  • Following questions raised about the increase in the budget for the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and what purpose it serves, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad has clarified that the allocation for RFMF in the 2024/2025 National Budget also includes peacekeeping so it is not an increase in $60 million as being claimed.

The RFMF's job is to protect our country, whether it's wartime or peacetime. As a sovereign nation, we've got to have trained soldiers ready to go, whether they're on peacekeeping missions or in training camps, because they're the ones protecting our constitution. Spending $160 million on their training and equipment maintenance is crucial, and it's definitely not a waste. The military teaches discipline and builds character, which is something we can all appreciate.
Now, as citizens, we might not always agree on where our money should go, but it's important to remember that these investments ultimately benefit all of us. We can't predict future invasions or wars, but that doesn't mean we should be unprepared. We've got to keep supporting our protectors and make sure they have the best, most up-to-date weapons and equipment.
Think about it: would you rather have a well-trained and well-equipped military that can handle any situation, or take a chance and hope we never face any threats? It's about being proactive and ensuring our safety and sovereignty.

Thank you for telling the truth. RFMF has been overly allocated a huge percentage of the total allocated budget. For what purpose? Fiji is not at war with any country? 160 million to the RFMF is a rip off!!! Imagine using at least 90 million from that $160 million to renovate and build the rotten CWM hospital or expand road infrastructure to cater for the huge amount of vehicles in Fiji or to put that money into schools for scholarships etc etc. We've been over allocating the RFMF budget for too long now. It needs to be stopped. Even with the last govt, RFMF budget wasn't even properly vetted and properly audited, they were given the most in the budget. All you are doing is aiding and abetting future coups for Fiji. We need to cut out the root and it starts here in the budget.

We don't need a gardener in a war, but we need a soldier in a garden. All Fijian citizens should be well prepared for the near future.
Vinaka coalition government for RFMF budget.

160 MIL FOR THE RFMF !!! ABSOLUTE WASTE 🤦🏽‍♂️ Imagine if we put $100 million on improving bus shelters or even increasing the social welfare benefit

i believe that the RFMF and FPF are indirectly linked to the economy of Fiji. For instance, if you see in times of need (most commonly in disasters) these same RFMF and FPF come up for safety. Additionally, because of RFMF and FPF we civilians are safe and also our economy, those officers spend their day and night just for our safety, Fiji's safety. Hence, because of them our productivity is good. So, please stop saying what productivity RFMF gains with the economy.

160 million for the RFMF is a rip-off. Better to use half of their allocated budget on our rotten CWM hospital and get it renovated and properly built inside and out from the old ceilings to the toilets and bathrooms to the individual rooms etc etc.
