBL EON ONE COMPACT speaker last week and connected it via Head Phone jack from my keyboard to channel 1 of the speaker. I noticed difference between the sound when I hear it from my headphone vs JBL speaker. JBL speaker sounds to have very low bass and the loudness is not enough. What I may be doing wrong? Can you pls help if I am connection is incorrect or anything to do with effects? Appreciate your response.
Thanks for your kind words! Sometimes the headphone out is not ideal. What is the model of your keyboard? Also your headphones may have excessive bass. For the volume try setting the JBL to ‘Mic’ level.

Hi Aaron. Thanks for your video. I hesitated a long time before purchasing the JBL eon one compact, which was on sale here. Do you think it's possible to make it sound like the bose s1 pro by setting the EQ? I'm gonna wait to try it and I might exchange it for the bose. What would be your recommendation? I only play acoustic guitar and sing. I don't have or plan to buy any preamp/mixer or pedals. Would the bose be better in that case?
Hi Louis. So you have not tried it yet? I really don’t understand why some people choose the S1 over the JBL. The S1 is a great compact unit but the JBL has SO many more features and with some guitars I cannot get a good sound from the S1 but I can from the JBL. It all depends on your guitar and playing style. Try it and let us know what you think.
@@aaronshortmusic (Its me but on my phone) Maybe it has to do with simplicity. You're professional musician which makes you find extra tunability of the amp a big plus. But for someone that just wants a sound that sounds better without having to tune for each scenario, a S1 pro might be better, especially with tonematch (not sure if you made use of that in your tests). Your singing in the update video using the s1 pro sounded absolutely amazing. Anyway, I don't want to judge solely by online videos so I am waiting to try and see by myself whether the JBL sound can sound crisp and clear without any pedal, preamp, or mixer. I will keep you updated! Thanks for your awesome video, I love them!

Hi Aaron..Just a quick query if possible. On the P.A there's a 'Mic/Line' switch which illuminates Orange. I just wondered when you select the button 'on' (illuminated'), is that ready for Mic or Line?
@@bennyhill3505 You can also just use your ears. The setting that is much louder is the mic setting as a mic preamp has more db’s in order to amplify a low level mic signal.

