in my experience having a friend who writes music, his songs are written. then maybe six months later the demos are made, then maybe another six months later the song is finalized. then the band listens and decides what changes to make, then one or two months later the new demo is produced. then the producer demos it until it's done. so in my experience, the song is edited for as long as it takes to be done. there is no science to it, and no equation. there is a song i know is about me and it's been 14 months and it's still in production, so people need to chill
