The 22 Hornet was one of my father’s favorite calibers on the farm for predators and vermin. I purchased a Taurus Raging Hornet pistol as a result many decades later, and it was a great find. The 22 Hornet definitely punches above its weight. Thanks for the video.
Have the same Hornet dated 1949 ,early number with 223 barrel bore which Brno later changed to 224. Initial problem was excessive headspace which caused case separation after 3 or 4 reloads. Had the barrel set back one full turn and rechambered fixed the problem. Beautiful rifle to shoot.

I just picked up a Brno Fox model 2 in .222 Remington. Lovely little rifle, and is astonishingly accurate. I'm also a huge fan of the .22 Hornet and .218 Bee. I have a Savage model 23-D in the Hornet and a little Francotte mini-Martini in .218 Bee. Lovely to shoot! Thanks for your insight here and our mutual appreciation of fine rifles!

My pal had a BRNO in .222 rem. Basically the same as your gun. It was fantastic. Just simple, nicely made and a real tack driver. I would have swapped it for my Sako, TBH.

Congratulations on yet another interesting and informative presentation. I am also fascinated with the miniature Mauser concept. I would draw your attention to the very similar Krico model of the late '50s. Mine is a half stock carbine in .222 with set triggers. The model was also offered in (at least) .22 Hornet and in rifle and full-stock variations. Single triggers were also available. I would certainly like to know about magazine interchangeability with Brno/CZ. Alas, the Brno/CZ, Krico lines seem to have gone extinct with CZ's recent discontinuation of the 527s. More is our loss. In Muhlenberg County Kentucky my grandfather used 22 Hornets these to hunt deer back in the middle and late 20th century... Yes deer. He only used them. 30 years old now, he's dead for 5-6 years now, 95 when he died. WWII and hunting stories, quietly patiently fishing, hunting rabbits with beagle dogs and side-by-side, hunting deer with a 22 Hornets, gardening especially tomatoes and turnips, flipping through seed catalogs in the winter. Thanks for the memories; I really do enjoy your UA-cam channel. Obviously there are some guns I like more than. And I would say are political opinions on guns are different, I don't really understand why they allow high capacities. But I don't think you're a bad person, I think you're really good person, we're just coming from different places. And I really enjoy this channel, and I really enjoyed this episode.
22 Hornet is a sweet, sweet round that fills a niche incredibly well. Varmints, etc out to 200 yards with the right ammo. During the last years of his life, my father couldn't really walk. He bought a Browning chambered in 22 Hornet to turkey hunt. (Legal in my state.) He did in fact kill several turkeys with it.
I do like these centerfire .22's, goes right along with my 'love of' rimfire shooting in general. My .222 Sako is a really nice shooting rifle,.. for me at least.
The 22 hornet has always been my favorite 22 center fire! Just enough recoil to let you know it is center fire instead of rim fire, and the report to match. Beautiful little rifles, good solid 200 yd guns!
That Marlin lever is very neat. I have a Ruger 96/44 and they were mad to discontinue it. I have shot a lot of wild pigs over here with mine, the only downside is the four round mag.
Big fan of the .218 Bee. Great in a break action (like the T/C Contender), due to being rimmed. It's my current go-to garden defense round. Also owned that same Uberti mini rolling block for a while. It's a great looking rifle, but the trigger pull on it was pretty abysmal.

