Cool, a lot of commands I wasn't aware of. I think the next video in this series will interest me the most though. Seeing what all you can do from the SD2IEC. I pretty much just always just follow the instructions that came with it

Thank you for the Commodore video! I really like your dip switch mod on the 2nd cartridge. I have my real Epyx Fastload cartridge from 1984 and a 2nd real one from a "Huge C128 lot" I bought on Ebay a few months ago to get the 1581drive and a 256K and 512K Commodore REU's. I have had a SD2IEC for about 3 years now from TFW8BIT and love it. I have added a C128D, SX-64, plus/4 and C16 to my collection over the last 6 months so I ordered a new SD2IEC from them that has 3 kinds of power input so it will work with all those machines. They are the C64's Cassette port, plus/4's cassette port and a user port to use with the SX-64 and C128D.

Epyx fastloader, while better than nothing, is one of the slower fastloaders. Outside of installing Jiffy, a FC3+SD2IEC combo cart is probably the best you could hope for considering the limited number of fastloaders the SD2IEC firmware supports at the present time.

does anyone know if I would be able to use just the SD2IEC portion of this on its own WITHOUT the fastload? my plan was to save projects I make on the MSSIAH cartridge onto an SD card, but if this thing grabs its power through the cartridge port itself then it's obviously not doable as MSSIAH is already plugged in there. any ideas?
It's possible, when it's not plugged into the cartridge port it works just like a vanilla SD2IEC (without the fastload). But you need to supply it power - there is a header on the board for supplying it with an external 5V.
Been making these for a while, they are pretty good, I have a Pi1541 epyx fasterload and yes I actually have the now impossible to get pizero for it, and i never use it. I also have jiffy dos and I just find these things easier to use unless there is something that specifically doesnt work. In that case, Ill get out the pi1541, but i find the whole lcd mounting clunky and annoying. For the most part games that dont work on the sd2iec/fastloader.. ill just copy the images to real disks from it rather than dig out a slow. If its slow as a 1541 why not just use a 1541. Dont see the point of the dips tbh since its something you almost never do. If some1 is gonna waste time reversing to make yet another sd2iec, i think they should put their time into making a pi1541 alternative that uses an inexpensive and easily available SBC and making it open source if they think thats important.
Agreed. For stuff that doesn't work I'd rather copy it to actual disks rather than using the pi1541. Sure you can speed up the pi1541 with JiffyDOS, assuming you also have Jiffy in your C64, chances are you probaly also have JiffyDOS in your 1541 so why not use that and bathe in the nostalgia.

Yup there is an interesting sd2iec alternative that i have thrown together which is an sd2iec kernel cart combo. Same closed design, would be simple to reverse, but lets you put 8 kernels on the thing. It ezihooks to the 6510 and you can put jiffydos, dead test, or jupiter lander on it lol.

Thanks for the offer, but I already sourced a replacement for the 7 key. You might want to check out the retroleum website, he usually has spare keys available at a reasonable price

That sucks. Yeah I had to keep checking back for about a year to see if the 7 key for my machine was back in stock, eventually it was. Appreciate the offer but I have no need for another 7 key, maybe one day you'll come across a C64C missing a 7 key
