Two small clips from the BAFTA Awards show (1989) where Jeremy appeared as an award presenter. If you ask me he should have received an award for Sherlock Holmes instead of giving one :)
Something seriously wrong with this picture. Brett should have been the one receiving such recognition. Never has an actor given himself over to a role as Brett did with Holmes. At one point he believed he *was* Sherlock Holmes. That is serious character acting ability...a gift and a curse in equal measure. My DVD set of the ITV Holmes dramas are treasure to me. Pure gold. Please give Brett a posthumous award and rectify this grave injustice.

I wish Jeremy knew how he was loved dearly by millions of adoring fans. Jeremy was hugely underappreciated, it's absolutely criminal that BAFTA didn't award Jeremy for his magnificent performances. I never met Jeremy but when he passed away it felt like I had lost a beloved family member. If only he'd known how much he was and is still loved by millions. Rest well Jeremy, God has you in his care now.
He was certainly an incredible actor and absolutely deserves a BAFTA for his iconic role of Sherlock Holmes, alone. But above that, he was such a beautiful soul and seemed to embrace life no matter how hard it became. We always lose the greatest ones far too early. You are so painfully missed, Jeremy. But yet, we are also glad you were here at all to give us such happiness. ok, I just need to say this.....He is crazy sexy. *tuxedo*
I'm surprised at the rather cool reception given Jeremy Brett by his fellows here. Small, polite applause, and not much friendliness from the female announcer or the crowd.
Julie Andrews, speaking about audiences, said, "British are reserved. A performer doesn't know how they're doing until the end of the show. Americans tend to respond immediately. Jeremy said said the same in an interview (somewhere on UA-cam). That's what I can add. Peace.
I started reading ACD the same time this Granada series started airing in the states, so for me Brett IS Sherlock Holmes. Even if he never won an award, his version is definitive and will go down as one of the truest representations of this character to date.
As a member of The Sherlock Holmes Society Of London I would like to say to people that he was given some wonderful reviews from them and he said that was all he wanted and he was delighted with that, God Bless Jeremy 🙏

I just came across this upload. Thank you so much... and I totally agree with you: Jeremy Brett was the epitome or exact duplicate of Sherlock Holmes. No other actor has ever come close to portraying the Holmes likeness as perfectly as Brett.

I think that woman was a huge fan of him, do you see how she casually says "embodiment of Holmes" and then just beams when he thanks her. I hope that made his night.

I looooooove Jeremy Brett and I adore David Lean - how cute to see them together in this clip! There was something about Jeremy's melancholy and theatricality that always reminded me of the title character in Lean's Lawrence of Arabia. What a shame these two guys never worked together!

This happened to me at school. I got a free subscription to some bird magazine as some sort of recognition for studying hard. My classmate was quite annoyed. Meanwhile all students who later became lawyers and doctors got scolarships.
I’m beginning to there is more to what we see for his lack of recognition. He’s beyond comparison really. I’m even comparing him to Laurence Olivier, Clark Cable, Gary Grant, Sean Connery etc. There is definitely some politicking going on there.

I'm always so in awe of his elocution . The perfect English speaking voice. Reminiscent of One of his Holmes predesessor, the great Basil Rathbone.
