  • This is said to be a quality remake of the original French Besson Brevete, with Kanstul reportedly taking some of the finer playing original vintage French Besson Meha and Brevete horns, forming a mandrel from the original French Besson bells and then using these mandrel for these Kanstul Brevete and Meha horns. This is a fine playing very nice horn! :)

Many thanks! Lovely horn here; Kanstul really did a great job on this model. And it's always great to hear from you. :)

I sold it a few months back. Generally, not always but often, my horns will come up for sale shortly after their video. Here's my page at Reverb with some listings now... reverb.com/shop/jonathans-brass-emporium

I really enjoyed the comparison between the Benge and Brevete! similar indeed...which model was that Greg Black piece? That one seemed to have a lot of shimmer to it! Thanks, Andy

The Greg Black piece is an umarked custom piece. the tight backbore and smaller, thicker rim takes getting used to, but it’s an impressive piece. :)

I bought one last year locally it does sound good for $200. It had the made in France on the second valve area. I sent it to the philippines along with some of the trumpets I bought so the kids can play in the band if they can afford to buy one.

Great review Jonathan. I have read that the Benge 3X is almost an exact comparison to the Besson Brevete in blow, sound and feel. I just picked one up and am enjoying the horn so far.

Heather; thank you for commenting. This was indeed a very nice horn, and I like my Benge 4x; two very fine players. :)

I've got the exact same trumpet, Besson Brevete, made by Kanstul with loads of small Red Rod spots on the leadpipe (bought from Trent Austin). The guys at BAC Music just made me an exact copy of that leadpipe, which I will have installed in a few weeks. Love that trumpet. Super responsive and a lot of fun to play. Also very light, in Comparison to my B&S Challenger II with heavy bottom caps.

Dieter; Thanks for commenting! Yes; it does have a lighter feel. And such a nice tone! :)
