The tonnage of the Russian aircraft carriers is misleading because it does not include the weight of her ever present, escort tug boats.
I probably would have included the USS Lexington on this list considering what monsters it and the USS Saratoga were prior to WWII. Both were 888 ft long and close to 40k tons.
The USS Forrestal, (as old as it is) has a bigger strike wing than most "carriers" today. Personally my book for what makes a carrier a carrier is that it must be able to cover all air needs, meaning AWACS/AEW(Air Early Warning), Anti-air(all non-ballistic), anti-sub, and full load launches. Frankly, the majority of aircraft carriers on this list are just that, ships that carry aircraft, in the same sense they are only better than an arleigh burke because they have a larger airwing(if tomahawks and seasparrows dont count). most ships lack the AEW, and Full load launch capability, meaning that they cant be in their own battle group, moving them from being the tip of the spear to the shaft merely supporting it. The point of an aircraft carrier is first and foremost as a deterence, but its tough to call it one when a US or French carrier battle group could locate and intercept you(insert foreign battle group) before you even knew that there was a threat.
All needs in one ship = compromise and limitations. Just look at the Brits: they designed their carriers to do a Falkland Islands campaign, about as much as they will bite off again on their own 1v1. As such it can carry hundreds of Royal Marines, but at the cost of ski-jump instead of CATOBAR.
I find it interesting the amount of modern carriers that utilize the ski-jump design.
I think it’s because it just works, why spend billions on a launch system when a ramp does the same thing
That's amazing my step dad, here in Virginia got to work on the USS Nimitz and Theodore roosevelt. Pretty epic.
Great work on the video!
Small observation, the Midway never had F-14s deployed on it. She went from F-4s directly to F/A-18s because of the height of the hanger bay. She did test Tomcats and recovered a couple of CVN-65's in the 80's.
Again, well done video! Thank you!
I appreciate the video, if you ever remake this, do not that you left out some carriers. Shinano, Wolverine, Ranger, and others. Those are who I can think of right now...I'd gladly go into more detail if this gets expanded apon.
just goes to show how terrifying the Kido Butai must have been, their ships being larger than some modern carriers
...and I have here found the total number of heavy carriers used during the fleets of the WW2. There were 72 hulls, with one-third of them lost. 76 hulls more were carriers cancelled, uncompleted or put to service already after the war. Within the latter figure are included e/g the Graf Zeppelin, the Aquila and many others. ♍🇵🇱👍
@@InfoRanker You know, carriers are my favourites. A true wonder od the last century; multi-faced class of warships. One would consider them a Japanese class because of Shinano and Akagi, somebody else - a British class because of Hermes and Eagle, third person - an American class because of Essexes. To me the class is... German, because of Graf Zeppelin. ♍👍
That is awesome!... I been on 3 aircraft carrriers I been interested ever since .. thanks from NZ 👍🇳🇿
que genial , aunque alguna medidas no coincidían igual estuvo bueno . 👍
Hms Prince of Wales is heavier than the sister ship..I believe they are 75'000 ,maybe more
any Yamato class aircraft carriers?(shinano)
I love alternate history, try to imagine the Gerald Ford Class in WW2, Just one could have done it all.
@Will Muny just talking about the ship it would be just fine in ww2 the carrier is nuke powered, it would propably im guessing have to use ww2 planes and ammo.
I still can't believe that the graf zeppelin is a real warship or not
they had aircraft carrier but it was first and last one and aircrafts were not suited for that carrier.
hi could you make comparison between human, taller and wider building with aircraft carrier
Heavy sigh...I liked it but where is the Kitty Hawk? :) Not only was she the first in her class (and the ship I served on) but instrumental in the development of the more modern supercarriers.
Where is Thai's HTMS Chakri Naruebet?
Seems you forgot the Kittyhawks… Conni..America…Kennedy.
What about shinano?
bro make a totorial video on this plzzzzzzzz
IDK if im wrong, but shouldnt the essex have a steel deck instead of a wooden one?
The flight deck was composed of Douglas Fir laid athwartships, with a finished thickness of 3 inches and 6 inches in width. Moisture content could not exceed 20% at time of laying the deck. Margin planks were composed of teak with the same dimensions. The Douglas planking had to conform with the “West Coast Lumbermen’s Association” with regards to “ship decking” quality.
Eurofighters on brasilian carrier? Should be A-4
Why are Helicopter Carriers included but none of the US Helicopter Carriers included? Tarawa Class etc.

Why weren't the LEXINGTON-class listed, they were bigger than most Japanese carriers...And why not the KITTY HAWK-class either...Bigger than Russian and Red Chinese carriers...

It is INS VIKRANT Not Viraat😠
Those are two different carriers. The one in the video at 1:58 is the Viraat. I also added the INS Vikramaditya later in the video (the sister ship to the Vikrant). Thanks
You have a massive weight difference between Liaoning and Kuznetsov when they're the same. Are you going with empty ships or fully loaded? Because ships load up thousands of tons. US supercarriers load 20,000 tons.
If you're going with some ships loaded weight and other ships empty weight then your list is pointless.

Missiles would be simply shot down by either the carriers Air wing, the escorts ant air weapons or the carriers anti air weapons themselves.

You really think USS enterprise has such ugly huge bridge?
Find better model, or create yourself(if you can)
@@battlecraze Well, the billboard sided island did look something like that, however the original radar system on top of the island looked a lot different compared to this model.
I just checked some google images of the bridge and it looks nearly identical to the one in the video. Not sure what you're complaining about.
Cvn 65 big e's island is similar to long beach class nuclear powered missile cruisers.
I had to stop watching when you skipped Chakri Nairuebet the Thai aircraft carrier.
Definitely a 👎🏼
This took a couple weeks for me to produce. Any like are greatly appreciated! Thanks for watching. :-)
Amazing

Tomcats never flew off the Midway, they were too big. Phantoms, Crusaders and Hornets were the typical jets carried aboard.
Great video, thanks for the effort.
