Hi guys! As others have mentioned, you MUST listen to George Benson’s Give Me the Night and also This Masquerade!! He is a master guitarist and has such a SMOOOOTHE voice!!!!
Asia, BJ.. Brother George has got some SOUL in him ✋️😉🤚. Another of his famous hits was “Give me the Night”. I just KNEW would unleash the chair boogie 🫰😆
George plays a hollow body electric Ibanez guitar. He makes it sing, in fact, he sings the notes in unison. This song was written by a team of great songwriters; Cynthia Weil & hubby Barry Mann, Mike Stoller, and Jerry Leiber. It was first recorded in 1964 by The Drifters. Weil & Mann also wrote "You've lost that lovin' feelin'" (The Righteous Brothers), "Here you come again" (Dolly Parton), & "We got to get out of this place" (The Animals). A big hit for George was an instrumental song called, "Breezin'". More hits by George are "This Masquerade" and "Give Me the Night". I've been a big fan for many years. He is smooth!
Now y'all talkin'!!!! Nobody does it better!! So smooth, so jazzy, so SEXY!! One of the absolute best guitarists, but don't sleep on that velvet voice.
This was recorded live in Los Angeles at the Roxy Theater for a 1978 live album, "Weekend in L.A.", and was a huge hit. This is a cover of a song by a 50's group called "The Cookies."
in the summer of 1978, when i graduated high school and was about to go off to college, there were three songs on the radio: "sultans of swing" by dire straits; "baker street" by gerry rafferty; and this one...
When I was in college he was on tour. Got to see him. Great show. Still have the ticket stub. 1977 University of Oregon. He was really best known for his jazz guitar.
I was 24 years old and saw George in Concert. Fabulous! I’m now 70 and this song still stirs my soul with the same intensity as it did when I was that young man at that concert.
6:20 literally one of my favorite parts of any song ever of all time. Like when that applause comes up over that funky outro, speaks to my soul in a way I can’t really describe
George Benson is an American guitarist, singer, & songwriter. He began his professional career at the age of 19 as a jazz guitarist. He covers different genres or styles such as jazz, pop, R&B & scat singing. His Breezin' album was one of the biggest selling of all time. He has such a smooth mellow voice. He has had so many great hits both singing & instrumental such as "This Masquerade", "Breezin'", "The Greatest Love Of All", "Love All The Hurt Away," "Turn Your Love Around," "Inside Love," "Lady Love Me," "20/20," "Shiver," "Kisses In The Moonlight", "Affirmation", "Give Me The Night" etc.
George is a musicians, musician. Dude was and is next level. Jazzy and open. So much respect and those who played with him got a master class in fusion with a great deal of reality. He can play like no other in his field. As my great grandfather said a farmer is a man out standing in his field is to what George does in the field of music.
Great reaction guys! Ya'll have hit gold with George Benson!! Others have already recommended other songs by him and you won't be disappointed! There's a video of him performing his song Give Me the Night while skating and playing his guitar with other people skating with him. It is amazing!! It was filmed at Venice Beach in 1980. And this song is still played at roller skating rinks everywhere! By the way, the song On Broadway was sung by The Drifters back in 64. Looking forward to more George Benson!!
My Pops was a huge George Benson fan. He passed in 2010 but I can still hear him singing some George. Hearing George always brings my dad to mind. While The City Sleeps is a great album. Thanks for this! RIP Pops. 🥹
George Benson is one of the best musicians ever! The song I can listen to anytime anywhere any mood especially when I’m sad it picks me right up! Its called Lady and it’s my all time favorite song! When I’m dead I want my friends to play it and think of me!❤
George Benson did a song for Nuyorican Soul called “You Can Do It (Baby)” and it’s an underrated gem. Not many lyrics but his voice in communion with his guitar playing, is like nothing you’ve heard. It’s an entire vibe.
Legendary Jazz guitarist. He didn't sing. But, he broke the mold and sang this and the reaction turned him into a household name. And So easy on the eyes
Asia and BJ, one best, covers of this song originally sung by the Cookies (1954) although the Crystals' version beat them to release. the Drifters (1963).and one his more popular releases. Nice reaction 🎶🎶🎶🎶🖖🏾👊🏾
Sung by the cookies in 1963, the drifters in 1963 and the coasters in 1972. Then George Benson in 1978 George benson just does such a wonderful cover that it’s easy to why anyone would think it was his own.
❤He was so smooth. He sang Greatest Love Of All before Whitney did......his was great too. 🖤He is greatly missed.......no one is doing what he did and he was such a great guitarist.
3:20-Got recorded twice Asia, The Drifters top 10# late 50's-early 60's -ish, Then George's more snappy version you guys loved here. His jazz-blues style of playing was awesome, Still rack my brain for anyone else who could sing exactly what he was playing during a solo, can't come up with anyone. Saw him live in '86, great show, he and his 6-piece band were top-notch studio-perfect! ( Including a bad-azz sistah playing congas/percussion and adding beautiful back-up vocals.)
George is not only scatting but he's playing guitar at the same time playing the scat note for note. If George can't get you moving you might need to check your pulse, he's just an incredible musical artist
My dad was a big jazz fan, when breezin came it was a favorite of his. George has some earlier jazz albums of amazing guitar. He's singing and playing the same notes , a very difficult thing. The entire breezin album is full of great tunes.
This song goes out to every actor/ actress and singers and dancers who get on a Greyhound Bus 🚌 or gets on a plane 🛬 to New York City 🏙️. Who wants to be a star ⭐ on Broadway, let NO one or nothing stand in your way to full your dreams.
George was an amazing talent. That scatting? That's how well he knows music: he's singing every note he's going to play...because he knows just how that note will sound!!! This is ART. Not everything he did was art; some songs were just Pop. But this one and Masquerade are incredible. BTW, he didn't write these two. Leon Russell did. So glad you found this!
So glad you did this, THE SMOOTHEST JAZZ VOICE ON THE EARTH. And an awesome Jazz guitarist, Im 61 I saw George Benson over 40 years ago live, Brisbane Australia 🇦🇺. I play him at BJJ when we are rolling on the mat.
One of the few singles I ever bought. This was the opening song for one of my all time favorite movies, All That Jazz. GREAT film with one of the best opening sequences ever. If there’s ever a chance you guys would react to that movie, you won’t regret it. Just not sure it’s available on streaming anywhere, which baffles me.
I am enjoying watching you guys appreciate music from my youth. On one of your earlier videos, you play another song by George Benson and Asia remarked that his voice put her in the mind of Stevie Wonder. Listen to "This Masquerade "
I remember the first song my Air Force classmates and I heard by George Benson was "This Masquerade" in 1976. We thought it was Stevie Wonder. The Drifters released "On Broadway" in 1964. George Benson released this live version in 1978.
Asia & BJ George made his name as a jazz guitarist first , then started singing as well. With the scatting , he can do it the same every time because he knows the scales he's playing on guitar and is matching the scale note for note with his voice. The initial riff for his song Turn Your Love Around was written by Toto guitarist Steve Lukather who was one of L.A.'s top studio musicians at the time & was Quincy Jones go to guy for studio work.
His “Weekend in L.A.” live album, which is where this song is from , is so good. I got it when I was in 7th or 8th grade. (I had eclectic tastes in music from early on. 😂)
The first time I heard him sing this (I believe he played guitar but didn't sing before this) the way his voice melded with the strings at one point I was mesmerized ❤❤❤ I also thought it was Stevie Wonder at first 😅
Asia & BJ, you’ll love his “This Masquerade"!!!
Yes!!!!
Off of Breezin. I had the album.
My favorite!
Yes sir.
He dose masquerade well but not as good as the originator Leon Russell.
George was amazing. He would scat vocally and mimic what he was playing on his guitar solo
This is a Drifters song that George Benson covered. But he did it very well!!
Hi guys! As others have mentioned, you MUST listen to George Benson’s Give Me the Night and also This Masquerade!! He is a master guitarist and has such a SMOOOOTHE voice!!!!

