  • Vienna, Austria is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and St. Stephen's Cathedral is the symbol of Vienna. The cathedral is the highest point of Vienna's inner city skyline and it looks like it can reach the heavens. The church features a combination of Romanesque and Gothic styles. There are hundreds of years of history here and you can feel the history as soon as you enter the cathedral's doors. You will be amazed at the interior's stained glass windows, paintings, carvings, and sculptures. It's organ is one of the largest in Europe. Mozart was married here. This is absolutely a must-see when visiting Vienna!

Stunning..I noticed the oldest known symbol on earth on the ballastrade of the staircase
The Swastika-representing the four fixed zodiacal signs, the four cardinal directions, the four ages of man, the four seasons, the spiralling ends represent the continuous cycle that Earth is a part of as the astronomical clock shows.
    The flower of life
    The seed of life
    The tree of life
All stained glass symbols in the circle represent the rose.. or the flower/seed of life.

The massive scale of cathedrals and basilicas that are centuries old is a testament to the commitment that was made to religious buildings in Europe. Most buildings in American cities (commercial ones particularly) show little regard to longevity. Such is the nature of capitalism, with the credo of big profits from minimal initial investments of money.

This is the impressive architecture, among so much else, that is at threat with the Third World flooding into the West.

The explanation of the name Riesentor is just one of many, and the Beethoven story is simply not true as he had a progressive hearing loss...