Hy Aaron, thanks a lot for your great reviews about this JBL ONE COMPACT. I've got a question about FX effects. Can you put some REVERB only on CHANNEL 1, and CHORUS only on CHANNEL 2, for exemple ? Can you affect different effects on each channel, or does what you set on effects goes to every channels with only a graduation on each channel ?
@@aaronshortmusic Thanks a lot Aaron. I finally succeeded to see this on the app. But I guess you can't, for exemple, put a MEDIUM DELAY on CHANNEL 1, and a SMALL DELAY on CHANNEL 2. Can you ?
DEN You have to set the effect and then you can set how much of it is on each channel. You can’t have a completely different delay on each channel, just different amounts.
Hello Aron, I want the EQ setting to play music from TV/I phone through Bluetooth, for now am using this unit for basic purpose, thanks waiting for your reply
What is the Sensor button for? And is the Snapshots tab a place to save EQ settings, say for different guitars? When do you plan on trying it out at a gig?
@@aaronshortmusic Thanks. In the gig will you be connecting with cables? Also, dies the master EQ override the channel EQs for sending out, or mix with them?
Paul Ashley The Master EQ is for the global sound and the channel EQ is to fine tune each instrument. At a gig I would be plugging in the TC Play Acoustic as I use the looper and harmonies.
@@aaronshortmusic Will the Play Acoustic act as a preamp so that you won't be able to assess how the low instrument gain affects gigging cabled without a preamp?
Paul Ashley It will but much QSC K8.2 needs a preamp too. It’s all down to your guitars pickup. The most important thing is how loud can the JBL get while still sounding good.
hi Aaron thanks for this vid, would like to ask in the app what does "sensor" button do? also what is the difference between "fx send" and "return level"? thanks!
Hey. Sensor is for the ducking feature (on or off). The effects send and return are how effects are mostly used in a studio. The send is how much of the effect is being sent to the master effects engine and the return is how much is sent back to the master fader. You would then set each channels effect amount. The good thing about this is that if you change the effect send and return it will affect all of the channels equally so if you want less reverb on everything you can reduce the send/return and if you only want to reduce the reverb on channel 1 then just turn the effect level down on that channel. I hope that makes sense.
thanks Aaron, is it something like i can just set the return to nothing so i dont put fx on the master fader then just adjust the send on each channel so i have full control on what goes to each channel? also can i adjust effects per channel (reverb on vocals only then chorus on guitar) or the fx is global and you can just adjust amount per channel?
@@gethlunario Sorry I did not explain it very well but yes you can have totally independent effects for each channel. Just click on each effect and you will see the sends on the left of the screen change. I would just set the send and return to noon and then use your ears to see what sounds right for each effect. Then you can use that return level as a master effects volume for all of the effects.
I think maybe the demo screen is different with the actual? coz i dont have the eon one compact yet, thus maybe you are looking at a different screen, can you please double checl with yours?
Hi, I don’t understand what the big eq buttons represent. Like number 6 for bass 1 for treble, etc. Maybe do u know more about it or have watched a video or page explaining this? Thanks
Hy Aaron, around your reviews about JBL ONE COMPACT, I watched your UNBOXING video, this one about EFFECTS, a last one where you COMPARE the JBL ONE and the BOSE PRO 1, but I can't find the video you was talking about, witch would present your conclusions on the JBL ONE COMPACT. Have you post such a review in the end ?
No but I did not change my mind. It’s an excellent speaker with fantastic features. The S1 is also a great option depending on your needs. I have both!
@@aaronshortmusic Thanks a lot. I like the JBL ONE because I need to plug a mic for my trumpet (witch does need a fantom power, then in channel 1), a mic for voices (channel 2 I guess), and a guitare (channel 3 I suppose). Hi Aaron just want to know if i can hook up the jbl eon one compact to bose s1 pro so can put more sound for ourdoor use. i like the features of jbl so planning to get one instead of another s1 pro. many thanks.
There is a big flaw in this unit. If you for whatever reason don’t want to us the app and just want to use the dials on the unit you can not get any reverb. In order to get the reverb you must use the app. This is unacceptable. I was rushed setting up for a gig and just wanted to get some basic channel settings for two horns and no reverb!! Why have a dial for reverb on the unit if it is non functional? Is this a one-off for my unit or are they all like this? Judging from some forums I read it appears to be the way the unit is set up.
I have never experienced this. Having said that, the physical reverb control is a ‘send’ control. It will not work if you have turned the reverb off in the app. It may make sense if they allowed the physical control to override the app but that may annoy some people as they would lose any reverb settings that they dialed in. If it happens again just open the app and make sure it’s not set to zero or off and you will be able to control it from the physical control.
Hi Aaron - how suitable is this JBL Eon COmplact for a singer\guitarist using backing tracks? (i.e. sing\play guitar and backings with bass\perc and keys)
My delay seems not to work at all, the reverb works, I haven't tried chorus because I don't need it. Is there any bug that you know of that would cause delay not to work? Seems strange, no other obvious glitches. I suppose I could call JBL if I had to, have to call at night from Thailand.
Hi Aaron, got one today. Volume is lower than expected. It starts to clip at quite low volume if bass is turned up. How can I increase overall volume with decent bass? Any suggestions
