      @Velkanis 7 років тому +15

      not really since it would slow your sense of time as your brain gets pumped up

    • @andrewskaterrr
      @andrewskaterrr 7 років тому +42

      Alaude adrenaline would increase brain function/speed. This would cause time to appear slower as it is processing so fast. So you could think of say 4 thoughts in the time it would take to think of 2. If your brain got slower it would mean time passed by faster as its processing longer. What you answered with was the complete opposite of your reasoning.

    • @djohnsveress6616
      @djohnsveress6616 4 роки тому +90

      Hrtz... You just said it right there, Hrtz / Fps...
      they are two separate things. Remember that FPS is how many frames your computer is producing, while the refresh rate is how many times the monitor is refreshing the image on the screen. The refresh rate (Hz) of your monitor does not affect the frame rate (FPS) 👌 Many misunderstands the coloration between fps and hz Fps is how much frames your GPU can produce, the Hz of a Monitor is how much Frames can it display in one second.. The weird thing with High Hz monitors that people non stop complain that they suck while
      1. they never even turn the Higher Hz option on,
      2. they only play mario cart and even that on a casual level.
      Higher hz monitors supposed to be the "Anti blur" /say, the faster you turn the less frames your monitor will skip, and the more frames you have the more frames it can put in between motions and once again the more HZ you have the more your monitor actually displays..
      And one more thing 60 vs 120 isn't a 60+ but it's a 2x, it's two times as fast, so 240 vs 140 is two times as fast, 300 is 0,4x times as fast, it gonna be the edge cutter for competitive players especially professionals

    Another thing worth mentioning is how a mind's refresh rate somewhat depends not just on the individual, but also on what they're doing. If someone is tired or drunk, the speed at which their brain actually processes images will be a lot slower than usual. Likewise, caffeine and other energy spikes will usually do the opposite.

      Adrenaline also makes the brain overclock like crazy, it becomes insanely fast but I'm pretty sure we cannot mantain the overclock too long because it probably stresses the brain a lot as well. Think about people when they go trough life threatening experiences, they always describe it as if they lasted forever, when in reality were just a couple of seconds. That happens because the brain was so overclocked that it creates the illusion that it lasted long.

    • @zoravar.k7904
      @zoravar.k7904 7 років тому +7

      cicalinarrot Taran actually screwed up there, the brain doesn't limit resolution in your periphery, the cone cell density is acutally far lower in the peripheral portions of the retina, than it is in the fovea. He even showed a graphic on screen illustrating this and then proceeded to forget all about it and mention how the brain gimps the resolution of the eye.

    • @custos3249
      @custos3249 7 років тому

      The anatomy of the eye is actually the bottleneck, as others have covered. But what's further bizarre is how light affects that. In dark conditions, the fovea is not the portion of the eye with the best resolution. The areas around it are. But, again, it's the anatomy of the eye that's causes this, specifically the density of rods vs cones, not the brain's ability to decode action potentials from the eyes.

    • @custos3249
      @custos3249 7 років тому

      *****
      Thanks for adding more information. Also, if it weren't obvious, that's all why we don't have color vision in dark conditions or in our peripheral vision. While we may still perceive color, that's the result of either there being just enough light or any lingering visual artifacts and our brains trying to make sense of the information sent to it using whatever context it can including old visual information. Your brain may "see" color but your eyes might not. Cones are also responsible for detecting fine detail, and the lack of cones away from the fovea results in the obvious blurry vision in our periphery and, since they're light sensitive, dark conditions as well.

    didn't a study by pudget systems came to the conlcusion that we would need about an 11k display for each eye for it to be totally fooled?
    when taran said "about 8-9mp" i first thought "hey, but 8mp is about the same as 4k, which is not near the maximum we can see" but then i realised, it wouldn't be 8-9 million pixel perferctly aligned in a square array, like a monitor, but rather more pixel near the center... those numbers might actually be somewhat close to reality, those 11k per eye found by pudget systems are probably when talking about a screen resolution

    • @Mythricia1988
      @Mythricia1988 7 років тому +1

      Yeah, this is why VR technology is leaning towards having different resolution in the peripheral vision versus the central focal point. That way you can have a pretty low amount of pixels rendered, but without affecting what we actually see.

    This was explained pretty well, but other people explained it in a way that was less 'photography' or 'gaming' related and showed more real life examples which made it easier to follow.
    Also, the brain doesn't process what you see by frames, but instead by what you see over a short period of time. This also makes motion blur and since it is a continues process, instead of games where it renders each frame (with motion blur) individually, it can never appear as smooth as real life as long as the monitors keep using a refresh rate.

    • @TheShangryLlamas

    • @AnimilesYT
      @AnimilesYT 7 років тому +3

      HukijG I always turn it off because pretty much no game studio makes proper motion blur. A very little motion blur can make it look better if the motion blur is executed well. But that almost never happens, so I turn it off to be sure I most likely get the optimal experience currently available.
      (I do use it in race games to blur out the fast moving roads though. In some race games there are repeated textures which will look horrible if there is no motion blur. But for any other kind of game the motion blur should be turned off)

    • @fa.h.
      @fa.h. 7 років тому +3

      Games have terrible motion blur, but the motion blur you can get from filming with a camera is not.
      Your brain is not able to add motion blur to different things on a screen, thats why if you have a too high FPS and resolution film showed to you, with close to zero motion blur, most if not all people get sick. but adding little bit of motion fixes it.

    • @AnimilesYT

    We talked about this stuff in first year biophysics! (really cool prof). the point of the video that was sort of glossed over was that you see 'continuously'; if you're seeing, light is always hitting your retina and your brain is always "processing" an image. There are no "frames" being displayed, because its a constant, continuous ray of light. It's a really good point that it honestly is just personal preference of what appears smooth, because the two mediums, one continuous (eye) and one fast, yet intermittent (monitor), are entirely different.
    So tl;dr, the "fps" question doesn't make sense because that's not how eyeballs work. You can say whatever you like and someone else will see differently. Each brain is different, each eye is different. Resolution can be feasibly worked out, but once agian that relies on a "perfect" eye model, which not everyone has.

      NuggetsTM What's up with me is that I'm not under a placebo effect. 60 fps video of real shit looks awful, the lack of motion blur makes it look jittery and unnatural, it's an objective fact of reality, it's how our eyes work, there is no debate about it. let me know if you ever find a film maker or photographer uploading 60 fps video.

      Dilyx .Edits Actually, it's because the gases that are produced by the explosion take up much more space than the fuel + air mixture that exploded.

    What nobody talks about when they talk about frame rates. If you can tell the difference between 60 and 244 frames every second, do you also perceive the lights in your house as flashes rather than continuous knowing the fact that AC current turns your lights on and off 50 or 60 times a second

    I know this is an old video. But taking your point of not being able to see the difference between 220 and 260 fps is tricky. On anything less than a 240hz monitor that’s basically impossible. We would need a 260hz or faster monitor to be able to actually see the difference. The same way we can see the difference from 80fps and 110fps on a 120 or 144 hz monitor

    We had done an experiment at our uni at what rate you can see a screen/light flicker and it was around 70Hz -80Hz for your peripheral vision that is. It's interesting to see that the brain has 3 times the speed of the actual cone/rod refresh frequency.
