A man called Steve Jones, Apache pilot instructor, wrote an article in The Telegraph about training Haz, so yes, he was trained as an apache pilot, but he was deployed as a gunner/co pilot

The Army Air Corps now has a pilot. Apache trained, no. But air ambulance yes. Not to be taken lightly. Some landings to get close to a patient can be a lot more than just tricky. Harry is not a qualified helicopter pilot, he was a helicopter commander because if his position which means your a gunner not a pilot. Why he wears the wings of a pilot is another position story, as are the medals he wears, 5 in total he has, one he doesn't wear as daddy gave it to him and 3 were family giveaways and the last is a general service medal near everyone got given. None are anything to do with any sort of valour whilst he plays look how brave I am.

I have no doubt that the members of the Army Air Corps are delighted that the Prince of Wales is their new Colonel in Chief. Bunker H didn’t cover himself in glory in spite of what Michael said. By the way, there doesn’t appear to have been much mention of Invictus on this quasi royal tour.