RIP Cynthia Weil ❤
Very talented man.A genious he was with his voice.

This masquerade, Greatest Love of All, Give Me The Night, Lady Love Me, Love X Love so many top tunes
This dude can play. this is live too. The only thing better than his guitar is his voice. He won a Grammy for Masquerade.
Damn strait what a guitarist what a voice
His cousins lived down the street from us. Pittsburgh PA.
George Benson one of the greatest singer / guitar players ever. So cool even AC/DC has played a cover of this at a concert.
YESSSS💯🔥🎵🔥💃🕺 and as others have mentioned... "Give me the Night & Turn your Love Around" Loveeee❤❤
George Benson is the Man on Guitar 🎸
Turn Your Love Around is a must listen.
in the summer of 1978, when i graduated high school and was about to go off to college, there were three songs on the radio: "sultans of swing" by dire straits; "baker street" by gerry rafferty; and this one...
Been a fan since the mid 80s. Him and Earl Klugh are a match made in heaven.
*GIVE ME THE NIGHT* by George Benson - one of the best, funkiest songs of the entire 80s, released in 1980
My mom got me into George Benson.... I miss her. My very favorites by him are Nature boy and We As Love. Took me decades to find that last one😂
When I was in college he was on tour. Got to see him. Great show. Still have the ticket stub. 1977 University of Oregon. He was really best known for his jazz guitar.
A guitar legend!
I'm such a fan of George Benson! Thanks for your reaction! Check out the live version sometime to watch him perform!! Another hit was Masquerade!
Smooth George Benson. ❤
I do believe that 'ol George is turning y'all ON....lmao.
He'll even do it on an acoustic guitar...
Hell Yeah Y'all
I was 24 years old and saw George in Concert. Fabulous! I’m now 70 and this song still stirs my soul with the same intensity as it did when I was that young man at that concert.
George Benson is sooooooo good. This album is legend.
6:20 literally one of my favorite parts of any song ever of all time. Like when that applause comes up over that funky outro, speaks to my soul in a way I can’t really describe
George did the song Greatest Love Of All for the movie The Greatest. That was long before Whitney did it.