If you set a reverb, for example, do you have to connect the Bluetooth and launch the app the next time you use the speaker in order to have that sound. In other words, does it always default to the on board effects and eq when you power on?
@@aaronshortmusic to be clear, if I set the desired eq and reverb through the app, the next time I power on the jbl it will retain those settings WITHOUT having to launch the app?
@@aaronshortmusic Thank you so much for clarifying this! I thought the extended eq and effects were in the app, but they're actually in the jbl unit, you just need the app to set them up. That's incredible! Thanks again
You must install the app and connect to the speaker and then you can add reverb and delay to your voice. You can also control the reverb directly from the unit but the app gives more options and control.
Aaron Short Music karaoke has a function called echo as a way to make singers voice sound more pleasant. I’ll try your way to see if it works. Thank you for your help.
Thach Vo I know what you mean. I would try the reverb and also the reverb and delay to see which you prefer. The reverb and delay can thicken the voice and make it sound fuller.
Can it hit at least 45hz loud (highly doubt for 37hz) or it is just another marketing trick where it can go to 37,5 which is actually unhearable and pointless to point put as huge advantage.
What is the lowest frequency you can choose in the eq ? Can you select frequencies under 40hz to protect for example the woofer for too low excursions at high volumes like a kind of subsonic filter which can produce even less distorsion on some music?
Input 3 is hi-z for passive instruments but input 1and 2 has the mic setting which gives the most gain so I am using that input if I want to achieve the most volume without an external preamp.
Aaron Short Music thanks so much. Great channel! Very informative. I’m using mine for the first time on Saturday. I’ll report back. How did your first gig go ?
Hey Aaron, nice walk through. One of the things I look for in apps/utilities is the ability to get a fair amount of performance without touching a TON of buttons or using every feature. As a vocalist, I'm somewhat picky and all of these controls could bring the monster out in me! What is your feeling about this interface in broader brush strokes? Maybe not all default settings, but maybe a good bit half of what you were fiddling with. Still deliver in your opinion?
I agree. This app is incredible for shaping tone but obviously that isn’t something I would do at a gig. The good news is that the treble and bass controls on the unit allow basic adjustment and then the app can be used for more detailed dialing in. I think they did a great job over all.
@@aaronshortmusic Well, I bought the unit and the software side has left me - and several other recent adopters - hanging! Check our app store feedback, but the net-net is an ability to engage with the hardware at all beyond a simple bluetooth connect. All of the "treasures" locked in the box, remain in the box leaving "just another" PA. Have you heard anything or better yet, a fix?
@@aaronshortmusic I've tried both a larger 6s AND the new 2020 SE. Neither got much more than a sniff of what's behind the curtain. I only saw anything more than the DEMO screens one time! I just threw a note into the abyss at JBL to see if there's any fix. If it was just me, it'd be one thing but several of us in the past month have had identical experiences.
Mark Morton I do have to wait around 30 seconds for it to connect but then it’s fine. I wonder if the iPhone 11 has a more advanced Bluetooth chip than the iPhones that you are using and maybe JBL have not tested with the SE mode that was just released. I would try to borrow another iPhone or iPad to test it if possible.
hello question can you keep the AC Power cord in All the Time JBL Eon one compacts during extended performances? just want to be sure it will not damage speaker?
Thank you again for your videos ! In regard to the fx section of the JBL I think its important to note that all of the effects are applied globally. This is the one thing I find a bit disappointing as while I would use chorus and maybe a little delay for guitar on occasion however I would not regularly use chorus and delay for vocals. It would be nice to be able to have only a bit of reverb on the vocal channel and a little chorus on the guitar channel. For me the only use for a global effect would be the reverb - which kind of negates the other effects in the JBL and puts it in the same category as the Bose :)
Harry, this is actually not correct. Each effect can be assigned to each channel individually! Just click on the effect and assign the levels for each channel. It is not obvious but it works!
Welcome to the world of JBL! I bought an Eon One two years ago. The Mic Preamps were pathetically bad. Well, in a few months JBL admitted a problem, and paid for a repair/fix. I had to drive 100 miles to get it done, though. I'm in North Carolina, USA. That improved the mic preamp volume about 25%. Still mediocre. But I decided to keep it, as if use a line out from my Mackie ProFX6V3 mixer, I get terrific sound, rich and high fidelity, with excellent volume. Then last year along came with Eon One Pro, which boasted "much improved mic pre-amps." Well, I wasn't about to trade my Eon One for it. A couple of months ago they dropped the price for the Eon One Pro by about $400! Why, I wonder! The Eon One is big, fat, ugly and heavy, so it has made itself at home in our large kitchen/dining area so there it will stay! :) Whatever. I have one other PA speaker, the Bose S1 Pro. The volume from a direct input into a mic input gives about the same volume as the Eon One. But to have a singing party with about a dozen people, it is quite adequate. The S1 Pro lacks phantom power, perhaps because on stage condenser mics are so feedback prone. I'm happy using a Beta SM58 dynamic mic.
Lifesaver! I was totally lost and JBL assumes buyer to be Pro to understand all these.

