This is so fun! My third or fourth view. One note... If you did not recognize it, the speaking at the start of "From the Outside in" are lines spoken by Bela Lugosi in Dracula.
This group is absolutely amazing. Every track is a masterpiece. I was exactly the same and have only just recently got into them. Just a brilliant band
Thanks for featuring IQ today. As much as I love this band, it must be a bit disheartening from a reactor's perspective that when you play music from obscure prog bands like IQ and Marillion, you get a much smaller audience, given the tendency of internet denizens to click on links that feature their favorite bands and ignore links to reactions to bands and songs they've never heard before. Keep up the good work, Jim, and play what deserves a wider audience.
Hi Jim, Hooray, IQ. One of my favorite progressive rock bands. So many great albums and this is one of them. Live they’re great too. All progressive rock and metal bands have overlapping styles.
So pleased you've got to IQ - one of the two great prog bands from the 80s when I would go and see IQ and Twelfth Night regularly at the Marquee Club. I can't wait for you to give The Wake & The Seventh House a spin. Then I think you'll be ready for some Twelfth Night... :)
Hi Jim. Thanks so much for doing this reaction. IQ are one the great unsung British bands. I've seen them live many times and they're always fabulous. I know you're going to love the rest of the album. Enjoy and savour the world of IQ! 🌍
I love this album! I literally listened to it on repeat every day for two weeks after I discovered it. it was my go-to music on my evening walks among other things. IQ are a fantastic band in general.
Welcome to IQ! I thought you would like them. I think my first encounter with them was on your channel when you played The Province from Frequency about 9 months ago. What hooked me was their live performance of Ever. I kept purchasing albums, with each one just as good as the previous. I should note that they have a new album planned for next year.
I'm so glad this band at last found its way to you with this oustanding album. I know you enjoyed a lot their track "The Province", and you'll see there are so many very good songs from them. In my humble opinon, IQ are to rock/prog rock music what Haute Couture is to fashion. Good taste at all levels, they never desapointed me since the time I discovered them back in the mid 80's. One of my favorite bands ever. I do hope you'll dig deeper into their work. Paul Cook is one of the best drummer in the prog scene, just kick@ss everytime !
In the case of the song The Road Of Bones you should certainly watch a live video of it to see how singer Peter Nicholls performs it on stage, quite unsettling actually. There is something about progbands doing songs about serial killers that is quite sinister. Scottish band Pallas had one in the early 80s called The Ripper which they eventually got around to document live with their original singer Euan Lawson in the late 90s. That one is even more sinister because it is based on the story of real serial killer.
Great band and album.... another Twin suggestion checked off( we won't mention how many years😂😂😂😂!!!!)🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥... I'm thrilled you finally got to check them out.
I get what you say about them being a combo of Genesis, Rush, Marillion and DT (well, I don't really hear them). On their 4th album Are You Sitting Comfortably? was a song called Wurensh and when you descramble those letters you get the working title for that song: New Rush. Genesis of course we all hear (and IQ's Subterranea live-show is the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway live show of our age) but also some of Steve Hackett's early solo work (just listen to either his song Spectral Mornings or The Steppes and you will certainly hear it) and yes, there is some early Marillion in there as well. But overall, when IQ hits it out of the ballpark they hit it in their own style and with flair.
Well, it _is_ technically a single album, but even the versions on streaming services have it with both CDs. And it also _is_ better listened to as a double album, since there's no shortage of great material in the second disc. I still have to dig into their past material (I'm only acquainted with their last 3 releases and highly recommend you listen to _Frequency_ next), but what I have heard from IQ so far is pretty great. Nice to hear them again with you here, Jim. By the way, you mentioned Colin and Gavin from PT. Tim and Paul were back with the band for this album and it's like they were men on a mission, the bass and drums on this album are absolutely phenomenal.
Yup! Really great band! (and album!) ❤ I often thought that they were a continuation (and development) of the "early Genesis tradition", but with another unique vocalist. (Speaking of... The Between the Buried and Me singer Tommy Giles Rogers' clean singing sometimes REALLY reminds of IQ's Pete Nicholls' actually)
Though always fairly popular amongst the prog crowd, IQ never really got the wider audience that they deserved. Scot's not wrong - this could well be their best album.
For me, this is one of IQ’s best albums. I particularly like the fact that it’s quite different from their previous offerings in that it’s much heavier. I was very disappointed with Resistance though. Perhaps I should give the album a second listen.
Jim, not sure what other IQ you've listened to but they were part of the original neo-prog scene of the early 1980's. If I can recommend two other IQ albums to check out they would be The Wake (1985) and Ever (1993). These two albums sort of define the two eras of the band when Peter Nicholls was the singer (Nicholls was replaced by Paul Menel as singer for a few albums as the band sought to appease their label's quest for commercial success). Road of Bones is solid, but once you hear Ever you'll realize that most of their albums after that are all pretty much derivations on what Ever established. And Ever is sort of a progression on the original style heard in full glory on The Wake. The bottom line is IQ are a great band, worth a full career review. Very few other reactors pay them any attention, which is a shame. Of all the 80's neo-prog bands they scratch that itch the best for me.
Never been a fan of Neo Prog . But I am giving this a try, Ok done this one shall await part 2 still not convinced but I shall persevere. If you do not give stuff a chance what chance does it have?
@@JimNewstead Fabulous my friend. This band is absolutely incredible. Really popular and boy what a sound they have. Maybe the proggiest prog band of all time. This is amazing stuff!
This is so fun! My third or fourth view. One note... If you did not recognize it, the speaking at the start of "From the Outside in" are lines spoken by Bela Lugosi in Dracula.
This is a great album, matched by their last album, 'Resistance'. They are a fantastic, disgustingly underrated band.
This group is absolutely amazing. Every track is a masterpiece. I was exactly the same and have only just recently got into them. Just a brilliant band

Yes!!! Another masterpiece from IQ😊
Very underappreciated band

I've never actually heard much IQ but I'm going to see them in January so this is good 👍 timing!
I love this album!

Amazing music, Amazing career, amazing musicians.
Yes ,mate. One of my favourites bands
Wow this is really good ! Unexpected too. Thanks for introducing me to this band !

Am absolutely loving this so far.
This is sooooo good Jim, first time listening to IQ and wow, the tracks so far, don't disappoint. 😍
Told you how good it is jim and for me there isn't a track on the album that disappoints, without walls is stunning.
Great album.
Great Album Jim! 🎉🎉🎉

And of course Mike Holmes is a major Hawkwind freak, and had (has?) a side gig as a dance club DJ! 😄
@@yes_headhe might have had but haven't heard about him actively DJing in years.

If you enjoyed this, you should check out Martin Orford's solo albums, especially 'The Old Road' featuring John Wetton among others.
Though always fairly popular amongst the prog crowd, IQ never really got the wider audience that they deserved. Scot's not wrong - this could well be their best album.
Sounds good.
Al fin IQ, gran grupo.
Can't wait for Without Walls...my fav on RoB

You should try it again. I had the same reaction. After some replays, I now very much enjoy it. Stay Down is great.

I'm assuming that Sick Boi is coming soon. Hope I'm right : )
Good album but the second disc of tracks, not part of the main concept, I found to be far more enjoyable and the one I go back to.
Did anyone mention that Peter Nichol's voice is quite unique?
Big fan of this album!
Hey Jim - welcome back to the land of the living. Got this when it was released and love it. IQ IS WAY UNDERRATED.