Brings back memories of 1980 senior high school class night “All That Jazz Talent Show”😊
One of favorite musicians of all time! ❤🙌🏻
I love you guys...regarding his scatting, he's actually scatting the notes and cords he's playing on his guitar. He's a musical genius.
George benson is a monster he's singing with the guitar 🎸
He is scatting and playing the same notes on the guitar at the same time. Genious playing.
Genius
So much soul with a cool jazzy vibe!
My brother took me to see George in Vancouver when I was a kid, blew my mind!😁
George is a musicians, musician. Dude was and is next level. Jazzy and open. So much respect and those who played with him got a master class in fusion with a great deal of reality. Glad you listened to George Benson .... his songs were iconic back in the day
Absolutely Love some George Benson!! ❤ 🔥
Mr George Benson that man could scale that blessed voice and the Ibanez Together..
This Masquerade!!
His scatting on this song (and on the studio recording) is him singing along with the notes he's playing on his guitar.
Big rabbit hole here :)
George Benson is timeless and a badass singer and musician. His music is stunning; just amazing. Thanks for reacting to it.
No electronics not automation. Pure musician.
Great reaction guys! Ya'll have hit gold with George Benson!! Others have already recommended other songs by him and you won't be disappointed! This is a gem! My mom kept this on repeat. She'd stop cooking when that guitar solo hit. 😂😂😂
George Benson is a jazz musician, so he is trained in improvisation, so his scats are probably in the moment.
George Benson is one of the best musicians ever! The song I can listen to anytime anywhere any mood especially when I’m sad it picks me right up! Its called Lady and it’s my all time favorite song! When I’m dead I want my friends to play it and think of me!❤
George was the first Jazz guitarist to catch my attention. It was this song since it was a cover and he did an excellent job.
Give Me The Night and Turn Your Love Around are fire.
George Benson did a song for Nuyorican Soul called “You Can Do It (Baby)” and it’s an underrated gem. Not many lyrics but his voice in communion with his guitar playing, is like nothing you’ve heard. It’s an entire vibe.
I’ve seen him several times in concert. A consummate musician and a sensational entertainer. Always been one of my favorites.

George benson was a jazz singer and musician. That’s where the scatting comes from.
George is such a great guitar player he doesn't get the credit he deserves

George can PLAY that guitar....
Sung by the cookies in 1963, the drifters in 1963 and the coasters in 1972. Then George Benson in 1978 George benson just does such a wonderful cover that it’s easy to why anyone would think it was his own.
Another good George to check out is George Duke. Try “Reach Out”
❤He was so smooth. He sang Greatest Love Of All before Whitney did......his was great too. 🖤He is greatly missed.......no one is doing what he did and he was such a great guitarist.

Love George Benson❣️
I am enjoying watching you guys appreciate music from my youth. On one of your earlier videos, you play another song by George Benson and Asia remarked that his voice put her in the mind of Stevie Wonder. Listen to "This Masquerade "
"I just want to hang around", shows his R&B range. For years, I didn't know the same person made those 2 songs.
I remember the first song my Air Force classmates and I heard by George Benson was "This Masquerade" in 1976. We thought it was Stevie Wonder. The Drifters released "On Broadway" in 1964. George Benson released this live version in 1978.
Nobody does this song like George Benson!

Bob Fosse used this song in the opening audition number in his movie 'All That Jazz'. Another good one for your movie channel.
His “Weekend in L.A.” live album, which is where this song is from , is so good. I got it when I was in 7th or 8th grade. (I had eclectic tastes in music from early on. 😂)
A favorite song, for me.
Esta CANCION ES SENSACIONAL: ¿Quien se puede quedar sentado en un BAILE cuando comienza este tema musical?
Love George Benson!
Gimme the night, Greatest Love of all... Many other hits by the great George B...
The first time I heard him sing this (I believe he played guitar but didn't sing before this) the way his voice melded with the strings at one point I was mesmerized ❤❤❤ I also thought it was Stevie Wonder at first 😅