Yes the settings will be stored!

It delivered just fine. I’ll post a full review soon.
First thing. Did you update the firmware via the app??
@@aaronshortmusic Yes. It took a really long time and actually didn't work in my first attempt. But it worked in my second attempt. So I'm on the lastest version now.
Dave Weber OK double check that and then forget it from the Bluetooth and restart your phone. Try again and see if it works. If not then reach out to JBL support.

Hi Aaron, Thanks for all you do. Will the mixer app work with Android phones or just with Iphones/ipads ?
Thank you. It works on both!
@@aaronshortmusic Thanks Aaron ! Seems lto be so many details you have to look into before purchasing new gear.
Heather. The maximum reverb time is 3 seconds and the delay time is 600ms.
@@aaronshortmusic Thanks Aaron. Appreciate your help.
Cheers

Hi Aaron, I have watched this video now 5 times and every time I watch it, I learn something new. Thanks for making this video. I play piano and just bought JBL EON ONE COMPACT speaker last week and connected it via Head Phone jack from my keyboard to channel 1 of the speaker.
Hi Aaron did you notice that if you plug a headphone, the main speaker will mute?
is this the same with your unit too?

@@aaronshortmusic Thanks a lot Aaron. I finally succeeded to see this on the app. But I guess you can't, for exemple, put a MEDIUM DELAY on CHANNEL 1, and a SMALL DELAY on CHANNEL 2. Can you ?

What is the Sensor button for?
And is the Snapshots tab a place to save EQ settings, say for different guitars?
When do you plan on trying it out at a gig?
The sensor is to turn the ducking on or off. Yes you can save your settings to a snapshot. I will try to test it on Saturday at my gig.
@@gethlunario Yes I’m using the demo mode right now as well. Make sure you go to the effects section and click on each effect.
Can I have separate FX on each channel or all the effects chosen apply to all the channels?
You can have different amounts of the effect on each channel.
Be nice if more reviews were not about k and k.
I have a guitar with a battery.
What is the unit actually like?
I think the K&K is more of a challenge for these systems, that’s why I chose it for the demo. Your active pickup should work even better.

How do you form a guitar loop. Gav
With an external pedal.
Hi Aaron - how suitable is this JBL Eon COmplact for a singer\guitarist using backing tracks? (i.e. sing\play guitar and backings with bass\perc and keys)
Hi Gary, it’s great for that! The 8” speaker and app mixer should allow you to dial it in really well.
My delay seems not to work at all, the reverb works, I haven't tried chorus because I don't need it. Is there any bug that you know of that would cause delay not to work? Seems strange, no other obvious glitches. I suppose I could call JBL if I had to, have to call at night from Thailand.
There is a new app now. You could ‘upgrade’ to that. I am using the EV Everse 8 now.
Hi Aaron, got one today. Volume is lower than expected. It starts to clip at quite low volume if bass is turned up. How can I increase overall volume with decent bass? Any suggestions
See my Eon Tips and Tricks video.
Just curious. On the input mixer tab, underneath the mic/line stuff is a “button” that says sensor. What is that?
That is for the ‘ducking’ feature. It lowers the music when someone talks.
If you set a reverb, for example, do you have to connect the Bluetooth and launch the app the next time you use the speaker in order to have that sound. In other words, does it always default to the on board effects and eq when you power on?
It always loads up the last settings.
@@aaronshortmusic to be clear, if I set the desired eq and reverb through the app, the next time I power on the jbl it will retain those settings WITHOUT having to launch the app?

Can you please tell how do I do echo for karaoke for this speaker????

You must install the app and connect to the speaker and then you can add reverb and delay to your voice. You can also control the reverb directly from the unit but the app gives more options and control.
Aaron Short Music is that the same thing as echo? Because I don’t see an echo feature. Thank you btw!
Thach Vo I’m not quite sure what you mean by echo but it’s probably either reverb, delay or both of them at once.
Can it hit at least 45hz loud (highly doubt for 37hz) or it is just another marketing trick where it can go to 37,5 which is actually unhearable and pointless to point put as huge advantage.
because my tablet is not compatible with this application is it Android?
Yes iOS and Android.
What is the lowest frequency you can choose in the eq ? Can you select frequencies under 40hz to protect for example the woofer for too low excursions at high volumes like a kind of subsonic filter which can produce even less distorsion on some music?
If you download the app you can use it in demo mode and you can try the EQ section.
Algún tutorial en español de esto mismo , please!!
Sería bueno , que el vídeo sea en Español !!!
Also the manual says I put 3 is for an instrument. Are you using input 1 or 2 for the guitar? Do you hear a difference with input 3?
Input 3 is hi-z for passive instruments but input 1and 2 has the mic setting which gives the most gain so I am using that input if I want to achieve the most volume without an external preamp.
Aaron Short Music thanks so much. Great channel! Very informative. I’m using mine for the first time on Saturday. I’ll report back. How did your first gig go ?

Hi is this aap is work with jbl free buds
Hi, I don’t think so no.
Mark Morton I do have to wait around 30 seconds for it to connect but then it’s fine.
I don't know how to tune my speaker for edm music 🤣
Neither do I! Lol :-)
