Barry got emotionally burnt by Eobard Thawne / Harrison Wells. He was in a relationship with him. He found out he was sleeping with his most deadliest and hated enemy. His love and passion turned into rage. Barry thought he got over Thawne, then he ran into Harrison Wells from Earth 2, man who is the polar opposite of Eobard Thawne, in every way. Harry feels the attraction between Barry and himself, but, thanks, to Thawne, he's going nowhere fast, with Barry. Barry wants be loved by Harry and love him in return. If he's going get any closure, he's got face him ex-lover. So he's going back in time to confront him. So, Barry can go forward with Harry, both emotionally and partnership wise.