I had a Hornet built on a Martini Cadet action it was so accurate with a 26 inch barrel and a 4 x 81Pecar scope grouping 5/8 at a 100 yards my friend had one the same which belonged to our gunsmiths wife and as he always said it is not the calibre but where you put the shot, he showed us photos of his wife with big game she shot in Africa with that Hornet. My friend now has a BRNO Hornet but cannot get it to shoot as well as his old Martini. The gunsmith also said do not get all tied up in ballistics an animal does not know it has been killed with a bullet going 3500 feet per second or one going at 2600 feet per second and he is right.
You made my day when you talked about the Marlin model 62 30 carbine. I am a lucky owner of one that I recently purchased on gunbroker. The prices are of course insane now, but knowing how rare they are, I had to add it to my collection. Mine is missing the Marlin bullseye however, I guess I could make one out of some combination of plastic scraps. Thank you for all of your fantastic videos. I enjoy all of them and the information you share.
The Marlin you showed at the end with swing away scope mounts. I have a vintage FN Mauser action 30-06 with a swing away mount made by Pachmayr. Scope is a KV Weaver. Having the option to quickly go from scope to iron & back is definitely a nice feature. The Pachmayr mount also has a knurled thumbwheel so the scope can be taken off completely in less than a minute. ;-)
Excellent presentation as always. That BRNO is beautiful. The rifle is trim and purposeful looking. Just was thinking what a fine rifle it would be for just carrying on a woods walk, especially with a good receiver sight to make it even handier.
I love your videos, I really appreciated the first 1:17. Nothing new under the sun, this too shall pass. I’d love a 22 hornet! I’d love a continent video. Guns from Africa, USA, Europe, Japan ect. Drillings to modern sporting rifles. That be interesting to me. Or a video on your favorite Push feed, control feed, falling block, semi, lever, single, that would be cool. I love seeing all the different options not found at chain stores.
The mid power .22 that I liked the most was the .221 rem. Fire ball. Having owned and reloaded the hornet I never considered it super accurate and the cases had an annoying habit of ripping the heads off in the sizing die, very frustrating! The rifle was a Winchester Low wall SS. The .221 was much better for reloading and I had a Remington XP 100 and a Ruger SS that I rebarreled in .221. I owned two Marlin M66s in .30 carbine and a Ruger blackhawk in that caliber. They really needed rimmed cases to be perfect. I tried .32-20 cases but the brass was too thin. The swap with the best potential was the .327 magnum which had comparable power. The cases bulge a little in front of the head but they would have solved the perrenial headspace problem, especially in the Ruger. Short cases lead to ignition problems. I was not a fan of the micro groove rifling in the Marlin. Thanks again for another great video. I find your Videos the most informative on the internet and speak to the experienced reader.

I have a couple of seldom seen .22 Hornet rifles. One is a CZ 527FS and the other one is a beautiful old Savage 23D. I took the Savage to the range a couple of days ago, and with my handloads, it shot very good at 50 yards. I have had it for close to 50 years, and it has taken a few turkey`s and coyotes. CZ told me that they only brought in one batch of the FS Hornets.
For sure the CZ is a rare gem and the 23D a reliable and lasting winner. Isn't it surprising at first how effective the Hornet is. Thanks for the note.

I for one would love to see Ruger come back to lever and autoloading carbine manufacturing. The 44 auto mag design could take over the auto carbine industry. Imagine it in the .30 cal carbine the .351 Winchester and the .22 hornet or even better for the auto action the .218b. The scaled-down action of the carbine would be great for function and the fast handling of that famous ruger design, think 10-22, would surely be a winner. Imagine all the options they could put on these designs especially if they could set the stock up to fit both auto and lever. Imagine a stainless action bull barrel .218 b with a Kevlar thumb hole stock for varmint hunting. How about a beautiful blued case hardened .351 Winchester with simple oil finished walnut and the original ruger peep of the 44 auto design as your next woodland deer rifle. If only they would listen to us old timers lol.
You have impeccable timing with more classic and intriguing sporting arms. Also, you are indeed clear. Soviet doctrine has always been brutal to both sides. They don't care about their own losses in terms of ground support and infantry, while clearing 'properties' (non-combatants who are determined liabilities) from buildings. Fortunately, there are several Chechnyan commanders leadership of the invaders should be fearful of..his own SOC commanders who have attempted to reposition, secure and even care for civilians. These men do not like the recklessness of what has always been standard operational policy since Stalin. So, the wolf becomes the sheep, ever weary of the hunter.

