Yeah, I'm not a fan of zoos, which Monkey World isn't anyway, but I see nothing wrong with having sanctuaries like this for rescued animals. Some of them will sadly never survive in the wild, although I think that any who can should absolutely be released. I'd love to visit Monkey World one day. I still naturally worry though as someone who is very much into animal rights stuff. I hope there haven't been any major controversies and that the animals are given a lot of space (or at least as much as possible). It does seem better than a lot of zoos though.
Have only just found this video and want to congratulate the operator on the quality and substance of it. I go to MW about every fortnight and have done so for 10 years and am very familiar with all the primates and it's just lovely to see them all and in closeup, too, which, especially with the Spiders isn't easy. Well done , whoever you are.
Great video! I was so touched at how emotional the woman in the video got when Amy (or Gordon?) looked her in her eyes. These amazing creatures seem to have such a deep soul...and they are so necessary for biodiversity of our rainforests. I’m not a tree hugger...I’m not even a conservationist (yet) but it does break my heart after becoming recently educated about what these and the other great apes future holds because of Humans. Wish there was more we could do before it’s too late. So happy for you that you got to experience that moment! Hoping to visit one day myself!

No, you can’t. This isn’t a zoo it’s a conservation project. Do you know what happens to many of these species in the wild? They get poached, hunted, die from having their territory turned into plantations or ruined from climate change, poisoned from pollution, etc. I think you should read a book about them. These really are just animals, which sounds bad but what I mean is that they don’t require anywhere close to the same sort of stimulation that we do to be happy. They have good food, good friends, sex all the time, interesting looking humans to watch every day, and safety from bad humans or predators. It’s a resort dude. watch some more Disney if you are so inclined to anthropomorphize animals.

They rescue most of their monkey and apes from private owners, circuses, and experimental labs. They do not breed unless they are endangered and they try to release some of their babies back to the wild after they're old enough. They do allow the chimps to breed once every 5 years just to keep the family dynamics as strong as they can be. They work with a sister park in Vietnam, Cat Tien National Park and Dao Tien, where they rehabilitate mainly gibbons and also some slow loris. If you would like to learn all about this place and what they actually do, Beyond Wildlife has put out 11, working on season 12 right now, seasons of their show Monkey Life. I created a massive public Playlist that starts at season 1, episode 1 and goes up to the most recently uploaded episode. I believe we're on episode 4 or 5 of season 12 at the moment. They truly are an amazing organization!!! And coming from me, someone who cried their eyes out watching Blackfish, The Cove, Sea of Shadows, and anything else similar.....this is saying A LOT!!!! I truly do believe captivity kills, but these people are doing their best to help these monkeys and apes.

They rescue Apes, monkeys and prosimians from an array of backgrounds, primarily, they find animals that have been stolen from the wild and were sold in the illegal pet trade, therefore having a limited experience with the wild, with their parents most likely being poached. Not all primates are capable of being rehabilitated after being in such a state for so long, however, they do run another sanctuary in Vietnam known as Dao Tien, in which they rescue the local primates such as the endangered golden-cheeked gibbons and langur monkeys. They try their upmost to reduce the amount of human contact the primates receive to ensure they do not perceive human beings as non-threats as a result of the severity of hunting and the pet trade in Vietnam. They rehabilitate what they can, but what they can't, they have to keep for their protection.

you have no idea the history of these primates. you probably have no idea the work needed to prepare a primate to go (back in to) the wild. If their mother was killed when they were an infant and luckily were found and given the opportunity to live, you cant just throw them into some jungle and expect them to survive. nobody chooses to keep a wild ready animal in captivity and not release it. some just cant be released back. worry about yourself before you start shaming others. you have no idea whats going on. shame on YOU. they're not like humans who might have sprained an ankle, 6 weeks in a soft cast then let them loose.