Wish the old hornet was more popular today. Factory ammo is way overpriced. being a reloader helps but it is not the most friendly cartridge to reload and brass life is very short in my experience. I do tend to load a little “hot”. Great cartridge in my Ruger 77 varmint. Definitely wish I had a Bruno as well. I have no problem taking woodchucks out to 200 yards. I actually get the best results when I use the Hornady 50gr SPSX over the more modern 35/40gr V-MAX’S, which probably is just what my rifle prefers.
I own an unusual rifle of which I've not seen another like it. It's a CRF mauser bolt action BSA in .22 Hornet. It has an internal magazine, loaded via its sprung floor plate (it does NOT have a "removable" box magazine). Though scoped, it has leaf sights, a muzzle break machined into the barrel, and a Monte Carlo cheekpiece. It's elegant mauser action also has "16 Tons" per square inch stamped into it. People say I should convert it to 223 Rem, but that would destroy it's uniqueness. Anyone interested to buy it?

Hornet is a great round. I have my dad's Navy Arms single shot with octagon barrel in 22 hornet. Light and accurate it is my favorite varmint gun.

The 457 is a rimfire rifle, you may be thinking of the 527 or yours is in 22 magnum/lr. Good to see you know your firearm.

If you are going to reload for the 22 Hornet it is worth considering having it reamed to a 22 K-hornet for better brass life.

In the 1970's many in Australia got converted to 17 Ackley hornet for fox shooting. I sold mine about 5yrs ago.

Every cartridge has its place, 22 Hornet definitely has a niche. Medium to short range I would say anything under 200

The swap with the best potential was the .327 magnum which had comparable power. The cases bulge a little in front of the head but they would have solved the perrenial headspace problem, especially in the Ruger. Short cases lead to ignition problems. I was not a fan of the micro groove rifling in the Marlin.

I have a couple of seldom seen .22 Hornet rifles. One is a CZ 527FS and the other one is a beautiful old Savage 23D. I took the Savage to the range a couple of days ago, and with my handloads, it shot very good at 50 yards. I have had it for close to 50 years, and it has taken a few turkey`s and coyotes. CZ told me that they only brought in one batch of the FS Hornets.
For sure the CZ is a rare gem and the 23D a reliable and lasting winner. Isn't it surprising at first how effective the Hornet is. Thanks for the note.

I for one would love to see Ruger come back to lever and autoloading carbine manufacturing. The 44 auto mag design could take over the auto carbine industry. Imagine it in the .30 cal carbine the .351 Winchester and the .22 hornet or even better for the auto action the .218b. The scaled-down action of the carbine would be great for function and the fast handling of that famous ruger design, think 10-22, would surely be a winner. Imagine all the options they could put on these designs especially if they could set the stock up to fit both auto and lever. Imagine a stainless action bull barrel .218 b with a Kevlar thumb hole stock for varmint hunting. How about a beautiful blued case hardened .351 Winchester with simple oil finished walnut and the original ruger peep of the 44 auto design as your next woodland deer rifle. If only they would listen to us old timers lol.

Wish the old hornet was more popular today. Factory ammo is way overpriced. being a reloader helps but it is not the most friendly cartridge to reload and brass life is very short in my experience. I do tend to load a little “hot”. Great cartridge in my Ruger 77 varmint. Definitely wish I had a Bruno as well. I have no problem taking woodchucks out to 200 yards. I actually get the best results when I use the Hornady 50gr SPSX over the more modern 35/40gr V-MAX’S, which probably is just what my rifle prefers.

I own an unusual rifle of which I've not seen another like it. It's a CRF mauser bolt action BSA in .22 Hornet. It has an internal magazine, loaded via its sprung floor plate (it does NOT have a "removable" box magazine). Though scoped, it has leaf sights, a muzzle break machined into the barrel, and a Monte Carlo cheekpiece. It's elegant mauser action also has "16 Tons" per square inch stamped into it. People say I should convert it to 223 Rem, but that would destroy it's uniqueness. Anyone interested to buy it?
